When Dr. Jaishankar talked about collective Europe it is not in terms of diversity but about mindset which europeans have toward developing countries,least developed countries and African countries, they( collective europe) behaves like it's not big deal and not gonna affect them(europe) so why to worry. What collective Europe is interested is in criticising developing countries and have done a wonderful job.

India first responsibility is to take care of its 1.4 Billion population where poverty is major issue. Is west/Europe so naive to understand this where household income is many folds more than Indian household? Why the priority of 1.4 Billion people comes second to west interest? When you say Europe is diverse than always thought of India which is much diverse in one country. In 50-100 km , dialect of language change , and in 500 km , language change. Also, Mr. Jaishankar said about Europe collectively because EU mindset about India, Asia , and rest of world is same and as you said they are bound of EU policies, not their own sovereign policies.

It is good to learn about the diverse nature of political understandings of Europe. But when we, the Indians or the global south mention about Europe, we mention as the European Union's stand on issues as a whole. When he says 'Europe collectively' he means a pro-US alliance construct of EU, of which Slovakia is a part today. His point is that this construct was silent on genocides in Bangladesh or Vietnam. First indo-china war happened in 1962, when china attacked on North and north-east Frontier of India. At that time India was not prepared for mountain war. Indian prime minister asked for military equipments from USA and Britain but they refused. USSR helped India with military supply but officially remained neutral. Europe remained silent. In the 1943 Bengal famines around 3 million people died thanks to Churchill’s policies. But not many know about this famine. In 1947 when India was partitioned at least a million people died and more than 10 million people were displaced. Pakistan was created by British to act as a buffer state between India and the then USSR. The west feared that communism would spread to India as our 1st PM Nehru was a socialist. India has suffered as much as Europe if not more. For better insights on partition please read the book “The Punjab Bloodied, Partitioned and Cleansed” by Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed.

Jaishankar is probably the best diplomat on the planet today bar none. It's good to see him put this patronising European anchor in his place. You're very right, in the West democracy and freedom of speech only goes as far as you're willing to tow the line, else you're branded / labeled as against democracy. Europe have different countries, obviously people are different even in india you will see the differences in everything from culture to language that you might not see in whole Europe. Most of India's politics comes from two main sources one is ancient Indian/Sanatan philosophy i.e. the world is one family so help whenever you can and the second is history which says never trust Western countries for anything so there are and will always be trust issues because of Western countries hypocrisy which they have shown since forever. It may sound harsh but that is a fact. For the Ukraine war, most Indians see clearly that Russia warned Ukraine not to join NATO but still Ukraine did that for its political gain or whatever, and therefore it was a self-inflected would and India made the right choice of not getting into this mess.

We also have very different opinion in our parliament too, honestly no country or continent claim to be as diverse as India 🙂
