Some hidden dialogue implies Shadow stays dead post-SA2 which snowballs into Tails and Eggman becoming buddy-buddy, so the Ark would hold even less pleasant memories for both than usual.
@@buddeman27Basically a huge space slander created by eggmans grandfather was planning to crash into the earth with the all and destroy everything by, Sonic and shadow stopped it in time but in turn shadow had not come back from the final fight and had become (presumably) dead. In ring racers canon shadow is actually dead though
@@LordTyph shad05 retconned it so that the ark was originally meant to destroy the black comet, but when gerald went insane he programmed it to blow up the earth instead
This genuinely so much care put into the game, even a optional dialog added to a tutorial where 99% of players would never even know, not gonna lie i kinda wish we had more of this dialog outside of tutorial
Honestly, same, the tutorial gave me Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch vibes. That game takes Mega Man's legacy and basically sprinkles in (tasteful) metahumor and jokes left and right while it adapts pretty much every single Mega Man game ever released. If they'd continued the plot thread of you playing as MS-1 for the entire game and sprinkled in some story segments between GPs, I think I would have been even happier! EDIT: Aaaand I guess the RPG-style coloring of important names and terms helped too. Dang it I knew I had a bias somewhere. :P
Same here I would love more cut scenes or even more dialog in single player But sometimes I understand if it getting annoying I just wish more games would put care into dialog and the tutorial
@@EggoBoiHave a look at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1xMfCXBHXeE.html Sonic mentions a picket fence at around the 10 minute mark of AoSTH episode 2, and it's referenced again at the conclusion of the episode around 20 minutes.
same here. i actually came to look for a video with all the dialogue, because i thought tails would always mention an invention hes made with the chosen color, and then him and eggman would talk about a character with that color. thats what happens with purple and im surprised its not the "formula" for all the dialogue.
It's interesting to see that Eggman actually seems to respect Tails a fair bit, or at least can admire his mechanical genius. Also Tails calling Eggman by his first name when he insults Sonic is such a mom move lol.
The tutorial has so much life and love and lore placed in it. Despite how it doesn't teach you everything and how it was handled in v2.0; it's still one of the things that I love the most so far about Ring Racers. The dialog is well made and makes me want to see more of the interactions between the two.
Really makes you wonder how Eggman came to befriend Tails in the first place; I was wondering if it was some AU where Tails decided to go work for him after some tragic event, but the way everyone's referred to in the present tense threw that out of the window.
there was a time around the turn of the millennium when a sonic game ended with a mood shift, one of somber reflection that was rife with potential for character dynamics to change. ring racers owes a lot of its status quo to the idea that those dynamics could have changed for the better.
Finally, someone else who appreciates the writing in the tutorial! I don't see how others get bored of the tutorial when you have so many fun character interactions to read!
for what it's worth you can't see most of these unless you start a new file, so it's understandable people haven't taken the time to appreciate them. That being said I would adore having more chances for this writing.
they mean that you can't see _all_ of the dialog in this video in-game without repeatedly starting new save files--or without making a backup of your save file at the start of the controls tutorial and repeatedly replacing the new save file with it, which is what i did for this video. it takes a lil work! which is why i made the video LOL
@@CrappyBlue Are you sure? I thought they were just talking about your message at the end, where you praised the writing. So the reply I was responding to felt off-topic.
shrug. i just saw your confusion and felt like trying to alleviate it since i wasn't really confused by the comment or the exchange. i guess it's off-topic from the original reply but i understood where they were coming from
As much as I can understand some of the criticisms of the tutorial, the writing was so fun that I just had a blast the whole time. Kinda makes me wish there was some sort of story mode so we could get even more, though of course the devs have already put so much into this game that I couldn’t ask that of them
Hearing so many Sonic fans reference the picket fence line heals my soul. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who went out of her way to find Sonic material made before her time.
I absolutely adore the banter here. I really like how despite being enemies (or at least friends now for the time being) Eggman still shows his respect to Tails and Sonic, as shown with the Blue Spray Can dialogue
Man, I wish mainline Sonic games had interactions even half this endearing between characters. Like, "the hedgehog's doing something right if he raised someone like you" is already probably the most wholesome line I've seen from Robotnik, and it's not even that out of character.
The Tails and Eggman exchanges are always my favorite. You can tell Eggman has respect and even a certain fondness of Tails. They don't have the never ending banter like Sonic and Eggman, more like genius rivals who regonize eachothers' talent and can have a semi-casual conversation at times. I really liked these interactions, I hope we get more of this duo in the future!
This is what i imagine when i think about that Eggman dialogue during the credits of SA2, just him talking in a more natural way instead of just constantly going "IT'S CHAOS, THE GOD OF DESTRUCTION" or stuff like that, i just really like seeing toned down exchanges
As it happens, going through the Rings tutorial again after completing it has Tails lampshade Eggy seemingly trying to pull the same trick twice on him, though he tries to explain it away as a bug in the system this time around. Tails even lampshades that some spray cans aren't worth the tight security.
Like, it's crazy how much effort and details were put into a tutorial you may never visit after the first time. All the dialogue in it and the first boot menu are fun little conversations between Tails and Eggman that sprinkle in references to past Sonic games and other media, even recent stuff like _Prime._ Kart Krew clearly put some thought into all this (which, I suppose, is why they make you do the tutorial at first launch aside from just learning the ropes; they're just _really_ proud). Makes me wonder who amongst them wrote it. They did good.
After seeing that there was unique dialogue for picking orange, I figured there would be for every color. Was waiting for soneone to upload this, so thanks.
I love that you used other music tracks for the demo of the unique interactions. The tutorial was already full of personality from the dialogue as I played it, but having a case for collecting EVERY SPRAY CAN is just cheff kiss. Really happy you showcased all of the stuff here- I had picked up Violet first and had skipped over the dialogue Because was like "WAIT I CAN'T GO BACK" lmao, so I wondered what other options looked like. That ARK mention though. The cherry on top is the cheeky acknowledgement of the five year wait for the game in the form of that little five minutes five years quip about Metal Sonic after completing the tutorial
"the hedgehog's doing something right if he raised someone like you" i know that Eggman shows some respect to Tails in some canon games, but its still good to see it here too.
I have a lot of gripes about the tutorial, and definitely think it needs a restructuring, but the dialogue is definitely one of the key things I have ZERO complaints about. It's just really fun! That exchange for the gray can, though. Oof.
The lovely interactions from this video (plus the silly portraits) is mainly what inspired me to get this fan game on my computer. Thanks for posting this!
I KNEW someone would make a video about this as soon as I saw the dialogue in the spray can room (I picked blue for obvious reasons). Gotta love the Blaze reference for Purple.
So I was reading the description, like any good RU-vid viewer should do, and the first song name was a major shock. I recognize that artist from over a decade ago now I think, such a small world we live in. Thanks for showing off this dialogue, gonna have to look more into this game!
2:25 - 2:27 Sonic: Sorry for all the trouble, squirt. I was just trying to find you a real family. Tails: I got a real family. I got the best. Sonic: Oh yeah, where? Tails: A family is just people who care about each other more than anything else, right? Sonic: Right. Tails: You're it! You're my mom! You're my dad! *_And you're my PICKET FENCE!_*
the amount of dialogue that's present for this one room is actually crazy, not surprising, but its cool they went through the effort for that. currently on 62/100, statistics menu is a life saver, there's a couple of maps i just FORGOT to search, haha. though i haven't played past egg cup yet... i actually got the tutorial race map and spray can RIGHT before watching this, it's funny they hid one there. it'd be interesting to see a complication of all the "dev intended" methods to get the spray cans, as there are some that COMPLETELY stumped me on how to get. No idea how storm rig's spray can is supposed to be gotten, but I assume it's through another unlockable? spray cans are basically most of my unlockables atm, i only have 2 characters and one chaos emerald... i haven't really been going out of my way to complete challenges, just getting my funny colors. got that first chaos emerald at egg cup because i hadn't actually done well enough to get an a rank until then while also managing to get the emerald.
storm rig's spray can: right before you enter that building with it, there's a switch you can hit with an item that can be lobbed to the left, hit it and the gate opens up to the can
Imagine. TLDR: Eggman raises Tails and there's two "evil" 300IQ villains but Eggman also gets a fatherly complex. Why hasn't this been done yet? I'm amazed. What about a narrative where Eggman's robots "save" Miles from the [any part of his life where he was fed up with bullies, getting bullied, yet isn't the one where Sonic arrived]. Sure, Eggman is just roboticizing the bullies but let's not make Eggman mindless, now, he's not just plucking everything and throwing it into the roboticizer like an underpaid office cleaner, no, he's able to spot weird things if the boy's second tail wasn't already a red flag. Eggman would especially notice mechanical tinkering that wasn't his own. And if Eggman IS given the Mindless Card, Miles would be able to at least screw with Eggman's robots to save himself, which would alert the doctor. But I'm thinking more, Eggman roboticizes the bullies and reveals he's been observing Miles, acts all proud just to get an ally, offers mentorship and revenge, with the bullies as an example. Of course, Miles, being pure, would abhor the idea, but, with... No friends, and, everyone hating him... Well, Eggman being so supportive would lead him down the path.
So... Blue IS my favorite colour. So I got that fence line and actually thought it was sweet hearing the Dr. Mention that Sonic must be doing something right. Showing some of that respect he had in his writing from SA2.
7:51 Tails: Okay, I'm done reflecting. Tails: I'm ready for Eggman to open the door. Tails: I SAID, I'm rea-- Eggman: Oh, for the love of -- Tails, why are you still in that room? Tails: Tails: *Ivo.* Tails: *OPEN. THE DO--* Eggman: NO WONDER. Come right on through!! Whoever wrote this dialogue deserves a huge pat on the back! This is not just hilarious, it's fantastic foresight on the part of the devs!
people who love and are passionate for Sonic characters decided to spend their free time making a game about them, with no commercial incentive to interfere with that passion
got a bit jumpscared seeing it was you who made this video lol, was just done re-organizing my cassettes when i was thinking about your album i got on cassette
"I use this shade to paint the tornado!" And then you unlock a little tornado that follows your racer and its default color is a different shade of red to the one you pick here. FILTHY LIAR.
I really want to see this feature become available for AI opponents as well, for when you're playing by yourself in match race mode. This is definitely neat!
your only options are to either pick up some spray cans on the tracks, which will unlock more player colors to use, or to delete your save data file (ringdata.dat) and play the tutorial over again.
I can't believe the amount of work that went into this! You don't see racing games get this amount of attention and replayability put into- I'm sorry what did 5:47 say?
@licensedvibechecker8096 yeah. this characterization fits with a post-SA2 eggman who ended that game reflecting on the dire situation aboard the ark and the history and actions of his extended family.
