One of John Barrymore's best performances. He played Edward Hyde like he was possessed. He played Dr. Henry Jekyll with the best of curiosity and vulnerability.

Nita Naldi's performance here is so natural and 'modern' by comparison to the overwrought histrionics displayed by some of her contemporaries.

Within all of us is a Jekyll and Hyde harboring in our nature...it is our will and choice of how we manifest it... classic film that is peerless in its own right.🎥🎬

I know it's been said many times, but John Barrymore was beautiful before alcohol and drugs. Another sad decline and death.

Beautiful film adaptation! For 1920, the acting and make-up is stunning. Hyde's prostethic fingers are very scary. John Barrymore is a wonderful actor. He shows Dr. Jekyll's fear, vulnerability, suffering in a mysterious and fragile way. Hyde is portrayed in a nasty and frightening manner. I read he didn't even use a lot of make-up to play Hyde. Everything is thanks to his expressions and posture-change. High-class acting! The scene where Jekyll foams at the mouth and transforms into Hyde in front of Carew is way ahead of its time. Thanks for uploading this movie! This is highly recommended for Jekyll and Hyde fans.

John Barrymore, as incredible as this may sound, used no make-up at all to play Hyde. His characterization was purely based on facial contortions and exaggerated maniacal gestures. It it hadn't been Barrymore, the role would probably have been for Lon Chaney.

I’m guessing the men don’t tell Jekyll’s fiancé that he IS Mr. Hyde to spare her of her sanity and to keep her from killing herself potentially.

Well, I've never seen this version before. I've actually never seen any of them before, but this is quite interesting. I'm wondering actually if I could have read lips there. If they actually said what was on the screen? A lot of times you would see them. Talk, I'd like that. He called it the human body shop. That's what he called. His clinic, I mean, that was a trip that they came up with that. That far back that would not have made it nowadays, but to come app with something by that name and that time error and they allowed it that that was bizarre. If you've never seen it I would say check it out. I'll give it a 13 out of 13 skulls and say for the time period piece. You should check it out. I'm actually seeing. All of them with this title, every year that I canfine to see how the different movies relate was one another and how the different time periods relate with 1 another.

After reading the book it was obvious his baser instincts referred to his homosexuality where Jekyll was repulsed by it and Hyde embraced it .

While the film itself is excellent, the musical accompaniment is worthless. If you want to see how music should be set to silent cinema, view the BFI release of Nosferatu. It was scored by the gentlemen who wrote the music for Hammer films in the 50s. When Noferatus coach arrives to collect Hutter, the music is inspired.
