I love how Maya says ''right may not be expedient, it may not be profitable, but it will satisfy your soul.'' Two days ago I was riding my bike and while crossing the street I was hit by a car. The lady got out of the car and offered to pay for my bike and call 911. It wasn't that serious and I dismissed her and said ''its ok, im fine, don't stress everything is going to be okay , dont worry about the bike, I can get home on my own.'' (I did get hurt but nothing broken) She was surprised but kept insisting to pay for any damages and I kept saying no. Finally she pulled out her purse, a little torn and ragged and i told her ''no thank you, its ok'' She began to tear, and honestly I didn't know why. Coincidentally a friend of mine was in one of the cars behind the lady and got out. She saw the whole thing and said two things ''do you want me to call 911 and did you get her contact information? I said no to both. She asked me why and i told her that because It was an accident. Even today two day later, my bike is still broken and I still have cuts and bruises, but I feel like I did the right thing. The thing is I could have sued that lady, fixed my bike and bought some stuff. But to ruin somebody's financial situation or record at my expense just doesn't seem worth it to me. I think that whoever that lady is she has a respect for me, despite the fact Ill probably never see her again, I think I changed her life.
Do not care what seems to others. Just do right. =) One day, they will see it and do it too. But until then, do not look behind you, do not look around you, just go your way and do right =)
And she was very creative. Even the way she speaks is like a piece of art. Her language skills are incredible. Saw her in person about 30 some years ago at Michigan State University at a lecture.
I came here today because I need to hear Maya Angelou's voice. I need hope that not all is lost. I need hope that there is still infinite good in people, and that no matter what, love trumps hate. Dr. Angelou, I so wish you were here today, sister. The world needs your words and wisdom right now. Help us heal.
I think her words have never been more important than now. A time seemed to be filled with so much hate and people brought down all the time, we need to do right. I feel so uplifted after hearing her speak. "We are more alike my friends than unalike."
She's the epitome of the kind of woman I always wished I had. So full of God love, wisdom, common sense, street smarts & kindness. She was truly Blessed. I always said she's my mother in my head. She's with the Lord now. Always loved her!
Maya, you were such an inspiration to me. I never realised how much I looked up to you or loved you until I heard you had passed away and I couldn't stop the tears rolling down my cheeks. Rest in peace, you angel.
This woman reaches into my soul...I cannot get enough of her....a truly magnificent human being! I am so glad to know that I shared this world with her...
The most awesome thing a camera has ever done was recording knowledge from an elder. Many more cameras should be on now to capture the verbal wisdom that can be shared to gives stability to this chaotic world. Many people don’t read anymore, yet they can hear and see information that fortifies their mind. May that saturation cleanse out the old thoughts of wrong and leave, Do Right.
she was so amazing, beautiful in word and spirit, and shared in a language that people felt, the message she was trying to share. She is dearly missed and her message will be held close for a very long time. She was a legend- classy- and with the voice of Humanity in the message within the stories she told.

Dr. Angelou has to be divinely inspired when she penned her poetic pieces. This message is so timely in a world where most of us feel that we should do wrong rather than right. You will be missed but never forgotten. Your work lives on for generations to come.

What i've realised and learned from Maya Angelou is that, no matter what lies, oppression and hate is directed towards; you have to continue to rise above. When you have a strong self perception of yourself and when you give yourself to others; you will not be found condemned for. Perhaps, the meaning of life isn't about what is waiting on the other side; the adversities you face along your journey is the meaning of life. #StillIRise

There's invincible beauty in Maya's words. My teacher in school introduced me to her spoke of her work with such passion. Inspiring. Inspiring my work and poetry. There's a lesson for us all in Maya's words.

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video. Maybe over 100 now. I just love Maya, and ever since I was a little girl her words and voice have given me comfort in the most difficult of times.
You will be missed. Your powerful blessed gifted words will shine on in history. You influenced a positive change for so many women offering strength and support and life lessons. RIP. Angels await your spirit. You walked the walk of a truly giving life.

I was listening to this and wondered how many of us may not have heard these words. If we could just pass this story onto not one but several people that feel down, less of themselves, doing or thinking wrong, etc and if we could just get really absorb and listen....UNDERSTAND this story....Change, People, Life would be different.
