That awkward moment when the doctor seemingly all celebrities go and buy from 1) is not even a board certified dermatologist 2) does not believe in using sunscreen 3) looks older than her age (47) 4) overcharges on the most basic ass product formulations Of course.
All The Artsy lol ... well from a business point of view it makes sense to listen to your customers ... and only a tiny portion of them will even know how hypocritical it is hahah ... over the past three decades I have used so many different brands ... from cheap drugstore stuff to way too expensive products. In times when no one cared about ingredient and now when people are way too obsessed and even militant about them hahah and I know one thing. Not even one promise was kept 100% but not caring about your skin at all and using dirt cheap products is the worst you can do :) ... find a nice balance of products that work for you and keep informed heheh ... and sometimes I go against the popular beliefs lol ... for one ... I love fragrant products ... either plant based or heck ... I might pick something synthetic lolol ... the aromas just add to the experience for me :)
What I learned from this video: -Do handstands. What I learned from comment section: -Dr. Sturm is only 47 years old. -Dr. Sturm does not believe in sunscreen. -Dr. Sturm is not even a dermatologist.
Jacqueline Sanchez have you been using these two brands? How are they? I’m thinking about purchasing them. Would you please share your experience? Thank you :)
actually she is not a md. She studied medicine and sports and has a doctorate (hence the misleading "doctor" in her name) in the field of orthopedics but she is not a medical doctor.
@@TrappedQue I don't think she's a con, she's a very brilliant woman who happens to have a very successful skincare line. I just think that putting "Dr." in all her skincare products is deceptive and misleading because most people automatically think she's a dermatologist when that isn't the case.
You would be very surprised how much knowledge a medical degree can give you. Its not a typical degree...While her products are overpriced, I trust she is knowledged.
She may has use it. It doesn't look like it but I'm pretty sure she did. I just bought a palette and I already use it 5 times but it doesn't look like it has been touched
@@imshooketh1500 "they're my friend" line is used so many times and in celebrity world,it doesn't mean shit. She's being paid by Anastasia and other "friends" to promote their products.Stop being naive.
Mrs.Indian Monroe If you can get prescription retin-A, get that instead. That has been tested and shown efficacious. Retinol is not really regulated and therefore you don’t know if it will work. Plus your skin needs to convert retinol several more steps before it can be used so some retinol in products aren’t even useable depending on their formulation. If you can’t get your hands on retin-A, then either choose a form that can be converted easier by your skin like the ordinary’s granactive retinoid. Or check out some recommendations by Gothamista.
GirlBetweenLight&Darkness 98 From Mixed Makeup. She reviews many of these Get Ready with Me videos and critiques them lol. They are super insightful and amusing actually
Dean Dodge there’s a product she sells where you have to send in your dna or something and then that dna is out into a skin product for you. It’s probably a gimmicky but makes celebs feel fancy.
Thought I’d share my two cents since I ACTUALLY BOUGHT HER WHOLE LINE OF PRODUCTS..... I live in LA and frequent Violet Grey aka the beauty store that sells only professionals in the industry “approved” products. I have purchased every skincare brand in that store and I can tell you Dr BS is the biggest con of 2018 when her line actually started to gain popularity. She is NOT a dermatologist rather a orthopedic doctor, who became popular after providing celebrities with their own plasma face creams (like PRP but in a take home form). She began a few years back inviting celebrities to parties like at the chateau Marmont and giving away her skincare set for free to them. She’s known them for years and I believe they support her because of that. Out of all the skincare products I have used high and low this is glorified water. Literally no difference in any of her products, I cannot find 1 person in real life who actually like her products and have found improvement. All my girl in the beauty industry who have so many clients have told me that many people have told them the same disappointment. I know I’m going to get hate since she’s so “loved” by the community but her whole line is a joke not even considering the price they’re just not effective. But go ahead and try for yourself for 30 days and then return that shit boo cuz it’s a joke. I used it when you couldn’t even return it so I actually spent over $1000 for it. You guys can ask me any questions about the products and my experience
Odain Watson so the sunscreen drops appealed the most initially to be since I am acne prone but I naturally tan with my olive complexion so putting the drops on my face was like “omg I’m finally using sunscreen” when in reality it was a few drops patted in my skin ....... RU-vid “sunscreen UV camera” which shows the effectiveness of different type of sunscreens when place on the face revealing how preventive it actually is..... this video put the perspective that her sunscreen drops will actually do more harm to people making them believe it’s enough but it’s not ....... ALSO Dr BS doesn’t personally believe in sunscreen so I think she just made this to satisfy the the community but created it in a way that it’s nonexistent on the skin
@@valduru9971 we are not saying that her products doesn't work. I'm sure it does, which is why so many ppl keep purchasing them. We are saying that, u can get something similar at a much lower price.
Nat Mansfield Which retinol did you use and what did you use with it? Retinol is one of those ingredients where you need to be careful with what you mix it with.
Pragya Praveen I agree that’s it’s totally wrong to judge someone’s appearance, but it’s not right that she’s saying that you shouldn’t wear sunscreen. It’s still insanely rude to make fun of someone’s appearance though.
Have you thought about what sunscreen is doing to the environment? Research shows certain sunscreens have ecological effects and therefore we should be mindful.
@@spsaunde then use the sunscreens that dont affect the environment. Mineral sunscreens arent that difficult to fine. And Australia still has sunscreen and has banned avobenzone
@@spsaunde that's only chemical sunscreens but even some newer chemicals filters are OK. Mineral sunscreen is completely safe for the environment and doesn't bleach coral reefs.
@@kissan4inen i know but i dont think we have to completely not using it, some ppl just demonize a product so much with their own opinions it has become the truth. I trust dermatologists like Dr Dray more
carmindi it’s really not just the haircut, her actual face looks older, but then there’s like an odd stiffness to her face, when she bends down look at her temples (not due to skin care) idk how to explain it but she does look older, especially around the mouth .
Her and Gwyneth Paltrow are some of THE oldest looking white ladies I’ve seen (for their age)... yet, they feel entitled to dish out beauty tips. I must laugh😅
*Barbara Sturm:* “My pharmaceutical grade lab-tested ingredients are high in price because they are high in quality. You get what you pay for.” *The Ordinary:* “Hold my beaker...” 😏
@O Comino Didn't know that! I mean youve got celebrities who know zero about skincare launching products left and right so its not that weird. I do think that branding your products with the "Dr." Part makes people think she's a dermatologist so it is misleading and sneaky imo.
O Comino to become an Orthopedic doctor you need to become a general md, and therefore as a general md you know a lot about skin. But not of course the amount of knowledge about skin as dermatologist, but all in all she is supposed to know a lot about skin but, she also probably saw more money in that field than in Orthopedic practice.
Yea, I'm also from Europe and Ive never seen or heard of anybody using her products here lol, only wealthy Americans. We have our own amazing, natural and vegan skincare and makeup brands with reasonable prices.
She's only 47??? With the amount of money and access to expensive products that she has, she looks so old! I'm shocked, I thought she was in her 50's or 60's.
Rachel Swan i think it’s partially her haircut aging her appearance, but my theory is also that it’s bc she doesn’t wear sunscreen as an environmental choice.
I think you can still look like that at 47 without her expensive af products, and I'm sure she also has access to more fancy spa treatments than the rest of us. Her forehead looks frozen though.
the thing is... she does not look 47. she looks 62. I'm not trying to be mean but the fact that half of the celebrities that come here always praise her over overpriced products annoys me.
Bobby Singh Yep. An oil based (no coconut oil) emulsifier, fragrance free gentle face cleanser, a good fragrance free moisturizer, tretinoin (Retin A), and a good sunscreen that you wear EVERYDAY is about all you need to stay looking younger.
When she explains what each product does she sound so knowledgeable, but when you really break down what she actually said, she doesn't really say anything of substance. She mentions a lot of ingredients, but never actually says the affect they have on the skin. They're just super important. "We've used the foaming cleanser to balance the pH, but now we're going to use a toner to also balance the pH and to protect you from bacteria because it lowers the pH and that's important because reasons." None of that makes any sense, but the woman sure knows how to make bank **cough*exploithollywoodvanity*cough** ;)
I was thinking the same thing.....especially when she started talking about the toner. Her skin didn't impress me either....we want to think if it costs 400 dollars that it will really work but so far it's only retinA that actually has proven results.
I was thinking that too! No wonder she looks older than her age.. (I mean I thought she was around 60 maybe but when I looked it up, she’s 47 as of 2019 😨)
@@HZ-fg9sf oh shit. My mother looked 37 when she was 47 and her "skincare routine" consisted of soap and water, followed by moisturiser and thats it. Pretty sure it's still the same now lmao. Just shows that aging is 80% genetics.
crusty bobusty Genetics + sunscreen, then followed by skincare. Sunscreen because without it, there is definitely premature aging. Have you seen the photo of the truck driver where one side of his face has been exposed for years to the sunlight coming in from the window? That side is so much more wrinkled than his other side.. Shocking really.
the last thing she said about sleep is the most important. You can spend hundreds on skincare but if you are not getting enough sleep your skin will age
Glad everyone is agreed that her products are completely overpriced. I’ll stick with more affordable options that are the same or better than her skincare
She appears to have started her brand with very clever marketing. Give your product out to a whole bunch of celebrities, slap on an extortionate price tag and tell them it's exclusive. Done.
Cleanser: $70 Enzyme cleanser: $75 Balancing toner: $75 Super anti aging serum: $350 Face cream: $205 Eye cream: $140 Lip balm $55 Body cream: $210 Sleep good: $70 You know what, I’m all about paying for good quality but thankfully there are other high quality products out there that are more affordable! 👏🏻
I *shrieked* when she glooped approx $90 of moisturiser onto her lashes like a savage devoid of eye makeup remover. Also she is NOT a Doctor, don't trust her credentials or the hype.
she is a „Doktor der Medizin“ ( doctor of medicine in German ). First worked as an orthopedics after her medical state examinations and then had continuing education in asthetical medicine. She is a doctor of medicine, licensed to treat patients and even send receipts to the health insurances.
But don‘t trust her anyways lol because she only wants to make money. But that‘s usually what doctors of medicine want to do after they changed industry haha
Why is she getting so much hate?? She looks like a hard working women with a delightful character, honestly people will always find ways to criticise others
Haadia Ahmed Shoaib because a) she’s an orthopedist who uses the name “Dr” as a marketing ploy so people think she’s a dermatologist b) her products are ridiculously overpriced for the ingredients and quality c) she doesn’t believe in using sunscreen which is ridiculous and probably why she looks older than her age
So, some things to keep in mind here...Dr Sturm is indeed an orthopedist, but her focus has been on how the body ages and how it prevents and treats inflammation. This is crucial if you are trying to figure out how she has gathered so much clout in the skin care industry. If you listen to a dermatologist such as Dr Dray, and listen to Dr Sturm, you will hear many similar things. Stopping inflammation is a major theme. Avoiding potential inflammatory products and situations whenever possible. And Dr Sturm is not anti-sunblock, not sure where people are getting that. She freely admits to not having applied sunblock in her younger years and paying for it now. Her products are over priced for the majority of us, so what? So are many things. I have taken away enough info from her to benefit my skin, especially when combined with knowledge I gained from other sources.
There's nothing in this universe that can justify the price of her products. She's a moving scam and she's not a dermatologist. Don't defend her. Just because she konws about inflamation does not mean she is anywhere near to the knowledge an actual dermatologist has. You can choose to buy or not (if that's even an option because most people just can't afford those products, you would have to be mid-upper class if not straight high class), and you can also speak your mind. This is not an opinion, these are facts
I got the information that she doesn't like sunscreen from Barbara herself. She was on Monika Blunder's channel and Monika asked her what she thinks about sunscreen and she said she's not a huge fan of it and she also said it's a chemical that destroys working ingredients in your skincare😢
She's just advertising for her friends. I enjoy gua Sha because it's relaxing. But that dumb butterfly rose quartz thing is a gimmick and shes just pulling her skin by not using any oil with it
I feel people are being quite harsh towards her. She hasn’t got terrible skin, she’s probably ageing naturally as we’re so used to seeing cosmetic surgery. Yes her products are very pricey but then so many people buy into and help other companies make money; Amazon for example or Nike etc. I’ve tried some of her products (travel size) and some of them are quite good. There’s a different quality than a £2 Superdrug face cream. So many people help corporate companies make money everyday so even when you’re criticising her you might be buying from Amazon and contributing further to Jeff Bozos becoming an even bigger billionaire whilst also complaining about it at the same time!!!
I don't know how for whom, but I personally am very satisfied and grateful for "The Ordinary" product 🥰 It helped amazingly and cleared up my skin. I'm definitely not going to buy and experiment with other unnecessarily high-priced useless products 🤗
I think her skin is actually leathery looking, as she clearly doesn't use an SPF. It's clear and smooth, but the quality of the skin, in terms of its integrity is low. These celebrity skincare pushers never prove their worth that much, it's better to be knowledgeable and use well engineered or pure products. Alot of K Beauty is engineered well, as is Japanese products. The Ordinary is AMAZING for the amateur chemist, just research and learn what skin means and that economically better and more useful. These hundreds of dollars people put into skincare is pointless most of the time. Women from other countries like the West Indies often have great skin, mostly because of melanin, but more for aqueous contact with water and fatty rich foods and clean foods. Nordic and Canadian women benefit from cooler climates, and African born skin benefit from natural clays. The world offers such great skin care these overpriced products are just luxuries. Learn your skin, the pollution in your city, your diet, your stress and your tolerances and go for it :)
Her Brightening Serum is honestly the best skincare product I’ve ever used. It’s expensive but it works so well. After a few days of using it my skin was so clear and it even reduced the dark circles under my eyes. Say what you want about her prices but she knows how to make a product!
To be fair, she learned the same med school curriculum as all other MDs/DOs, orthopedic surgeons are qualified to give advice re: care for surgical scars and skin at the site of surgery (eg: after surgery to repair a broken ankle) and honestly, she has access to knowledge from colleagues, medical journals etc. If someone like Hyram, with zero qualifications, literally, can give advice and make a skincare line, so can she.
My mum is 52 and looks younger than her...whatever she is doing, don't do it guys. That's the advice. Celebrities must be really dumb and looking for a way to spend money just anywhere.
Stop being mean people! Sometimes a persons facial features and structure can alter your appearance too. . And everything in the market has huge markups. . This is her way of making money.
Himali Ladha the people complaining about the markup don’t get that there’s this thing called “luxury brands”. Also, I do feel bad that people keep saying she looks older than her age. The way you look is not to say you can’t make n amazing product none the less.
I recommend watching Mixed Makeup review on celebrity skincare and then you will see where they go wrong. Even if they are celebrities, they don’t know everything or have everything right.
E L for sure just bc it’s a celebrity doesn’t mean it’s done right. But no need to pay this much for skincare anyway. There is so many better products for less. I don’t have the salary of a celebrity...for now 😏
Sara 4.0 Exactly. And yeah there’s definitely no need to pay that much to have good skin and skincare. Which is why I am flabbergasted that people buy her very average products and wonder if it is because they see celebrities use it.
Our skin has protective barriers that we wash off when we use cleanser. Not only is the acid mantle removed, but also the stratus corneum, the good bacteria, and the natural oils that moisturise and protect our skin are all removed. If you're so scared of some ambiguous 'dirt' or 'germs' gathering on your face then why would you wash off the protective layers? Our skin replaces cells and layers all the time, it cleans and rejuvenates itself. What people really need is a good lifestyle, with optimal sleep, a healthy diet and less stress.
Yall can keep hating and complaining but that face mask is the TRUTH, worth the price. Evened out my blotchy skin and cleared blackheads in a week. I use it daily.
before watching this, i read the comments section and wasnt expect that her video is so normal (almost entire comments are negative about herl. She knew about skincare and didnt messed up the order of skincare (+ she didnt put on essential oil on her face). I never checked her skincare line tho, maybe that wasnt the best, but i had a glimpse about her hard works on this video. So I guess it's normal that she wanted her products to had good sales. That's how she survive guys, dont be so salty 😂
So this whole video is all about product promotions. I've noticed in the Anastasia's skin care video she was promoting dr. Sturms products...its funny that dr. Sturm promote ABH eyeshadow at the beginning as well.
