Rather weird after all these years but still a great find! CRT technology now looks very out of date despite it only really going away in the last 10 years.
If only the Tardis Chameleon circuit had used a Mullard tube then it may have functioned properly. But then we would not have been stuck with the brilliant blue police box we have now. So in that case god bless the Galefreyan engineers for using cheap Chinese components.
Hmmm, so sad to see this from a once great company... if ever an industry need a 'sonic screw driver' it was then; was it a "whimper or a bang"? Mullard tubes have become the holy grail for those that still require a quality vacuum tube in high end HiFi and quality guitar amps. Thankfully, I got mine... and an Avo to test them on.
Funny, I never thought of John Pertwee as having a career before Dr Who, and I certainly don't know what his career was like afterwards. Oh well, time for Google!
He was also in the extremely popular radio comedy series The Navy Lark playing three characters alongside Leslie Philips and Ronnie Barker amongst others for seven year's till the mid 1960s. He did lots of things pre and post Dr Who and W Gummidge including this very interesting promo film for Mullard .
Mullard valves developed by this awful Hollandl firm Philips. Philips made the parts, they were then exported and assembled by Mullard in the uk. Philips got it´´s grubby maulers on most of the european Vacuum tube biz. for E.G. Telefunken,Valvo, Tungsram,, Mullard to Name a few.
Mullard, although owned by Phillips were run as a separate entity and produced valves from scratch. They also developed their own products independently in the UK, a good example being the ubiquitous EL34. There was a lot of cross fertilisation between manufacturers, with valves being made by one company and being branded as another to fill gaps in product range.
