Each year, thousands of people in the United States suffer from cardiac arrest outside of a hospital, but the survival rate could double if victims were treated with CPR. Dr. Mehmet Oz joins TODAY with the goal of saving lives by giving a CPR refresher and showing how to use an automated defibrillator (AED).

Note: you do not do chest compressions while AED is analyzing

Love how he is so blunt saying drop dead. Also, what is the point of talking over the diffribulator. I completed my First aide level 2 in Australia and someone asked do we need to complete the breaths and the overwhelming answer was yes. The patient stands a far greater chance of survival.

I'm surprised NBC has allowed this to remain without greying out Matt Lauer.

Many errors, you should do 30comptessions and 2 rescue breaths , not do CPR while machine is analyzing and he was doing compressions too fast and too lightly

Exactly.

You shouldn't perform rescue breaths on adults. It reduces the survival rate if you do.

Table was also too high to properly perform it.

Also, he didn’t ask “are you ok? Sir/Ma’am are you alright” combined with those other errors makes me wonder if he’s even a doctor.

1.) You place the pads first and then connect it to the machine 2.) No compressions during analysis, only after.

Why does he advocate compressions while the machine is analyzing?
@Stephie2007

I know right? And what bothers me is that some of this information doesn't line up with the training I received which was through the American Heart Association. AHA says to call 911 first if the person is unresponsive. however, if someone else is with you or you are in a public setting, tell them to call 911 so you can stay with the person needing help (of course, Dr. Oz does mention this part) If the person isn't responsive, you have to administer CPR. The way this is usually done is one palm on the person's chest and your other palm over that palm. This way, compressions are more effective. About the compressions: American Heart Association CPR training courses say to push hard and fast and to give 100-120 compressions per minute (or to the beat of that Bee Gees hit "Stayin' Alive") until help arrives. This is basically the rundown of what I was taught.

On the British machines it will say analysing rhythm do not touch the patient
@THESTIG-cc7fq
@THESTIG-cc7fq 6 лет назад
You need to stop compressions whilst the AED analysis the heart, compressions during this time would give false readings to the AED. The patient needs to be completely still for the AED to analyse heart rhythm.
@YoyoElizEnne
@YoyoElizEnne 6 лет назад
yes . you would tell everyone to step back away from the person , while it is analyzing the rhythm . you do NOT do CPR while it is analyzing !!!! But i have seen some poeple like doing CPR on the person , if the AED says ' shock advised ' and it is charging up its capitators inside the AED .

Whoa, did Oz place the pads on the wrong side? I thought the upper right side of the patient was to have a pad up there.

And still we are having a huge disparity in methodology even in 2018. One says 30 compressions another says 100. WTF ! Let’s start reading off the same hymn sheet. The human body does not vary from country to country or year by year that much.
@michaelryanchavez5377
@michaelryanchavez5377 5 лет назад
ColGadarby 30 chest compressions with 2 rescue breaths per cycle. 100 chest compressions per minute is what emergency personnel aim for. Hope that clarifies things.
@Alpha_7227
@Alpha_7227 Год назад
30 compressions at 100 beats per minute with 2 breaths. That's European and Australian science. The patient stands a far greater chance of survival with rescue breaths. Keep going until the paramedics arrive.

@SHANELOFRANCO

HOW IS HE A MEDICAL DOCTOR, that’s not how you use an AED, First he pressing down on the chest to lightly and to fast to count, second you do 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths, unless your not trained in CPR, third you don’t touch the patient while analyzing, Fourth the lower pad he put on is not in the right position. So how is he a medical doctor?

Remove ahirt and bra and any thing covering application site do 30 compressions and 2 rescue breaths. But for most training you apply the aed first shock when told it is advised and begin compression. Then some training will say compression first then aed. Either or will be of benefit to the patient

I have had to perform cpr on a intoxicated woman and a female heart attack victim definitely remove her top and if she has a bra on remove it if it’s in your way or if you have to use a aed to shock her.

1. Remove the top 2. Look briefly 3. Start chest compressions
