I love this interviewer. He has a genuine interest in actors and what attracts them to roles. Actors seem very relaxed and happy to chat, zero pressure to sell their movie or give a soundbite. I always feel after having watched them that I understand a little better their viewpoints on their craft, the business and sometimes daily life. Kudos as always. Also Willem is a charming, enthusiastic artist. I love his work and clearly he loves his roles.

Willem is one of the most honest actors I've ever seen. Every thought and movement is completely absent of pretense. That's what makes him one of the greatest. Lying doesn't make you a great actor; the ability to honestly tap into and relate to the feelings of a character and all their experiences is what makes a great actor.

No pompousness but very real, love to hear him describe his process, that's the only thing I need to know for his films. Love it when Dafoe inadvertently puts the spotlight on the interviewer “ have you made films?” and the interviewer responds by fumbling through some bs about how he made short films as a kid. 😂 Not the same thing buddy. Stop with the pretentious questions about “ do you come to the film with your character fully formed?”..jeezus shut up already. Dafoe is one of the more articulate and intelligent actors there is when explaining “ craft” ...just let him talk and don’t waste his time with repetitive, reparaphrased questions. Some further advice to the interviewer...don’t lead with your questions..”did you like the movie?..were you surprised? ( before Dafoe even answered the first question)...and don’t assume with your questions and put parameters on your subject’s answers ( you do this a lot) e.g you ask the question “ Was working on this film difficult.( then say before they answer) “ I would imagine it must have been difficult” .. bad interviewing technique that 14 year old high school students would avoid. And don’t respond with” I like to keep my interviews informal maaann”..bullshit..even “casual “film chats with great artists should be prepared and thought out..DP30 is a great channel with excellent access to film artists but i would suggest you work on streamlining your questions concisely or get someone else to interview for you and you hold the camera since you’ve made ..ahem..”short films “when you were a toddler.
