Dr. Ratio is even more amazing when you realize why he was introduced in Ruan Mei quest. He serves as a Contrast to the Reckless, Uncaring, Gaslighting Genius that is Ruan Mei. And now I see why Dr. Ratio is the True Chad.
It also highlights their introductions and subverts them. Ruan Mei is introduced in a simple, down to earth way, just eating cake and admiring the view from the window, she even had a piece leftover on her cheek, making her seem more human, while Ratio is presented in this grandiose way, just this guy with an Alabaster on his head playing chess with himself in the midst of a destroyed facility with monsters roaming around, not giving a care about anything. It does a great job of making you expect them to be one way, but then you realize that Ruan Mei's was a direct attempt to manipulate the player and drug them, while Ratio's even though he was probably expecting us, only wanted to warn us about the danger so we could be ready to deal Ruan Mei's ego.
I’d say the reason he never got Nous’s gaze was cause of his goals. He wants to help people and educate (depiste his personality and way of going about it) While all the Genius society members are chasing after knowledge for knowledges sake regardless of the price. I think that’s way he was never picked since he doesn’t care to break the laws of the universe to seek the truth. He’s full himself but not selfish
His beliefs are the total opposite of Nous as well. Dr. Ratio believes that with education and the spreading of knowledge, ignorance can be cured while Nous on the other hand, you have to be enlightened that you will never know everything but (theory) still goes after knowledge even if the end goal is nigh impossible to achieve.
I knew from the beginning that its design was related to ancient Greek and philosophy. I even talked about the subject with my mother, who has a degree in philosophy, it was really fun! But hearing every reference made was incredible Perfect video, as always.
I'm always amazed at the research you do for these videos. There's so many details that are easy to miss when we only see these characters in-game, really makes me appreciate the design process a lot more. Also great copyright avoidance tactic, 10 points!
How dare you miss the fact that his bath is a ref to the "Eureka" origin story?! XD Thats way more funny than the jojo refs. But the one thing that I noticed about dr Ratio, is that he is a hypocrite. Funnily that word also goes back to greece and the philosophers. But anyway, even though he speak flamboyantly about how even fools can learn, he still look down on the uneducated and less intelligent people, very much like the other geniuses of the genius society. He claim to be willing to teach, yet he don a statues head to distance himself from the uneducated instead of donning a humbler attitude which make him more approachable and the people more willing to learn. That is not conductive for teaching... When it come to teaching and learning, the most important part, is to adapt your mind. If you cannot humble yourself to receive the knowledge, you wont learn. If you cannot change perspective you cannot teach. Im actually speaking from experience. When I was in college, I had art classes, but I was much more advanced in my skills than everyone else due to self learning. Because of this, I thought I wouldnt benefit from the basic teachings that the teachers had for the class. And the teachers were so stuck in what they had to teach, that they couldnt get across what I needed to learn in order to improve. Because of this, it took me a lot longer to improve my art...but I feel it was an important lesson too. So if I ever try to teach someone else, I wont be so rigid but instead adapt the teachings so that the student is able to understand it, use it and be motivated to use it.
What you say is true, but it can be argued that this is not some hypocricy of character but instead how he truly feels. He doesn't want to be humble to others because being kind and forgiving might make some people too laid back to rise up to the challenge. Some people need tough love in order to improve and change their lives for the better, it's the "ordinary" he despises and also sees in himself. He explains it at the end of the video in 10:25
I just discovered this series of videos and I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!! I’ve always loved character design analysis, and with the way you are enthusiastically introducing the different elements of Dr Ratio’s outfit and their significance, it gets me so hyped up!! Your video gave me so much more insight into Dr Ratio and what inspired what specifically. I also really liked how you went through not only his clothes, but also the references in his kit and his name, and even delving briefly into the history of figures such as Pythagoras and Socrates! And of course, one cannot make Star Rail content without acknowledging its multiple references to memes hahahahaha Especially love the thumbnails too!! They look so well put together and I like how the Capital letter is shared for multiple words, creates a really cool effect 👍👍👍 Take care, hope to see more videos in the future (^ ^) And in the words of the man himself - Good job, 10 points!
An excellent video for Dr. Ratio As a Greek I approve and I'm proud you represented everything correctly! In many ways, I find myself sympathize a lot with him
These are awesome! I think its better to take your time. As they say, quality over quantity, But what do i know. "All i know is that i know nothing", right Dr. Ratio?
Your series in Star Rail Gazette is such a cool concept and now I am binging them all at once. A catchy title like "Dr.Ratio is a Fool" must be the missing ingredient to the previous videos.
Hi. I would like to say assuming that the thumbnail art is made by you is that it's very pretty! It actually captivated and compelled me to watch it even though it doesn't have much views. The art is so good as well as the composition of the thumbnail
