This is the problem with people like Huberman or Neil deGrasse Tyson for example. They often go out of their field of expertise or don't do enough research on a topic and make false statements with a lot of confidence.
the issue is that Finasteride turns testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT can cause your prostate to grow bigger. meaning now we have higher chances of getting prostate cancer right ?
@@ko-Daegu I am not a Doctor, or spokesperson for Finasteride. My comment was on the Topic of people like Huberman possibly spreading misinformation. So i'm not quite sure why you address me with something related to the chemical process of Finasteride. I don't know anything about that or DHT. What i can tell you (not as a Doctor, like i said) is that your Prostate grows due to aging anyway and many Men have problems with that, such as decreased libido or problems urinating. Which is definitely not a process you want to possibly speed up with medication. But as far as i know (and a quick google search proofed me right) there are no studies that show that an enlarged prostate increases cancer risk.
I definitely lost my hair slower when using minoxidil than without. Minoxidil increases how long each hair's lifecycle is. The slower they fall out, the slower you get to a point where they no longer get replaced. The slower you get to them being slightly thinner each generation. It doesn't attack the root cause, but it does slow progression and even add hair follicles back. ESPECIALLY if combined with microneedling. Microneedling 1x per week+daily minoxidil was something like 3x more effective in a clinical study. I've seen the pics, and it was a BIG difference subjectively. 3 months each, but the microneedling group looked at least 6 months ahead in results, based on how the 3 month minoxidil only looked. Dermastamps are better than rollers because you get puncture wounds perpendicular to the skin every time and not at angles. The roller can make scar tissue form easier, which is not the goal.
Minoxidil empirically reduced hair fall dramatically in shower. I suspected i was suffering with telegen effluvium as fallen hairs where all mature and hairloss was very diffuse rather than typical mpb. I already suffer from a prolactinoma so don't want to mess with hormones with finasteride and give myself (worse gyno)
That's the thing, minoxidil is great for any hair loss not caused by AGA/MPB. It's also worth noting that increasing blood flow to the scalp with other substances or tools is shown to flush DHT, though of course finasteride's potency in curlbing DHT is unchallenged by anything else.
@@mattia1026 Finasteride and Dutasteride are our only known solutions for curbing hair loss long term. Some people don’t want to hear this, but rubbing essential oils onto your scalp because “finasteride is poison”, isn’t going to make you keep your hair for any significant length of time.
@@monkeymoment6478 If you have early signs of MPB, go for it. Not all forms of hairloss are MPB though, there's Telogen Effluvium, traction alopecia, scarring alopecia, or just natural hair thinning with age. Given that only around 30% of men will have experienced some form of hair loss by their 30s and not all hair loss is caused by MPB, starting by fixing everything else (nutritional deficiencies, exercise, sleep, hormonal levels, overall health) is the first step, then topicals, then meds like minoxidil, and after that finasteride. Also, most people should start on a much lower finasteride dose than currently recommended and gradually up the dose to minimise side effects (we all know them and want to avoid them, don't we?). Additionally, it's best to start on finasteride with medical assistance to monitor the effects on your physiology.
@@monkeymoment6478 If you're already exercising daily, eating right, getting sun, keeping stress levels low micro needling and using minoxidil and you're still shedding like a dog then sure, but for most people doing everything above will help you keep your hair for years without having to disrupt your hormones and grow boobs with finasteride
With finasteride, it's still a life-long treatment, and while minoxidil's potential side effects are rare, reversible and pretty mild, finasteride is a different thing. It's a hormone blocker, it can mess some stuff up in your body. Impotency, decreased sex drive, infertility, gynecomastia, as well as depression, brain fog, suicidal thoughts, panic attacs are some of its side effects. They are quite rare, but severe and can be irreversible. I'd rather go bald...
I came here to say this! I highly HIGHLY discourage the use of this medication. Although I’m not “qualified” to say this as I am not a physician…I lived with a man who did take it and not only did it alter his personality (made him MEAN) it messed with his hormones, caused problems with his sexual health and made him extremely depressed. Just no!!
Bingo. It's a "libido russian roulette", you might can say goodbye to your sexdrive forever. Or if not, general brainfog because it messes with testosterone which is a main hormine for males in terms of mood and mind clearness. Don't fuck around people with your hormones with meds.
I’m using minoxidil topically 5% . Roughly two weeks in, shedding is minor and I look forward to see where my hairline is in 4-6 months. I chose not to take oral medication as my mental health hasn’t been so stable in the past and have sensitivity to a lot of medications.
A friend started with just pumpkin seed oil and is seeing some of his hair growing back in bold spots, he's been using it for 4 months now, 2ml liquid in form. You should add that to your routine, pumpkin seed oil has DHT blocking effects, so topical minoxidil will help increase blood flow to the scalp with pumpkin seed oil providing the DHT blocker. Keep the routine going for at least 8-10 months and keep photos to your monthly progress
"Changes the dynamic between vellus and terminal hair" means that it can cause vellus hairs (the fine, short hairs that cover most of the body) to grow into terminal hairs (the thicker, longer hairs that grow on the scalp, eyebrows, and other areas).
Have heard of a few people who suffered from Post Finasteride syndrome. Worth looking into before you start taking this. It’s been awful for the guys I know who have suffered from this condition. Proceed with caution.
@@strangerthings88 absolutely! Google please. Basically loss of sexual function in males, brain fog, depression as a result of taking finasteride for 1.5 years. Once you stop the drug, the issues don’t go away immediately and for some I’ve read about they don’t ever resolve.
@@lisatodd6607its not true at all. It has been proved that Post finasteride syndrome is not real. If you have side effects from finasteride is due to hormonal imbalances such as having high estrogen, prolactin.
Typically what minoxidil does from a practical stand point is it will give you a few more hairs than you had before. So if you’re thinning, this will definitely help. You will NEVER grow a significant amount of hair from minoxidil.
The guy in the video is a literal hair transplant surgeon. Get your pseudoscience out of here. Side effect profile is less than 2 percent chance of happening
@@flightevolution8132 I have done my research, and the research shows that it can cause problems. Obv not in everyone, maybe only 1 in 10, but still it's important to note
Minox gave me horrible heart palpitations using it 2x a day (Kirkland foam). Ended up in the ER actually and had no prior heart issues. Also caused panic attacks that took months to subside. Never experienced any of these things prior to minox use and found others online have had the same occur. Be careful
No, but they aren't really substitutes. Dutasteride and Fenasteride deal with one problem and Minoxidil, the other. It is likely most effective if you use Dutasteride and Minoxidil. Assuming you understand the side effects of Dutasteride and Fenasteride.
Seriously, who would want hair, healthier arteries and skin, stopping prostate enlargement and cancer, increased healing, and decreased chance of dying from illnesses? Sounds terrible
There's a spray I have from europe called skrzypovita, it says it increases atp production, I don't have hair loss per se but my hair did thin out a few years back and since using it intermittently on and off for a few years and I noticed my hair actually has improved. If u ever see this I wonder what ur opinion would be on it
Side effects of Finasteride (not "Finestride"): Common side effects include sexual dysfunction, such as reduced libido, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculatory disorders. Some men also experience breast tenderness or enlargement. These side effects are generally reversible upon discontinuation of the medication. No thanks.
It's simple, you must take finasteride should you really want to stop your hair loss. For those fearmongering in the comments, there's a minimal chance of getting a completely reversible side effect. The majority of patients will see that finasteride is the way to go currently.
@@nikhilbhat402no it doesn’t, ~3% of men may experience some mild side effects but serious side effects like impotency are even more rare. So stop talking bullshit
It CAN cause sexual problems, that is very rare however and can in many instances be mitigated by titration. Your impotence could just as likely have been caused the nocebo effect, because you went into thinking the worst thoughts and stressing out.@@nikhilbhat402
I use Rogaine and have the best way to apply - through trial and error - buy a metal demitasse cup and saucer and keep t in the freezer. When you take it out to apply the Minoxidil, put the plastic can cap inside the cup. When you spray the foam, it will blow up higher in the cap and you will find the very last of the foam will be as firm as the first. Easy and 100 percent of the time, the foam will stay firm and if you're like me, you'll use less to cover your target areas.
@@jeefojan the most common is sexual side effects but it can also cause serious psychological symptoms in rare cases. Look up Post Finasteride Syndrome.
@@jeefojan really low libido . Had really high sex drive before. and after weeks of being off it , it has finally come back. Also really bad depression and anxiety as well as making me generally emotional/sensitive . Been fine with just minoxidil
It would really be beneficial if you gave both the Pros and Cons of a drug. Without literally just rulling out the other without giving the public a clear reason as to why
I’m going to start taking topical min this week. I won’t touch fin with a ten foot pole. I’m 27 now, if min will get me to 40 with hair I can die happy.
If you have scalp tension, fix that before taking anything. 90% of hair problems are from this. Doctors won’t tell you because they want you on drugs forever.
Finestride has side effects of low libido, ed and low sperm count. Minoxidil without finestride + healthy diet + healthy gut+head massage regularly Will help you for sure.
Minoxidil only works on like half the hair loss population. I would know, I tried it WITH dermarolling when I was 25 and dealing with early onset hair loss and it didn’t help at all. I even went up to a high strength customized prescription of minixidil and still couldn’t stop the hair loss. I avoided propecia because of the negative side effects.
So you shot yourself in the foot over make believe side effects made up by people who are too afraid to take a 1mg tablet and too dumb to read any literature on the drug?
I eat around 15 raw eggs a week. If I skip it, I start shedding hair like crazy. When I’m good about it, I only get a couple strands out when I comb out my hair in the shower. I’ve been doing it for 2 years now.
idk why, but Andrew Huberman saying “so-called” before everything really pisses me off. He frequently says “so-called” before literally saying THE ESTABLISHED NAME for a scientific concept, referring to it as if it were just some colloquialism.
I recently started taking minoxidil for my hereditary hair loss. I find the side effects bearable. However, I wouldn't use Finsterid, the side effects are too extreme for me. I believe that you can achieve a lot by changing your diet. because the human body is also a natural product. Foods like green tea, coconut oil, amla powder, pumpkin seed oil naturally block dht or ensure a proper balance of dht hormones. It's better to take the route that takes a little longer than to have any side effects in the purchase that could perhaps be permanent.
I find Huberman to be incredibly annoying whenever I see his videos pop up. There have been several instances where he posts a video on a topic he has little to no expertise in and just blurts out random information with a confident face and people eat it up.
My hair began shedding significantly after an extremely stressful time I went through. Consequently, I researched the internet & opted to experiment with the litttleextra coocoonion hair oil and a comb made of neem wood. The results truly worked. Now, I have long, thick, black hair that has reached my waist and cut off three times since I started. Easy & effective. Also, equally good is massaging your scalp - it stimulates the growth. You only need to do this weekly. Before long, you will see new hair starting to grow.
Bought the Cocooonion shampoo for dealing with hair fall and dandruff problems. My scalp used to feel uncomfortable and dry and flaky. I was annoyed due to the dandruff. After a lot of research, I eventually decided to give it out. After the first couple of washes, I observed my hair felt more manageable and my scalp was more comfortable. Typically shampoo two times a week and in two days, the dandruff would reappear. Yet after using this shampoo, this didn’t happen. I decided to continue using this shampoo and see the results. It has been close to half a year since I started and my dandruff problem is resolved. Almost no hair fall whatsoever. I’m pleased with the decision to take this choice and adhered to the routine. In summary, it’s an excellent product.
@trentwalker9223Almost like they aren’t sub 80 IQ and noticed most women don’t have pattern hair loss so it has to be something androgenic, and it also doesn’t happen to all men, so it has to be genetic… hence “androgenetic alopecia”
@trentwalker9223you implied that it’s some obscure vitamin thing, which is the case for a very small percentage of people, but that doesn’t cause genetic pattern hair loss and this is obvious because you never see women with Norwood 3s, meaning that logically this has to be caused by the differences between the sexes. We know how this whole thing works already
They are both very different and no replacement for each other. Finasteride is a DHT blocker, which is the hormone that causes your hair loss. It doesn't help regrowth in the sense that it promotes it, it helps it in the sense that it partially or fully stops your hair loss and allows hair growth to overtake hair loss. Minoxidil on the other hand promotes hair growth. It has no effect on your DHT levels, it does not reduce your hair loss, but allows for more and stronger hair to growth. In combination with microneedling maybe even reactivate follicles that were dysfunctional and "revive" them. Minoxidil in its topical form is very mild on side effects and even in its topical form its side effects are not as severe as Finasteride's. But again, you cannot replace Finasteride with Minoxidil. They do entirely different things. Ask your dermatologist about the aggression of your hair loss.
There’s a reason why the body has evolved to to turn testosterone into DHT. There will obviously be effects on normal male function if that process is messed around with
What about for beard growth? Ive heard that if you take it long enough then the beard hairs will become terminal and then you wont have to keep taking it(minox) but i dont know how true that is Edit - okay so there's a video of a doctor saying why you shouldn't take it for beard growth and there are multiple comments saying that they took it for a couple of years, got a full beard, and stopped applying it and still kept the beard. That video I'm talking about is by "Dr. Dray"
Minoxidil is applied locally only so it makes no difference to your system. If you take Minoxidil pills you're an idiot. This will cause all kinds of side effects for no additional benefits.
No, it’s really bad for having hair, elasticity of your arteries, slowing skin aging, stopping enlarged prostates and prostate cancers, improving cognitive health, healing faster, lowering inflammation, and decreasing chances of dying from illnesses.
Isn't blocking DHT with Finasteride essentially chemically castrating yourself as a man. DHT molucules are like testosterone on steroids. Is hair really that great anyway
But they didnt create finestride for women to take. I am tired of Many of these products were really created for men as if women dont have hair loss issues. It's more accepted for men to lose their hair than women who are shamed and mocked for it
Does Minoxidil only work for people who going through a hard time that make them losing hair and not because of genetics ? Both my parents have kind of thin hair and at 30yo I started to lose hair, will using Minoxidil prevent it or slow down the rate ?
what about using for beard hair growth? ive seen a bunch of videos of people using minoxidil and they grew terminal hairs. So does this mean if you cut terminal facial hair that was grown using minoxidil, it will not grow back?
i’ve been loosing my hair for a while, started minoxidil and every time i use it i have weird sensations on my body and in my chest and head, my heart rate also goes up by a little i think and i can’t really think straight, should i be worried?
I think finasteride is a good drug, but you’re only 17, so it’s a little difficult to say. Minoxidil will hold you over until you’re 18 or older, but make sure you’re done with puberty first. Finasteride is safe but DHT is a little important during puberty, afterwards it is fine and beneficial to inhibit it
the issue is that Finasteride turns testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT can cause your prostate to grow bigger. meaning now we have higher chances of getting prostate cancer right ?
this is incorrect. It stops a certain amount of testosterone to be converted into DHT. I dont know how you got that information because DHT is litterally the hormone that kills your hair.
why are you commenting this same bullshit comment everywhere? You’re as wrong as you can be. Finasteride inhibits (blocks) the enzyme converting testosterone to DHT, which means you get more free testosterone and less DHT. Since DHT causes hairs to become smaller vellus hairs and then the follicles to die a decrease in DHT prevents this and leads to regrowth. Please stop spreading misinformation.
Im using minoxidil 10% as per my doctor suggestions my hairline slightly receding and im wanted the hair regrowth i am facing seborrheic dermatitis fir years since childhood starting to know its a gut problem im doing good anyone give me some advise
