HRT is a complete life saver. It’s changed my life for sure. Thank you Louise for sharing your expertise. So long I was told it’s anxiety and depression and as a psychotherapist I knew this wasn’t the case. I was left to my own devices for 6 years and told by a male doctor that because of my blood results I wasn’t in menopause. I was in peri-menopause. Thank goodness that has changed. I’ve since talked to a good GP and two wonderful sympathetic female pharmacists who continue to help me monitor my symptoms and HRT. Times have changed.

Hugs hun....I also went thru it for 5 years without even knowing about peri and menapause....I thought menapause started in your 50s and was just your periods stopping....nobody had ever explained the hormone side so I didnt have a clue....sounds stupid but iv learnt more in the last 2 months than I have for years......thank you so much Dr Louise.....you are a life saver and an incredible woman and DR

@@andreafabiana3161 hi Andrea, when I was first put on the patches I had three calls from a pharmacist to follow up on how I was getting on with then and about the dosage and how to use them. I thought one of the pharmacists was very good. The other was less compassionate but it was booked as an appointment at an allotted time so I knew when I would get the call. They couldn’t prescribe, it had to go through the doctor but for the most part it was useful. Not sure how pharmacists add it to their work load though. However, I’m grateful.

Hi all, a lot more needs to be done to bring this life changing cycle for you ladies and also men, my partner is going through the peri menopause she was 48 when she started the menopause and I am a guy who is neatly 47 and I to am having hot flushes, night sweats forgetting things etc etc I’ve had tests done and they have said i have low vitamin D deficiency, I believe I am also going through the male menopause called Andropause, the reason for my post is i’m so greatful for the 2 books Menopause the books for men and men let’s talk menopause, I brought these books as they were recommended by a ladies menopause group just so I as a guy could understand what my partner is going through. I am also greatful to Davina McCall for making the Sex, Myths and Menopause documentary 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Excellent video. I live in America and it's unbelievable how few doctors know anything about menopause. I'm 52 and started going through menopause around 40. I now have osteoporosis. My GP never recommended a bone density test even though both parents have osteo and my sister has osteopenia. Crazy. Then when my back was continuing to hurt for 2 years even after doing physical therapy (which was making it hurt worse), I asked for the test. It showed that I had it. I'm so disappointed with the lack of knowledge from the doctors. The orthopedist said that he didn't know much about menopause and bones. What???? I'm now changing doctors, but finding one that knows anything about menopause has been very difficult.

Thank you so much for all your valuable information and understanding on the effects that menopause is having on most women. You have given me hope and belief that I will get through this. I started HRT 10 weeks ago at age 60 . I had to go private as my GP of 25 years scoffed at my symptoms saying what do you expect it's menopause just as you described she put me on xanax and lexapro for my crippling anxiety and the fact that I couldn't stop crying. I thought I was going mad. Then Thank god you were recommended to me and I was told." Just listen to Louise's video's " and for the first time in year's I have light at the end of a very very dark tunnel. Thank you Dr Louise Newton. 🙏

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping to set our minds at ease. I started going through premature menopause when I was 37. I am now 41 and over the last few years as my hormone levels have plummeted, I have felt myself deteriorate physically, mentally, and emotionally. As someone who has always been physically active and organized, this has been especially difficult to deal with and honestly rather terrifying. I finally found the courage to talk to my GP about HRTs and based on my blood and my lack of periods for over 2 years, it seems I am menopausal. She mentioned antidepressants, but also knows I have no interest in taking them. She also doesn't seem interested in giving me HRTs. After some homework, it seems difficult if not impossible to find the proper hormones in the States. Overseas it is!

Based on this video I began taking HRT despite my being able to cope with my menopause symptoms. What a nightmare I've had. I opted for the hrt patches as Louise explains there's zero risks with those. I tried putting them on my legs. They fell off. On my bum. They fell off. Eventually I managed to get them to stay on my stomach after wasting 4 patches. The next part is bloody awful. Because I still have my womb I need to take Utrogestan tablets from days 15-26. At 7pm last night I took my 1st 2 X 100mg tablets. After 1 hour I had pain in both legs from ankles to top of knees. 2 hours later I couldn't move. The room was spinning so badly that I couldn't get up & my balance had completely gone. An hour after that my balance began to return slightly but it was still bad. I cannot believe that I wasn't told these are sedatives. It's the morning after the night before & I'm still dizzy, although that's improved 50% but still have a blindly headache & also still have awful pain in my legs. Tried to get medical care but Dr didn't have a clue & told me to just take HRT patches which as confirmed by a pharmacist, is dangerous advice. Got another Dr ringing me later but I'm thinking of coming off HRT altogether. I was well before I began taking it

Oh my goodness! I was diagnosed with exactly this, completely out of the blue, and had no idea that it could even possibly be a menopausal symptom at all! I went through early menopause between the ages of 31-36 years of age, was told I didn't need HRT and just to drink lots of milk, which eventually gave me kidney stones! I was told that losing weight would be virtually impossible now, so I stopped trying and facial hair is causing me severe problems! This video has opened up a whole new world for me! I wish there were more Dr Louise Newson's out there! All I got when reporting my suspicions that I had started menopause at 31 was that I "was being ridiculous" as I was "far too young"! 😕

So do you take HRT for the rest of your life or is it just for the symptoms to get you through the other side? The other side I guess we loose the hormone and are at risk of health problems? Or this there a different hormone replacement on the other side? Or once we are on the other side, we don’t need to take any hormone replacements? As you can tell, I’m sooo confused. I have chronic over heating and hrt did nothing. It's so bad my clothes soak right through and on top of that are the hot flushes and night sweats. It's no thyroid related and I've just been abandoned by my GP. Also is it not estrogen dominance that causes the flushes. No mathow many people explain the menopause none say the same thing. It's exasperating

What age is too old for starting HRT? My periods stopped at age 57 I'm now 67 and having "problems" dryness, poor sleep, mood swings. I don't smoke or drink alcohol.

My doctor has told me there is more estrogen in the contraceptive pill than in my everol 100 patches. This is the only option I have been given because my body doesn't seem to be absorbing the patches well. Surely this can't be right, I said I would have a think about it and get back to her

Yes , I'm 56 and on hrt last 6 years and it's best decision I made. Old woman are taking it, why not 😳 what they got to loose. You wont get anything better from vitamins or cosmetic surgery and you'll look ten years younger feel great and you'll feel a nicer person. Menopause is miserable I really don't buy any women saying oh I'm fine I didn't feel anything , oh I'd never touch hrt , they don't know the positive things about hrt, meanwhile they are shuffling around looking like Golam 🥴 and suffering with vaginal atrophy. No thanks, It's holy grail to me. ❤️

I’m a guy and I’m not laughing I feel this is the cause of my partner asking for a break she is nearly 49 , you’d think with her symptoms she’s just exhausted by what she does in her day to day life, but now I’m her partner I’ve seen her put on a brave face to others then slump on me where she can’t be bothered to do anything, I picked up on her change around 8 weeks ago. we are on a break now and have not spoken for 4 days until today where she’s told me she’s made an appointment at the dr’s and she’s having a blood test but knowing her cycle she is worst the week before her monthlies and better once she starts to release her blood! so she will be having her blood test done between being on and coming off so she will have a normal blood test reading.. can I also ask I’m a bloke 46 and I get night sweats and hot flushes
@debboo69
@debboo69 3 года назад
Yes, many doctors just kept prescribing me anti-depressants, which just made me worse. When I insisted I felt my symptoms were due to ‘the change’ I was ordered to have blood tests but I’ve since discovered that literally NO blood test can identify menopause or peri-menopause!!. It’s shocking the lack of understanding and knowledge amongst medical professionals (both male AND female) regarding menopause and associated symptoms. After many years of suffering it took me seeing a junior, female doctor who was experienced in the field of menopause (I was suicidal by that point) who identified my symptoms as hormonal issues. I got lucky. She suggested HRT and asked me many questions regarding medical history to deduce which form of HRT to put me on. Within ONE MONTH I began feeling like my old self again. Like a human being and able to enjoy life again. 6 months in, and it’s like a revelation..I’m a different person. Don’t give up. You sound like a very supportive gentleman. I hope your partner gets the help she deserves..but it can take some persistence, which I find incredibly sad. Anti-depressants and a course of CBT will not help. I feel like I lost 6 years of living a life of any quality because my symptoms were misunderstood.

@@debboo69 wow!!! You really did have a hard time, especially if you were so low to feel the way you did but to feel as you are now it must be amazing to be back to you again. Thank heavens for the Junior Dr that picked up on your well-being and got you the right help or who knows where you’d be right now. I do understand that no blood tests can identify peri menopause or menopause it’s just the low and high they’d see and as my Cinderella will be between on and coming off they will say all is ok !! . I think it is wrong that you ladies go through body changing times and the medical professionals can’t pick up on it, surly by now it’s been around long enough for a normal GP to think hang on we give out anti-depressant tablets for ladies of a certain age when there must be underlying issues. I emailed hello@menopause support and I had some information back and in the information there are 2 sheets that over a period of time ladies can keep a track of their cycle and write down how they feel etc etc then they had it to their GP so they can see it for themselves which I think is a good idea. I would really love to go with my lady when she goes to the Drs to support her and to explain to them my findings and how she has changed in herself and with me but no matter how much she pushes me away I know she loves me. I feel sorry for guys who don’t have the information the understanding or support either with what’s happening to them instead of just assuming that the ladies are going off them or having an affair when the last thing for you all is to have the affair when sex is last thing on your minds. All it takes is a little knowledge and they’d get it they’d alter their ways and be more supportive towards their ladies who they say they love , I know I love my woman this is why I’m on different sites finding information out and we do not live together but one day we shall it would be so much easier if we were, she is a tough lady but has some insecurities she says she loves me to much but yet pushes me away when all I want to do is show her and support her to reassure her, she’s had some rotters in the past but I’m here and I’m here to stay with her she has said she is so lucky to have me but I feel I’m so lucky to have her. Well for me it’s only more research and support from a distance until she is ready to allow me back in where she’s flinging her arms around me. Now that she has mentioned about her hormones being all over the place, I’m not sure if it’s the right time for me to say look beautiful, can we talk about it and explain to her what I’ve noticed and share with her that she’s not alone in this as I too have done a little research into this or just say to her please tell me what you’d like me to do so I can take some of the burden off of her so she doesn’t think she’s going mad, crazy or insane.. I wish you all the best debboo69,. Ps I mean up until yesterday I didn’t know men go through the change too,, ours is called Andropause.....

Can HRT be prescribed for women who have a surgical menopause because they carry the faulty BRCA gene?

Hi Shirley, Dr Newson has created lots of resources on this topic that you might find helpful. You can find them all over on menopausedoctor.co.uk, here is the link: www.menopausedoctor.co.uk/search?query=surgical Best wishes.

My Menopause Doctor Thank you. I have read the fact sheet Menopause and Cancer which doesn’t specifically mention the BRCA gene although it does say “There are alternative medications that can be prescribed for symptoms if you cannot take HRT...” It then goes on to mention drugs that have possible unpleasant side effects and will/may not address the long term health problems associated with lack of oestrogen. Is it therefore correct to assume that women who carry the BRCA gene will just have to soldier on?

Why is my GYN very against HRT?
@Elizabeth-qd6xu
@Elizabeth-qd6xu Год назад
Because your gyn is wise, honest and not bewitched by pharma reward$. If you have bad menopause symptoms, chances are you have iodine deficiency (most people do these days) ... and your body is probably too acidic. Address those two things before you go *anywhere* near HRT.

@@debboo69 Hi foods that naturally replace estrogen: flax seeds,soyabeans,dried fruit,sesame seeds which are also rich in calcium,garlic,peaches and berries. Herbs chastberry, also red clover,best wishes😇

@@nicolaverma3729 I understand you are well meaning, but those foods will not replace the estrogen lost due to menopause. I tried the natural way and had several consults with a naturopath. I radically changed my diet cutting out all processed foods and eating lots of whole natural foods. This helped a tiny bit, but not much. The only thing that truly helped was menopause hormone therapy. I should have done that first rather than wasting all that time and money at the naturopath.
