My wife is from the Philippines. I would have never believed this if not for her. When she wants to lose weight, she eats nothing but rice and pineapple for a week or two. She loses weight and still feels great. My oldest daughter in the U.S. almost died from doing Keto. I tried it too, and my heart rate went through the roof, and I couldn't sleep. My wife and I retired to the Philippines, I went on the rice diet, and I dropped from 213 lbs to 170 lbs in 6 months.

@@heatherjones4267 I don't think there's a recipe. Just boiled white rice (no added fat/oils) and pineapple. Of course, it was measured to determine the calories, but I don't think it was something secret of magical.

I think one reason many people don't put forth the effort to change is that they don't really believe that their efforts will yield results. I think convincing people that a change in their behavior will yield the desirable results they want is key to generating the motivation required to make real change. Too many people are held back by a fear of failure and a fear that their efforts will be ineffective -- often fueled by past experiences of failure.

SIDE NOTE. I started eating spinach and my hair grew back 4 years ago.I was down to 1/2 of a widow peak. I thought it was a fluke but a woman told me last night that I had told her about spinach and her hair grew back also. Dr. McDougall saved me from the Paleo Wheat Belly Diet in 2013. He had Paleo in the title. At first I was mad and I watched the show. I watched it again and it made so much sense to eat starch and ditch the meat. Dr. McDougall I owe my health to you. Always appreciate you.

Dr. Kempner's story is one of my favorite anecdotes to share with people when I speak with them about nutrition. I recently read a book written by one of his patients called "Fat Like Us." The author interviewed dozens of Rice Diet patients whose stories are in the book. Fascinating stuff but I was left feeling sad for the patients because they didn't come away from the program with a sustainable solution for maintaining their health. Here is an interesting passage: The creed of the Rice Diet is simple food served plainly. For novices, the Rice Diet consists of rice and fruit. Later on in treatment, vegetables are added. The rice is plain and boiled, without any salt. The fruit is canned or fresh. Each dieter's daily calorie allotment of calories ranges between four hundred and seven hundred a day. A typical breakfast at the Rice House consists of one half of a grapefruit, two-thirds cup of oatmeal, and one cup of Sanka - without cream or sugar. Lunch and dinner are identical: two-thirds of a cup of rice and two servings of fruit. All of us, no matter how large or small, eat rice and fruit until the staff says otherwise. The physical results of the Diet are felt immediately and resemble the early stages of starvation. Withdrawing from food causes the body to feed on carbohydrates stored in the liver. Dr. Kempner referred to this process as "cooking your own bacon." Ricers refer to it as "auto-cannibal." The body makes adaptive changes, and as less food is taken in, less energy is expended. The heartbeat slows down, blood pressure drops, internal organs shrink. Dieters experience severe headaches, lethargy, and disorientation. We call this disorientation "Ricerhead," and its onset signals the body's loss of sodium and potassium. Ricerhead is extremely common in beginning dieters. Ricers use walking as our main exercise and often walk seven, ten, or even fifteen miles a day. One very ambitious group of Dieters walked all the way to Raleigh - twenty-three miles away! We exercise while consuming very little food and no salt whatsoever. Sometimes the levels of sodium and potassium in the body get too low, and a Ricer will pass out. When this happens, the staff adds toast and tomato juice to the Diet. Other side effects include aching muscles, hair loss, changes in menstrual patterns, and vivid dreaming about food. While on the Rice Diet, I would get up at night and look in the wastebaskets to make sure I hadn't really consumed the food I'd dreamed about. The harrowing period of side effects lasts about ten days, followed immediately by a brief period of a near-euphoria where one feels light, airy and pure in body and spirit. The headaches depart, and clear thought and excess energy occur. Now the body feeds on its own fat and muscle. Weight loss is twenty-five percent fat, twenty-five percent muscle, and fifty percent water. The face thins out, skin sags, and cheeks hollow as bone structure emerges. Most of us eat rice and fruit for six weeks. After that time, if all body levels such as blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol are normal and the staff allows it, we are allowed to have vegetables. By this point, significant weight loss has occurred.

@@suzybear22 I believe Dr. McDougall considers Dr. Kempner his hero because he "saved" these peoples lives. They had acute hypertension and would have died within 5-6 months. The sad thing is that this worked because it was such a restrictive diet. Of COURSE you lose all the weight when you walk all day and eat only some fruit and rice. EVERYBODY knows this. Is this ideal long term? NO. It is just another ONE way to eat and diet to starve yourself... works short term. Unmaintainable long term... this is not a life solution. People like Dr mcDougall are severely eating disordered and this is why they can restrict themselves so heavily long term - i mean, look at the guy... does he look like the picture of health? I think we often forget about the balance thing... there are many people living to old age who do not eat the rice diet, who in fact, eat things like butter or cheese or sugar or even drink alcohol... The thing that's most overlooked, i think, is stress. Are salads healthy, sure. Is fruit great for you? YES we know this. Will some butter or even meat kill you? Nope. I know the internet is full of stories supported by people like mdcougall and esselstyn and their disciples, who want to make you believe you will die an untimely death if you eat any animal fats, or even just any fat in general - even plant fat... which, is NOT supported by science to be bad for you! - but the reality is that it is not this simple. my grandma turns 92 this week, she eats everything these doctors say will kill you at a young age. Well... she's defying that story. And i know many people in my surroundings who just grow old eating whatever. Does that mean we just eat butter all day now? of course not. BUT... NUANCE. please.

What concerns me most about the Rice Diet is the strict adherence to very low calories & extreme non-variation in food. For long-term compliance, I personally need some food enjoyment to be present or else I've truly not got the incentive to keep it up forever 💯

But what upsets me is that I have military insurance and they will only pay for you to see a nutritionist if you already have diabetes or maybe if you are developing it. It is just not right that they do not provide for prevention, but only after if the problem has already presented. I would like to go to my doctor and have him advise me on what to do. I have already done blood work and everything is amazing since I have been on a plant-based diet but I am looking for better foods a more range of things that would benefit my body like the Japanese potato and this guy can’t tell me anything because he does not know much about nutrition. So I am grateful to have people like you and other great plant-based doctors that are willing to educate us and tell us the truth.

Medicare isn’t any better. I experienced pain in my lower back that moved to the left a bit. Went to have it checked out and asked that I get an MRI as I felt it wasn’t specifically a bone issue since the pain migrated to the left side. I was told that Medicare wouldn’t pay for an MRI unless I had x-rays first, so I did. The MRI showed that I had a slight stage of osteoarthritis. So Medicare spent close to $3k for x-rays.

"moderation is a slippery slope".... So what we're really saying is that the pure 100% following is a psychological issue, not a actual dietary issue. If someone uses a couple sprays of cooking oil to keep items from sticking, it really makes no impact on the benefit of the diet. Rather the no-oil rule is really all about mental strictness. If a individual can use a couple sprays of oil, or eats the tiny piece of ham in the 28 ounce can of Bush's Baked beans, it really doesn't affect the diet, except in a psychological way... "slippery slope" For those who don't have the psychological weakness, there is no problem if a "drop" of oil was used in a food or meal. Not everyone needs handcuffs. Long term success may work best for those who do it 95 or 99 percent. As they say, "know thyself"

It's not sugar per se - it's that bacteria that can feed off sugar (notably simple and refined sugars, but also some fruit sugars) that increases acidity in the mouth that causes the decay. And yes, there are some foods that are more acidic naturally that are worth taking note of - vinegar, or citric acid, although these don't seem to have a drastic effect on dental decay for some people.

It seems simple enough, if you follow the 4 Phases to the letter, to promote healing and weight loss. From what I've read so far, you have to have a strong desire and commitment to do it. The book says many don't have the discipline or mindset, and give up. (Probably best to be not monitored and tracked for accountability.) But also, it says many can and do succeed. Probably starting a channel and posting progress would help someone stay accountable to themselves. Just a thought.

which rice diet book? the one by one of his patient gave a different account of what she ate..rice diet report differs from the first comment..someone said the book called the rice diet by barbara something is just an autobiography with no actual diet..he said just buy the cookbook,..where is the actual plan from kempner himself? the guy above said 4 phases...the report says six...can someone post an actual pdf of kempners actual diet?

Not everyone has insurance and furthermore mine won’t even cover for a nutritional list unless I am already diabetic. The way I will say this is that you are not seeking a medical expert to eat garbage and order pizza and enjoy wings then why do you need to procrastinate on making an amazing change like eating rice and vegetables and potatoes? Just something to think about Seeking a doctors guidance is always nice, but I got to say I doubt it would make a difference if you are eating like trash to switch to healthy foods such as the ones described in this video

Himalayan salt or sea salt is also bad?
@GraceDollesin
@GraceDollesin Год назад
No! Sea salt is loaded with minerals. Without these kind of salt (not table salt) our heart won’t fire properly. Our heart needs salt. There is electricity firing happening in our heart and it need minerals especially salt to function properly. People who don’t use or use little salt has heart palpitations problems. Heart beat abnormally. I’m not a doctor, I just happened to studied nutrition/dietary. My vertigo/dizziness healed by using Celtic salt in my warm water. I put a pinch of Celtic salt and sip it throughout the day. People who pass out get treated with salt in the hospital. My spouse pass out at work , they took him to hospital and he was given a sodium .

Rice is 100% a superfood. For Dr McDougall, first of all, R.I.P., you will be very missed, it was potatoes. Idk why but for me, potatoes react badly with my stomach acid. I get aggresive acid reflux, but with rice, nothing. It gives me crazy energy, crazy satiety and amazing well-being. Just boiled rice with a little bit of salt, some veggies and just a little bit of chicken breast (like 200g) and some apples, and rn I'm losing 2kg per week. Went from 129.6kg to 114.9 kg in just 7 weeks. I work in a butchery and I think exercise is enough. Also hunger is super low with rice and I just eat once a day.
