9:00 I guess it’s probably possible be cause a new theropod dinosaur Meraxes lived 39 to 53 years old so it might be possible that maybe T. rex and other large theropods could have lived longer
I`m learning so much about Tyrannosaurs along this 4 parts Interview, keep up the good work man, this is very educative as well, Dr Carr is such a great professional who knows what he`s talking about, it`s good to know that the paleo comunity in general has a scientist like him!!
Wait...so Sue was still a young adult when she died? That was a big surprise for me. It makes you wonder what the maximum lifespan of these dinosaurs would have been.
Hey Bran :) It's an "it", not a "she", we are unable to differintiate the dimorphism yet ;) yes, it has already reached its full adult size, however given the features, it was still a young adult. Already in it's prime, but not in the mature spectre of it yet, so to speak.
If you ever get the chance to, you should bring Robert DePalma to the show! I would love to hear him talk to you about the tyrannosaurus rex tooth he found in a hadrosaur vertebrate, and his works on publishing Dakotaraptor!
Has it been published and peer reviewed? He hasnt personally seen that specimen, but if there is no publication of a study for it, then that's an extraordinary calim, which needs evidence.
There may be a chance this specimen will get studied more in future, so we have to wait and see. But what we can tell from this part of Dr Carr's interview is that "Trix" would not be considered "old" essentially, given that it is only 2 years estimated to be older than "Sue". Whether it has managed to reach it's full maturity at this point is hard to tell for me personally from the pictures. Also, is the mounted specimen a cast, or is the skull the original? Usually they have the originals separately from the mounts, but I need to make sure, so that the observation can be correct.
