Dr. Fink is one of the only people to co-write with Prince on records....Dirty mind was Unbelievable...... and the solo that he laid on Head, remains one of the most fiery and uplifting synthesizer solos of all times! Thank you so very much for the history you helped to create as a performer and writer Mr. Matthew Fink! ...........I remain bedazzled.

I empathize with Prince. Getting older and dealing with chronic pain is no joke. He also had problems sleeping. That combination alone is enough to push one to self medicate. I think it's amazing he went his whole life without succumbing to alcohol and drugs. And I certainly do not judge him for making the choices he made towards the end. I can't imagine the fear and anxiety he felt as a person who was trying to stay revelant by his own standards. I am grateful to him and everyone who worked with him to create incredible music. Thanks for this authentic interview.

@alfredliggins8510 I am so sorry to hear of your struggles. Chronic pain robs a person of their joy, or it at least makes you fight harder to stay on the sunny side of things. I sincerely hope you can get reprieve and quickly. It takes a lot of courage to make yourself vulnerable by letting people know what's going on. I have some new limitations and minor pain on a daily basis, and that alone freaks me out. I can't imagine what you're going through. Best of luck. It's easy for people to be judging without understanding the full picture.

1:06:24 oh that day.... that terrible day. I tried to check the org for any news, and it was down... and then I checked the news, and they were saying someone had died. I was sure it was him.... when it was confirmed, I did something I had NEVER done. I went home early sick! I had missed maybe 5 days being personally sick! (I don't get sick). I was just sick... the next day many people had on Purple shirts or Prince stuff and a lady got mad at me...I was really in morning... she called me out for not respecting him.... I looked at her and said "don't, you have no idea how deeply saddened I am over his loss... you know Purple Rain and a few hits....I know neatly everything he ever put out and many more he didn't.... my heart is purple and it is broken."

@lauraveney1412 We know why he did it, that's not the point. It's the effect it had. Other artists recognised it was bad PR to stop people downloading mp3s and posting videos after Metallica's stand against the former. It really hurt them for a long period. Lots of their fans turned against them. Branding them super greedy and just wanting to sit back and earn money on past productivity in perpetuity. Prince didn't learn this lesson. He took down nearly everything anyone else posted. His cotrol freakery harmed him in terms of exposure. Thank god fans started "stealing" free music online because it stopped artists from being lazy and relying on royalties. It made them start playing live again and be productive for a living like the rest of us.

I wanted to learn prince songs on guitar in my early twenties. Prince kept his music off of sites till he died. I can play by ear now, so i have no probs, but any young musician who looked for his music was basically discouraged till the day he died. He may have been fighting labels and corporations, but he also turned his back on fans who didnt have the money to pay for his music. In case of curiosity, i said "F*** it" and learned Thin Lizzy instead 🤘🏼

The incident at the Coliseum is an interesting one. Couple that with the killing of a black man at another Stones concert in California years prior. It astounds me how some Caucasians love the Rolling Stones music so passionately yet seem ignorant to how the Stones learned music and the musicians that influenced them. The Stones themselves openly have given credit of their existence and style to the blues music by African American musicians of years ago.

I really appreciate Drew stopping the interview after that story to make a point of saying to us, the audience what shouldn't need to be said, but must be repeated: intolerance in any form is unacceptable, but to disrespect and judge a performer also costs you the listener, too. Think of the history-making performances the whole audience lost out on hearing during that tour. I had friends who saw Prince at a club in Boston on the Controversy tour. They didn't know him and it blew their minds. They still talk about it.

Thank you so much for the inspiring music. You're the only musician PRN kept around, a wise decision I am forever grateful for. When people think of the 'Minneapolis Sound' they think of PRN mostly. But in reality most all of the baddest and funkiest sounds came from you, Dr. Fink. Two questions I have: 1. Did you program your own patches? 2. Was that you on the Lipps Inc single Funkytown?

To the interviewer - what Prince experienced with the Rolling Stones was unfortunately the way it was back then...truth be told...it took me a while (circa 1982) to understand what Prince was in terms of an artist...but I would eventually understand his work and ultimately become an avid fan / follower of Prince...and have the opportunity to share a stage with him. The silver lining is that experience undoubtedly contributed to what he would evolve to up to his passing. What Prince accomplished as a musician will stand the test of time - my opinion - he is the Mozart of our time...

Loved hearing about Princes early days and was suprised by his struggle by the LA crowd. Prince isn't my number 1 favorite as his style is different than mine, yet I see his genius as both Prince and Michael Jackson were the greatest performers that ever lived. (Neither are my personal style match), but I do appreciate and enjoy their work. I'm floored by what these men could do. It's important to leave biases' at the door.

Dr. fink seems like a cool lowkey guy. 💜It would been nice to see a clip of him playing the synthesizer at the end.

17:47 I was at the second show and I was scared for Prince and the whole band. Prince was dodging bottles but the drummer can't move much. My feeling is that the Stones shows in California always attracted Hell's Angels. They were NOT selling bottled beer in the stadium so when I saw bottles being thrown by people right in front of stage I instantly thought 'Hell's Angeles' because they would be among the ones who could get bottles in AND they would be right in front of the stage. They opened with "Bambi" then played "When You Were Mine" and they were throwing all kinds of stuff. Bill Graham came out and they flipped him off and he had some security guys pull a couple guys right over the barricades in front. Graham says "Prince is going to come back out. He is going to finish this set. If you don;t want to see it then this is a good time to go get a beer." The band comes back out and Prince goes into "Jack U Off" and he looked like he was pissed. Like he played with attitude. Like a gladiator. People were still throwing stuff. They got to "Uptown" and I thought somebody in the band got hit during that and they just stopped. L.A. rocks crowds in that era (including the GNR shows ~1987) were jerks. Enough bad drunks mixed into the crowd to put everyone on edge. Prince went on first so people had come to the show already drunk (because they weren't going to buy drinks at stadium prices) and they have a lot of energy still. He was perceived as gay or bi in a very overt way and that was definitely part of the reaction. I didn't get to see him again until Jones Beach in 1997. Outrageously good! He arrived to the stage by boat. Played every great song in his arsenal. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. And then he went into Manhattan and played surprise show in some club. www.setlist.fm/setlist/prince/1997/jones-beach-theater-wantagh-ny-3bdc0444.html

The Rolling Stones are my favorite band. As a 11th grader, I was so excited that Prince was one of the opening acts at the LA Coliseum shows. I had the fortune to have seen Prince March 31st of that year, and told everyone how great he was as a performer and guitarist. "Just wait til you hear him, its heavier than the records..."...My only small worry was that he would have to tweak his stage clothes. To "defend" Prince- He came out that Friday night Oct 9 as hoped, pants intact, with a roaring rendition of, yes!, "Bambi" ! There was hope a rocking set would win over the crowd and allow my friends to see what I liked about Prince. There were only a few bad apples who stared the problems- Biker types...Going to "Jack U Off" was a mistep. "Why you Wanna Treat me So bad" would have been better. The band did a commendable job holding it down amongst the growing chaos all set, but that song lit the fuse in the mob mentality that occurred. Sadly, the word spread like wild fire and the band had no chance on Sunday Oct 11th. As we see in recent years, people "sheeople" are motivated to join chaos of a few undesirables and engage in "Mob Mentality", acts of uninformed hate and destruction they never would engage in on their own. People came to laugh, act stupid and try to be part of something. Some may have been motivated to unrelated to Prince, latent disco backlash......I never needed that validation for my fandom for Prince's music, but I got a bit later on. many types who joined in on the booing after the initial problems surely danced to "1999" and fondly remember the "Purple Rain" 1984-85 tour to this day.
