The fourth presenter was Dr. David Vaughan from Plant a Million Corals who introduced the science behind coral micro-fragmentation techniques and why they have been so successful for coral restoration. Small coral fragments can grow faster and produce hundreds of pieces in just a few months, while in the wild, most cases of similar growth would take years. For this reason, Plant a Million Corals’ approach has been so successful at restoring coral health in places like the Mesoamerican Reef system. Through the micro fragmentation techniques, it is possible to bring large corals and entire ecosystems back to life in a shorter time frame, allowing us to deal with the urgent changes in coral reef populations around the world.
