Hey Don. I just wanted to thank you for your Basic Pilot training video. Because of the excellent prep work you did, I was able to pass yesterday on the first try. Great video Don. I am a strong supporter of the aviation radio part of RPAS flights. As live close to a seaplane base. A few of the pilots that I know and respect have commented to me that i should be announcing my presence over the air waves. And as always we thank you for being our advocate and keeping us in the loop on whats happing.

Hi Don, I have been flying drones for years but I cannot figure out the SFOC. Is it possible to show examples of REAL SFOCS sent in and accepted? I have been offered numerous jobs but all require SFOC's and times are tough, I could really use the work/money. Work at race tracks specifically has been requested many times. Or inside a restaurant. I cannot find anything useful or helpful about SFOCS anywhere online. No real world examples.

hey Don great content, quick question, am coming over to Canada from the Caribbean with my ddi mini 3pro, do I need to register my drone or do I need to get a license pr any of those?

Don, can you clarify pls or make a video, for advanced operations, flying over people. The drone must have a declaration or safety assurance (parachute) to allow that? And you may be closer than 5 m horizontally but to what point? Not over any part of a person? (Less than 5 m horizontally can become right over someone). What is the correct interpretation, in other words of : Operations between 100 ft (30 m) and 16.4 ft (5m) near people permitted (if a declaration of safety assurance has been provided by the manufacturer as per CAR 901.69) Operations less than 16.4 ft (5 m) horizontally over people permitted (if a declaration of safety assurance has been provided by the manufacturer as per CAR 901.69)

Good questions! In short, 'over people' is anywhere within an infinitely tall 'cylinder' 5m in radius measured horizontally from the bystander's location. 'Near people' is anywhere within a 'donut' starting at 5m and extending to 30m from the bystander. @@DonJoyce "Able to fly within 5 m of anyone" MEANS NOT CLOSER THAN 5 m. Is it correct, please? Not first language... They could reword this line so ESL people don't get confused. "Within" in other languages can be interpreted as inside that range or inside that envelope.

"Able to fly within 5m of anyone" means you CAN fly anywhere inside a circle of radius 5m from a bystander. Hey, these regulations are hard enough to understand when English is your first language!

@@DonJoyce Sorry Don, so with an advanced licence, one can fly let's say 4 m or 3 m over the bystander,Is that correct? Fundamental confusion is this: 30 to 5 m near people is permitted, then the second rule says less than 5 m over is also permitted. What is the min distance over, then? These rules imply that if you realize you can't avoid being near someone less than 5 m, it is safe to fly over that person? Based on logical inference I mean, it is not a good idea to be close by in any case, I understand that.

@@igorgoga7985I can see your confusion. The thing to realize is that the safety assurance spec for flying over people is much tougher than the spec for flying near people. I hope that helps!

hey Don! i finally got my advanced licence thank to you! but yes i have some questions about drones with agriculture. i’m wondering if Spray drones are useable in canada? specifically manitoba. i’ve seen several different arguments but nothing in stone. i’m looking into the dji agras but it would be horrible if im unable to do business with a 30k unit! hope to hear some fees back soon thanks!!

Since most agro drones are over 25kg, you'll need an SFOC to fly one at present. The new regulations coming later this year will make that easier without an SFOC. From a Transport Canada perspective, that should be the only issue. I can't speak to any regulations regarding chemicals being sprayed.
