Clapton has a natural ability to flow intuitively with just about any song. Something that I think earns him a place on the all time greatest guitarists list.
Clapton is throwing off the timing most of the time. Instead of laying back on to the 2, he is phrasing off the 1, which is completely the wrong feel for this music. And then he plays thru the the end of the measure and spills into the next. Clumsy, but then he was never known for being deft or funky. On the other hand, this song doesnt lend itself to constant guitar fills and IDK, something with the drums. Its not fast, but it sounds rushed.
I am so glad I was born in the 50's! I remember all these Rock/Funk/Jazz/Blues Legends! I saw these two awesome Men in concert back in 1970! They still can make awesome Blues Music together! Love them both. Dr. John & Eric Clapton!
Can't imagine what it's like to be the guy who writes the song a guy like Eric Clapton wants to play along with. Just discovering Dr John today and I'm going out to get his music ASAP.
His talent & charisma fills out that Big Black Suit like David Byrne's magically inhabits his Big [White] Suit! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-av3j4WStj2A.html Cheers!
rumor has it he was a pimp at some point. he was playing the guitar at the time, but then got his finger shot of in a shootout with the cops. So now he is doctor john
Dr. J, your music never gets old. From the days of the Night Trippers till now you still are tooo funky for us mortals. That song is never in the wrong place and its always at the right time!
This is beautiful I like Dr john I always love this song came out in the late 70 I was a teenager WOW you don't out grow good music and talented singer like my Eric clapton and Dr John💜😍❤️💙
Clapton has lived quite the life, most of it full of loss and pain. Catch the documentary “Life in 12 bars”. Music has kept him alive. Dr. John is simply a legend. I’ve loved this song since the 70s.
This song came back to me out of nowhere and I found this gem. I been in the right place! Only thing missing is Buddy Miles thumping a double base kit with that bass.
This is a great groove and musicianship and a completely different feel from the original . I like the original version better but, I can appreciate the groove that they lay down here.
Thanks for the clarification...I didn't look it up...but I guess I remembered the song so well because 1973 would have been my high school years. I did, however recall Dr. John as a sixties performer...and a lot of the sixties people around me regard him quite highly. A gift to us all...whatever the decade.
When this song came out it, I went crazy for it ... it just had something that always created a bouncy rhythm, even if you were 20 feet from where it was playin' you'd find yourself bouncing around to it.
