The reactivation of Eocene dextral oblique normal faults from Siletzia's collision being changed into reverse faults late in the covergance story makes sense as the plate directions changed and rates of convergence varied. The latest High-Res. sonar mapping clearly shows a NNE-SSW oriented JDF spreading ridge, with the Pacific plate moving WNW and the JDF plate diverging to the ESE. I see the “Northeast vector” being presented repeatedly despite the evidence against it within easy access on Google Earth. Please explain how the Juan De Fuca (JDF) plate can move obliquely away from its JDF-Gorda transform faults and spreading ridges, or how the whole plate can have a NE vector without plate-wide distortion, which doesn't exist; indeed, the Southern Gorda distortion evidence proves that any distortion is limited to the immediate plate, is accomodating and prevents distortion to the adjacent plates. Your use of the incorrect NE vector for the whole JDF plate to explain the NW rotation is a parroting of junk science, which began before the latest technologies existed, through the Respect-Assumption-Belief continuum (Junk Science.) Your observations and interpretations regarding the source of the Yakima Fold and Thrust Belt and NW Rotation are miopicly limited to the immediate PNW region @40:23; if your observations extended down the San Andreas Fault (SAF) Terrane system to its conveyance source @Baja- East Pacific Rise Offsets and if you have a thorough knowledge of the California Terranes, faults and movements, you would know how and where the NW rotational energy originates. (Btw, the SAF doesn't end @Cape Mendocino, it extends as the Continental shelf adjacent to the Klamath Mtns. to North of Bandon, OR. and in direct contact with the Siletz Terrane's Southern margin.) Picture a 2500 Kilometer long Terrane train from the Sea of Cortez to Vancouver, BC. (Baja-BC.) So where is the rotational energy coming from? Superficially from the Southwesterly NA conveyance, incohesive PNW Terrane jointing, and the NNW migration of the California Terranes away from the East Pacific Rise spreading ridge in the Gulf of California; but primarily driven from migrational flow via the mantle convection cells. Forget "Slab-Pull" being 90% of plate movement because it somehow ignores the role of the asthenosphere and mantle. No disrespect to Karin Sigloch and Mitch Mihalynuk.
