SMILE with Astigmatism was just approved by the FDA! Eyewire.tv recently conducted an interview with Dr. Rex Hamilton to get his take on what the implications are for patients!

Hi Doctor. Is one now able to have SMILE procedure for only astigmatism correction? I have Plano sphere and am only looking to correct my astigmatism which is -2.50 on a 10 axis. The surgeon here in Charleston SC, where I live, wants to correct it with PRK. However SMILE sounds more appealing to me considering it's less invasive and there's less likelihood of longterm dry eye than PRK, as well as faster healing time than PRK. I'm not interested in Lasik because of the risk of flap fragility later on, as I am pretty physically active. Can I now have SMILE for correction of astigmatism only? Thanks

Yes you would. A better option for you might be a Refractive Lens Exchange which you could read about on my website rexhamiltonmd.com
