This remarkable woman deserves to be remembered. Her name should be taught in High Schools alongside the negotiations leading up to The Good Friday Agreement.
Bless you, Mo!

A lovely woman indeed and she's greatly missed.

THIS is a role model for Women AND Men. I’m fed up of Tiktok “influencers” and awful celebrities manipulating little girls. This woman should be taught and discussed in our schools - especially in the UK. You only need to read a little about Mo or watch the excellent film starring Julie Walters to understand why this woman deserves to be remembered. And ladies, THIS is a Role Model! Not the women on Love Island and the likes… This woman went through Hell and back with a smile on her face and achieved astonishing success as “The People’s Politician”.

Hear hear 👏🏼 Mo was so deeply human, so connected with others, and found her power in that. It’s there for us all to access if we seek it… and it does not at all involve trying to tear others down to make ourselves feel bigger. The film is excellent too, good shout! It’s searching for it that brought me to this video.

@@willslingwood Well said! It’s always reassuring to know that people still remember Mo fondly. I wish I could share the entire movie on here but I doubt Ch4 would allow it. It is available on their streaming service though.

@@willslingwood I got a copy of it in Oxfam The film it's very good. So I spent the afternoon re-engaging with Mo and of course I've not forgotten her how could anyone. There's a scene in the film at Hillsborough castle when her husband and two step children come over. "It's queenie's house but she doesn't use it very often"they broke the mould when they made her. She was only 55 when she passed away bless her.🌷 Absolute sweetheart.🌷🌹

@@jeffreysherring2636 I absolutely agree with you! There were many charming moments like that in the film. The “Tennessee Waltz” scene is the one that stuck out to me for some reason. It really shows that you don’t have to be duplicitous to be a politician. What you saw is what you got with Mo. The film really does make her endearing to anyone coming across her for the first time.

A tragedy she died so young achieved a lot in her short life but could have gone on and achieved so much more ❤❤❤

I completely agree, she should have been given a position equal to that which she held in Northern Ireland, had her health permitted it. I look at our government today and wonder where the likes of Mo Mowlam or Glenda Jackson have gone to. People who are able to commit to an issue, however big or small, and get the work done!

We in Ireland have good reason to distrust figures related to the English establishment… but, in esteem, Mo Mowlam and Princess Diana are up there together with the very best.

I’m glad that you in Ireland and I in Scotland can come together in admiration and respect of this extraordinary woman! I’m thinking of the late Glenda Jackson too. Let’s keep their memories alive so that future members of government learn how to get a job done.

@@musicalmagpie741Vanessa Redgrave is another… ah, to be honest, there have been plenty of legends of privileged or aristocratic English backgrounds who have broken the mould in that regard. Mostly women, naturally.

@@willslingwood you’re reading my mind! If I were to recommend political role models then they are Mo Mowlam, Glenda Jackson and Vanessa Redgrave. All women and this is my opinion as a man. Not even an Englishman as I’m up in Scotland. Didn’t Miss Redgrave attempt to bring down the government by forming her own party on the 70s? I know she is a keen activist. I remember her being bood at The Oscars because of her pro-Palestinian sentiments and calling Zionists, who bombed theatres that showed her Palestine documentary, a bunch of extremist hoodlums. I’ve been wondering lately what her thoughts on what’s currently happening are. And if I could throw a Royal in then it would definitely be Princess Anne. Monarchist or not, there is a lot to admire and respect about her.

I meant to put 90’s as I didn’t know the exact year but you’re absolutely right, thanks for pointing that out. Greatly appreciated. I’ll correct it now!

@@musicalmagpie741 It must be 98 mate, after GFA. Mo was some women. I was born in 2001 and I doubt I would be here without her and others leadership :)

@@10aaronlove Thanks for your point - I’ve since managed to find the broadcast date and it was oddly 1999, so I was way off. Thanks for bringing it to attention though. I’ll get it corrected:)
