calibration procedure for Differential Pressure Transmitter. How to do DP Transmitter Zero and Span Adjustment . This calibration video also shows square root calculation for DPT.

Testing and Calibration for DPT.
Step-1 Remove the DP transmitter from service before any calibration or checks can be performed.
In order to remove the DP transmitter from service,
1. Close the low pressure block valve first by turning the valve in clockwise direction.
2. Open the equalizing valve by turning the valve in counter clockwise direction.
3. Close the high pressure valve by turning the valve in clockwise direction.
Step-2 When DP Transmitter is out of service, remove the fitting from drain port of high pressure side. And connect one end of 1/4 inch pneumatic fitting to high port side of DP transmitter, and other end to pressure calibrator.
Sometimes, you may need 1/2 inch pneumatic fitting. So, it is advisable to keep entire set of
pneumatic fittings with you.
Now, remove the fittings from the drain port of low pressure side, and leave it open during entire calibration time.
In order to set the unit in pressure calibrator, press configuration button and then press down button until you see inch W C unit on the screen.
Select this unit and press ok button after this.
Step-3 Now, connect digital voltmeter in series with DPT.
Step-4 We need a range for DP transmitter.
Let's assume that, 0 to 100 Inches WC is the range for DP transmitter..
We also need is calibration table or chart.
In this example, we ignore square root extractor. This is a reason that, current output is not linear in this table.
First of all, we are going to check to see, If transmitter needs to be adjusted.
Here, we will apply desired pressure input values from the calibration table, and we will check the current output in digital volt meter.
First of all, check the analog current output in digital voltmeter, when there is no pressure applied to transmitter. In our case, it is zero percentage input or zero inches water column.
Current Output should be four milliamperes. If it is not four milliamperes, adjust zero until it becomes zero.
Now, apply hundred percentage input which is hundred inches water column pressure to the transmitter, and adjust span until it gives twenty milliamperes output.
Repeat the steps until adjustments are no longer required.
Step-5 After calibration, put the transmitter in a service by opening the Equalizing Valve first, then opening the High Pressure Block Valve second, and open the Low Pressure Block Valve.

Thanks you for your video But I think the sequence to back the transmitter to service it's first open the valves of process isolation and close the equalizer in the end to prevent sell damage Because the low side have atmosphere pressure and high side well have process pressure and it's high delta pressure can cause cell damage

Need to close the equalization valve Before pumping up. AND the pressure calibrator needs to be liquid...Air compresses. Nice video but left out a few things.

in my humble opinion the step for calibration is 1. open the equalizing valve 2.close together high and low block valve we need eqaulizing first, if we close the low or high block valve before equalizing valve then the transmitter will damage flow transmitter have Differential range maximum base on maufacture data sheet

Sir, how this arrangements comes practically possible. This is because LP and HP are kept close together. Since the equalizer is open, will not the air pressuse applied in HP go into the atmosphere through LP..?

Thanks for asking this question.. When we do calibration, both HP & LP Valve remains closed, and equalizing valve also remains closed. After this, open up LP vent valve, and apply pressure through HP vent valve.

Can u explain in details how the DCS do the calculation to get (from sqrt of mA to the flow rate in GPM). Why do we need the sqrt mA?

Hello I don't have calculation formula for DCS. Flow rate is directly proportional to square root of differential pressure. In order to convert, dpt' s output into linear, We use square root extractor in dpt.

Thanks for your great videos...but I thought the square root extractor function is in built in the flow transmitter, so why ignore the mA readings due to the square root extractor when calibrating? Can you please explain I'm a beginner

Thanks for asking. All SMART transmitter comes with function to select square root extractor. If you do not select square root extractor at transmitter side. Then you need to select at PLC or DCS side.

It depends on your range. For example, if your dpt's calibration range is 0 to 100 inch H2O. Then divide 100 inches H2O into 5 equal part, and apply the pressure according to it.
