One of my favorite filmmakers. I have returned to Lost In Translation countless times and always find something new to love about it. Thank you for this interview!
Criterion confirmed!! She's so down to earth and seems really easy to talk to! I haven't seen The Beguiled, yet, but I've been looking forward to seeing it.
Sofia Coppola always comes across as kinda vapid in interviews - I don't know if it's just shyness or what. But I love her first 3 movies a lot -- hate her last 3 movies!
This is a much better interview than a previous one she gave regarding this film. In that one I thought she came across as arrogant and dismissive of the previous version of the film.
It's funny that she talks about creating tension in the movie - fact is, she conjures up ZERO tension, and there's no sense of danger at any point in the movie. The movie is exquisite-looking for sure, but it's as bland as can be.
Thanks for that close-up of Sophia's left ear. Nice to see her finally relax in a casual conversation for a change. She seems so shy and nervous in most of her interviews
"And what do you have to say about the white washing accusations?" Well, like I said, the slaves were gone by then and the women were left by themselves. Sureeeeee sofia.
The Beguiled (1971) is a masterpiece - The Beguiled (2017) is crap! Clint Eastwood is great in The Beguiled - Colin Farrell is terrible in The Beguiled!
