No we won't because these services are extremely sketchy about how and what they'll do with the data they have on you. They plan to monetize client's DNA by selling it to research and insurance companies that intend to use it to your detriment. Insurance companies will use this data or your knowledge of your risk of getting certain diseases as an excuse to deny your medical claims - you are obligated under Insurance agreements to disclose that you knew you had a higher risk to a disease. You're better off NOT subscribing to these services because there's a lack of protection for consumers.

Well it was pretty funny despite the fact that I do not like the idea of shipping my DNA _and_ sensitive personal information off to some random people running a company I've never heard of before.
Honestly. And it's funny that the official brand commercials will try to do that too but they come off way cornier to younger audiences than when our favorite content creators do it lol
always been scared of online tests like that, professionally medical or not. They collect your all your dna and data and you have no idea who in person got the info
Thats because some of these tests cormes with counseling before or after the results to prepare people who are at risk This is not a good idea for all people, please be careful
Why does it matter? If people really wanted to they can collect your dna pretty easily. Its not like there are data in your dna that can be used against you?
Yeah.... them kits be shady though. I've emailed multiple companies that do this and could never get a straight answer about what happens to my DNA sample, information.
I wouldn't do it because they can put your DNA in public database that police can use. Plus they don't warn you to get life insurance before finding out you might be prone to something that insurance doesn't cover Don't commit insurance fraud by not disclosing you're higher risk for anything.

DO NOT DO THIS! They can change their ethics and sell your DNA which insurance companies can use to increase your premiums and they can even use this for medical trials/testing/experimental trials, etc. Also, how do you know this is safe? It’s extremely expensive almost $500 even with the discount and it’s likely cheaper (if you know you’re at risk) with your PCP or consultant. It’s also more reliable and also controlled, not sold or distributed, and people can’t just gain access to it. Someone is running this company, what if they use someone’s DNA for a crime scene… idk. I would get far too scared for this stuff.
Disclaimer: not all risk factors are genetic even if passed down in families (Genetica is complex, and epigenetic causes are also missed by these commercial tests). Don't use a DNA test as an excuse for poor lifestyle or omitting recommended testing.
This ^! You can be the healthiest person & still have health issues. Always worth a check up with the doctor once a year, where they’ll do all the necessary testing.
Of course! But also vice versa cuz not all doctors are thorough. I’ve had other issues that I’ve seen doctors for and they keep saying can’t find anything and I didn’t share this part of my report but I’m high risk for some diseases that totally make sense with some of my symptoms so now I’m aware and will def follow up with doctors regarding these!

i always thought that i would deff get diabetes, cuz literally everyone from my mom’s side of the family has diabetes (my uncles, aunts, grandparents, great-grandparents, and my mom ofc) but im completely healthy
Just, please be careful! I did this one. It was wrong. I was tested at 14 for the breast cancer gene after my mum was diagnosed and I 100% have the gene but according to circle my parents arent my parents (based on my ethnicity) and I dont have the breast cancer gene. I am 100000% my mothers daughter unfortunately for me and according to circle I'm english and irish, bit impossible as I'm Norwegian, german, russian and romanichal gypsy 😅 I have a risk of high cholesterol, pre diabetes and the breast cancer gene as well as I have CKD which was diagnosed when I was 11 and crohn's disease which was diagnosed at 10 (I'm 32 now and I was about 29/30 when I did circle) circle got everything but 2 things wrong for me 😂 I will NEVER trust them
@peachjamez I'm a biologist, I have masters degrees in biomedical engineering and one in biochemistry, I specialised in genetics, genetic diseases and disorders and I do believe that makes me pretty damn sure and also makes me qualified to also say, these tests, especially this one, are inaccurate and incorrect. And again, I know my familial background and my ethnicity
@@peachjamezcircle dna is a complete joke when it comes to ethnicity estimates if you’re European. They’re a Hong Kong based company so it makes sense that their reference panel is mostly Asian. My results are hilarious.

Me, a genetic counselor: JEENIE NOOOOO WHYYYYYY! This is really, really bad 😰 Especially the breast cancer "risk assessment" no, no, no, that's not how this works, that's not how any of this works... If you have an aunt with breast cancer, or a family history of a particular genetic condition (e.g. if your dad's a carrier of cystic fibrosis or something), do not go to 23andMe or Circle or whatever, do not let your doctor handle the testing, ask your doctor for a referral to a genetic counselor. It kills me when a patient says, "I had 23andMe and it said 'no variant detected' for [disorder], so that means I'm not a carrier, right?" NO, THAT'S NOT WHAT THAT MEANS. It means you're not a carrier of the 20-something variants on the test. It doesn't mean you're not a carrier of the thousands of other variants for [disorder]. Exhibit A: My son, a carrier of a certain genetic condition on the _right_ type of testing, shows up as "variant not detected" for that condition on his 23andMe. TL;DR: Jeenie noooo don't contribute to misunderstandings about genetic health risk nooooo...
And sometimes, especially with cancer, you may have no genetic disposition for a certain disease but you could very well get it. Genetic testing can be nice to figure out *some* things but this comment hits the nail on the head, it's not perfect and shouldn't be used earnestly.
Yeah, a 23 and me test doesn't negate family history unless you find out you're not actually related, and it's not as accurate as a medical test. I had carrier testing done for pregnancy and they still said it's not 100% because it doesn't test for everything, and they test for a lot.
I hope she reads this and makes a disclaimer about it. It might help you WANT to get tested, but just because it says not detected doesn't mean you're fine. However it could help out doctors when testing. If they know the variants that WERENT detected they can rule those out. It doesn't mean they won't run it again to be sure, but it COULD help them. COULD. There's a slim chance, but it's still there

@@kenshiro7960a doctor, is protected by privacy laws in the us. They might still store patient info (what you have and what you're at risk for) but they are overall more secure and private. You also don't know how accurate a product like this is, you just have to believe their claims.
Fun fact I learned in cooking!: Tho some diseases can be carried genetically most of the time diseases like that actually are not genetic at all the reason people think so is because most the time people share eating habits with their family, so they will get similar or the same diseases as them (watch the video what the health to learn more!)

@@FooodieWorld2817 One commonly brought up thing is that insurance companies can use it to deny insurance, even though a lot of genetical issues don't ever show up because they're dependent on lifestyle. Even where there IS a legitimate risk, I don't think it's fair to the person. Predispositions to disorders can also disqualify people from getting jobs that they may very well be actually good at (e.g. someone has genetic ADHD, wants a job which require an eye for detail, but they have mastered to manage the ADHD to the point where people wouldn't know they have it). Since DNA is so similar between relatives, it could also be possible to know what disorders relatives may have. There are also things like planting DNA somewhere to accuse someone of a crime, or create a twin, or scenarios like that, but those are more outlandish things
I'm really worried about these DNA analysis companies. They save your DNA in a database and can sell your information to basically anyone and you'll never know what it's used for.
Unfortunately yes, probably to the government agencies or some weird people who are trying to chase you or even your far relatives. There has been cases about these
I hope you also make your followers aware of the fact that the company you are sending your DNA to be tested will afterwards have full control over your DNA sample. They will keep it and can use it in ay way they choose (selling it to third parties, doing testing and experimentation, etc). If your DNA material ever falls into the wrong hands, you can become very vulnerable. For example, bio weapons can be developed using this type of material to target specific parts of population. It's ok if you still want to do it, but many people choose to use such services without understanding the full implications.
Hey! Make sure you have health insurance and a life insurance policy in place before you send your test in! They can “disqualify” you based on your results. 😢
... Why would they have access to that information? Genuine question. It's commercial not medicinal, so it shouldn't be in your medical records or taken as medical info either, right?
Honestly what I thought! I just got bday money of $300(I graduated I've never gotten anywhere near this close of money before do not be fooled we are broke they saved up). So I was like, yk what I've been wanting to know exactly how much I'm mixed with and than I saw prices and like bruh. Even the $189 one will be the majority of my money

@@Blrton but that is not what it is doing, they are checking a genetic code for the possibility of getting cancer and other diseases. Just imagine being told at 18 you might be you susceptible to getting a specific disease, not guaranteed, you might spend the rest of your life pussy footing around doing nothing. If do not yet have the disease i can do nothing about it so better I don't know and cross that bridge when I get there rather than be dragged down with excess baggage.

I believe breast cancer can be caused by various mutations and the test can't possibly test for all of them (some are probably unknown). So even if the test tells you that you are low risk for breast cancer doesn't mean you are 100% risk free and should stop checking your breasts. To find out if you have inherited the predisposition that runs in your family, you would need to find the specific cause of breast cancer in your family with the help of a genetic counsellor.
Circle DNA should allow us to choose where we want to store our data and not just store it in the US where the government can just take it any time even without a court order.

Many westerners are obsessed about DNA tests. Not as many Asians are into it, so if you are Asian need not worry too much. Anyway such DNA tests are not 100% accurate depending on the size of gene pools they have collected.

Asian mom upon hearing the results: average risk is still normally (high) risk amount. No sugar for you. Low risk mean you still can get breast cancer. Even if the report said NO risk an asian mom will still pivot as “it can change”
