Dr. John, also known as Dr. John the Night Tripper, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1941. He was known for his unique blend of blues, jazz, and rock and roll, as well as his colorful stage persona and distinctive New Orleans accent.
Dr. John began his career in the 1950s, playing piano and guitar with various New Orleans R&B and rock and roll bands. He released his debut album, "Gris-Gris," in 1968, which showcased his eclectic musical style and introduced his persona as Dr. John the Night Tripper. The album was a critical and commercial success, and established Dr. John as a unique and innovative force in the music industry.
Throughout his career, Dr. John continued to release albums and collaborate with other musicians. He was known for his soulful vocals and intricate piano playing, as well as his incorporation of New Orleans' rich musical heritage into his music. Some of his most well-known songs include "Right Place, Wrong Time," "Iko Iko," and "Such a Night."
Dr. John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 and received numerous other awards and honors throughout his career. He passed away in 2019, but his legacy as a groundbreaking musician and representative of New Orleans music lives on.

i saw dr. john late in his life at bonnaroo, but it was still a r&b clinic and every bit as tight (and loose haha) as this.

Yeah he stole the show @ super jam @ bonnaroo 2003 I believe….voodoo was in the air with out a question …very heavy vibes from the Dr.
