The full name of Sheikh Umar friend is Shems Friedlander/ Ira Friedlander. The book is call.. "When You Hear Hoofbeats Think of a Zebra". Worth reading and amazing book to have.. Tell beautiful story of Sufi.. And it always touch my heart whenever I read it or remember the story in it. I wish I can meet Mr Friedlander one day.. Just want to hear many story from him .

I couldn't quiet understand that by "seperation of state and churh" does Shaikh mean seperation of governance and Islam as a whole or only seperation and independence of judiciary system from government? It would be very much appreciated if someone could reply it. Thanks.
Sufi..simply is some one who follow the teaching of our prophet Muhammad .SAW..who has ethical akhlak of the quran. A person who tries to practice and to live by what is in the quran. We Sufi follow our prophets sunnah and quran..and follow the proper guided Sheikh...or murshid.
Exactly. But you have to formally take baiyat to follaw a saint/ Awuliya as give lessons. Your heart to link with the heart of Murshid/Saint, whose heart linked with Rasullulla Sallalahu Alaihi Oa Sallam. His heart linked with Almighty Allah. This way you will be "Fana Filla" means submerged with Allah and not feel yourself. Enjoy the lights of Allah ( Verse -22, Sura Jumar)
