One of the many beautiful things in this show is that standup lines that are usually followed by the audience's laughter are followed by a slightly disinterested 'mmhm'
I love this so much because I feel like too many comedians rely on the audience to sell their bits and basically listening to their mirror practice set is just so endearing
I ALWAYS watch these when I'm super stressed or just want to zone out into something that truly is similar to therapy. Laughter truly is the best medicine
dom is the best patient on this show, not just because his comedy is hilarious, but because his conversations with katz are actually 2-way and don't sound scripted. even though there are a lot of patients who are not just reciting their standup acts, dom is one of the few who is just funny because he's talking.
Jess WILLS literally that’s his stand up style tho so it def works for this kind of show. remember when Don wore high heels to his session?! and remember when he was wearing Flip flops?... remember when Don wasn’t wearing ANY shoes at all?! god he’s funny
“It took me three doctors and $500 to convince you that you didn’t have an ovarian cyst.” “Well. . . . Y’know I’m still convinced that I did.” Bruh that line is too good
It's not so much that I'm not afraid of them, it's that I act irrationally around them... I'm concerned I'm going to do something to that bee that we are both going to regret.
@@13lood13ath That makes three of us, and I’ll bet there are thousands. I have Apple Music, but… nope. I checked Amazon, and… no. RU-vid? Uh-uh. It’s frustrating; Snyder’s cues for Dr. Katz are so very, very good. I’d have thought finding them would be a snap. This looks like a job for fandom… who out there has the know-how and time to go through the series finding the fullest uninterrupted examples of each cue? I don’t, so come on, somebody; this is your chance to be an internet hero.
“i don’t really like the summer bc i have red hair. i don’t really tan i just burst into flames!” “that’s a talent.” Agaaaaaawwwsdd Johnathan Katz is hilarious!!!!!
I always say that I'm so pale that I "burst into flames" in the sun, too. I thought my own brain came up with that line, but nope, it just co-opted it from Dr. Katz and made me believe it was original.
I watched them when they were first aired & I'm also here at 2018. Its been so long I had forgot about the show completely. so much better now because I didn't know who most of the comedians were the first time.
If ever a show deserved a reboot... I mean think of modern comics doing a session I'd luv to hear katt williams, iliza, so many that would kill on this show
Joke no one but me seems to notice in this: when Ben thinks he has SIDS, Dr. Katz says he has GRIDS. GRIDS is an old name for AIDS, standing for Gay-Related Immunodeficiency Syndrome.
9:00 this has happened to me too. I was living in a fairly big city and it wasn't a routine like a specific rush hour but just out of weird randomness I'm at a cafe and recognize a lady i'd just randomly passed in a shopping center hours earlier. A week later its the same girl at a random gas station fill-up. A few weeks later we were at a rather obscure tourist attraction and she's wandering around with a group a bit ahead. A year later I'm getting insurance at some new office place and i swear she's the agent I'm talking to. All of these are far distances, random pattern things and YET somehow we keep crossing paths and i don't think she ever noticed this the other way. right, did God run out of extras? what is that all about?
I have loved Dr. Katz since the late 90s when he was just an advertising bump. And I love that there are still new things to discover upon rewatching!!
this is just a vehicle for stand up comedy, the therapy sessions are just old material of these two comedians that they would do verbatim on stage. Pretty good idea
This is another show I'm just now discovering. That's what I get for refusing to pay for television...it's the principle of the thing. It's a good thing I don't mind paying my phone bill.
is the dialog from the patients taken from their comedy bits or are the comedians actually coming into the studio and doing dialog like when they refer to it as a therapy session, or is it a mixture of both?
yeah emily li is right. With comedians, it is usually simply their standup act, while katz simply has a first row seat of their neurosis. When Katz' patient is an actor, such as jeff goldblum or winona ryder, its more of a back and forth conversation
