Dear Saman, this is a first class programme (probably your best one ) indeed with Dr Wijewardena. Listening to someone like Dr Wijewardena who has a unique knowledge of both financial history and finance is a real treat indeed. I believe such a programme must be considered as an educational one than anything else in which our school kids can learn a lot. Nowadays kids lack in financial discpline perhaps due to the crippling government and its bad influence surviving on debts. Much obliged once again!

The conclusion is grim at the end of interview. If so, we all need to worry about that. Is there a path to recovery? If Saman can do a discussion with a panel of economists on the topic of analysis and recovery process, that will at least help public and also the leaders (Govt, Opposition, and Public).

However I have a question for you, as you said if ancient Siri Lanka wasn’t in fact self sufficient in paddy harvest, what was the use of water they held in thousands of tanks (වැව්)? We had at least close to 50,000 tanks and you are saying we weren’t self sufficient in food ????? Mind you please go and visit Umandawa or Mr Thilak kandegama’s farms, you will understand how it’s been done. However I have to stress that present government’s policy to go organic is a wrong decision taken in a hurry which was mainly driven by lack of dollar reserves to import fertiliser.

Dr Kamal Gammampila MPhil, PhD, DIC - I have studied this crisis for 8 years. I have also analysed the WHO/GOSL 2009-13 data after the publication. I am only one of two people who has done that. I am very happy to share my knowledge with your audience.

OMG, even if I am aware of what is going to happen in Sri Lanka, this sounds even more eye opening. The sad thing is this won't reach million views, and then the message will not go across. We get more news and we have more fears about Sri Lanka, even though we live overseas. Feeling sad and worried about the country and the people.

Pity that he didn't advise the previous govt. s during his tenure as a Deputy governor! Why couldn't he prevent his present predictions thro the many TV discussions he had during his office?

අද බොහෝ දෙනෙක් දරන මතයක් නම් නිදහස ලබන විට අප ආසියාවේ ඉතා ඉදිරියෙන් සිටි ජාතියක් බව. නමුත් සැබවින්ම එදා රටේ මිනිසුන්ගෙන් 90% වඩා ජීවත් වුයේ ගම්බදව, පහසුකම් ඉතා අඩු කටුක පරිසරයකයි. එදා මිනිසෙකුගේ සාමාන්‍ය ආයු කාලය වුයේ වසර 50 ක් පමණයි. වර්තමානයේ මිනිසෙකුගේ ආයු කාලය වසර 77 දක්වා ඉහල ගොස් ඇත. එය පසු ගිය වසර 70 තුල අධ්‍යාපන සහ සෞක්‍ය ක්ෂේස්ත්‍රයේ ඇතිවූ ප්‍රගතිය හේතුවුවා විය හැක. එදා මෙන් නොව, අද රටේ සෑම ප්‍රදේශයකටම විදුලිය සහ ප්‍රවාහන පහසුකම් ලැබී තිබේ. එසේ බලූ කල, නිදහසින් පසු රටේ කිසිම ප්‍රගතියක් ඇති නොවුවා යයි කිව හැක. රටේ යුද්ධ සහ කැරලි නොතිබුනානම් මීට වඩා ප්‍රගතියක් ඇති වීමට ඉඩ තිබිණි.

Lot of Sri Lankans never appreciate the things Britain given to us. Our politicians and locals continue to miss-manage our country and failed to build on those strengths. 1. we kicked out our British relatives (best managers of economy left the country); 2. we chose two backward languages instead of one international language (this downgrade our labour force too); 3. discouraged Sri Lankan entrepreneurship in 1960s; 4. Nationalised every business and make generation of peasants who work only for govt.; 5. premature embarkation to market liberalisation; 6. take foreign currency loans to develop countries roads and internal assets; 7. sell off country strategic assets to world powers. This behaviour is no different to having two drunken Sri Lankan parents! Until government give back the power and control of the economy to its people we are not going anywhere. At least follow Chinese economic policies if you need an example. First of all this idiotic president must be kicked out!
