I am Jewish, my grandparents are Holocaust Survivors and my ancestors were murdered in Europe. I do think that the media/political system/culture gives too much dominance to the Holocaust narrative. I have a 2nd cousin who is 55. She was one of the 1st to be bussed to a desegregated school. She was treated horribly and mentioned it was one of the worst experiences of her life. I let my young daughter talk to her and she was absolutely speechless.

We need to teach people about how slavery has had a direct affect on the state of black people in todays time because there is a definite correlation going from slavery, Jim Crow, civil rights movement, the war on drugs and those hundreds of years that has us in this disenfranchised state some of us are in.

Slavery officially ended 52 years ago in 1970, Roland Martin broke that down on Wendy Williams show. We're experiencing the residual effects of slavery in the form of all those things that Dr. Umar just listed.

My Great Grandfather died at 97 years old...his father was enslaved. My father, Grandfather, great grandfather all worked in a tobacco field at some time in life.
