The end of series 3 made me cry when the doctor held the master in his arms begging him to regenerate while this soundtrack is playing. Really emotional scene.
Alex Crane I hope he does. I highly doubt it though because he said he didn't really get on with the people working there and didn't like their way of doing things. I hope the show gets to 100, that'd make me so proud!
"Well perfect to look at, maybe. And it was. It was beautiful. Used to call it the “Shining World of the Seventh System”. And on the continent of Wild Endeavor, in the mountains of Solace and Solitude, there stood the Citadel of the Time Lords. The oldest and most mighty race in the universe. Looking down on the galaxies below. Sworn never to interfere, only to watch. Children of Gallifrey, taken from their families age of eight, to enter the Academy. Some say that’s where it all began… when he was a child. That’s when The Master saw Eternity. As a novice he was taken for initiation. He stood in front of the Untempered Schism. It’s a gap in the fabric of reality, through which can be seen the whole of the vortex. You stand there, eight years old, staring at the raw power of time and space, just a child. Some would be inspired, some would run away, and some would go mad." such a poetic quote.
I wonder how the 6th doctor would felt with that descripction, after all he was pretty dissgusted with the time lords, i believe those resentments go as far as his third incarnation. But i wonder, how the doctor reflected of his punishment and mistreat by the time lords once Gallifrey was gone?
@@tomasalbertotorresmurillo9392 I wouldn't say the Doctor hates the Time Lords and Gallifrey, but more like he hated their strict rules and authority. The Time Lords were very much a political society and very disciplined, not being allowed to interfere with the progression of the universe at the height of their power, unless the whole of creation was threatened, like with the Time War against the Daleks. And the Doctor disagreed with their belief not to interfere and only to watch. He wanted to see things for himself up close and not watch from a distance, and thought why waste the technology of the TARDIS by not using it. The Doctor was very much a free and rebelious spirit, like we all have been in our youth. This causes the Time Lords to disapprove of him, and this causes the Doctor to clash with them. I think it's best to compare it to those relatives some people have who disapprove of their profession and job or life decisions and bring it up repeatedly. You still care about them but damn are they frustrating and annoying. But destroying his home planet and his people in the name of peace and sanity, to save creation from the Time Lords gone mad as well as the Daleks plan to exterminate all life despite all they have put him through would still be unbearable. He knew what he did was the only option back then, that there was no other way, but he still never forgave himself. How could you justify two genocides on your conscious? Especially if your chosen name is the Doctor, a man of healing. Keep in mind, all we ever see are the Time Lords high council and Time Lords within the Citadel. There were many innocent Gallifreyans on Gallifrey who were not Time Lords and had no say in choices made. The Doctor believed he killed them too, he believed he killed his whole remaining family. But back on point, when someone you cared about has died, you don't tend to talk ill of the dead or remember the bad, you reminisce of the good. This is what the Doctor does, he may have taken Gallifrey for granted before, but now that it is gone, he really appreciates all that was good about it. Wishing perhaps just once he could return there and have a final look.
Chris Chibnal: Here, let me destroy everything the 50th anniversary special accomplished. Then I'll run the Cartmel Master Plan through Google Translate...And of course, they've all got to check off the proper identity boxes. And then I'll see if I can make some Big Important Political Statement to cross that off the grocery list...Are we sure that old man *wasn't* some splinter identity of War Doctor?
@@Millez Sure. Here it is. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GjTjZ9pCmMA.html It's one of the scenes from the last episode of Doctor Who series 12. The scene that made everyone so angry.
"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold."
TV before Netflix and Disney+! Believe you me, nothing, just nothing could touch Doctor Who back then. The music was such a stunning reason why: powerful, sophisticated...heart-wrenching
Murray Gold actually came back for the new season!! a version of this song is played in Space Babies when The Doctor talks about Gallifrey, which is the reason i'm here haha. it really pulled at my heart strings, hearing it again
This piece is full of movements, almost like a story. The first part that plays until 0:57 represents the planet going to war, then the more peaceful part takes us back in time to before the Time War and shows the beauty of Gallifrey. The section that begins with the music swelling at 1:45 is the Doctor's childhood, running through fields of red grass under a burnt orange sky; it represents innocence. Then at 2:37 it returns to echo the opening bars, back to the Time Lords going to battle, and leading to the actual violence of the Time War.
THE JEDI-WHOVIAN GUY 101 I've told other people this, who tell me I'm overthinking things, but as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as overthinking in Doctor Who
War Doctor: Gravity falls, no more *hears that the show ended* War Doctor: YES!!! ITS OVER NOW, ALONSY!!! Tenth Doctor: .......... War Doctor: ..... too soon? Tenth Doctor: Yep *nods*
imagine, all 13 doctors standing under gallifreys sun...with this song playing. I'm in tears just thinking about it. it would the most beautiful thing ever. the doctor finally back home...
Galiffrey Falls..NO MORE! and yes Lorel, very perceptive. Gallifrey does indeed have 2 suns. My mistake for leaving an 's , unfortunatly I was rather engrossed in the music and the imagery. Good Day Marm, and don't rest on your 'Lorels', any time soon ;)
The Doctor stepped out of the TARDIS, his hearts pounding loudly in his ears. Even after all these years, he still recognized it. The slight spring of the red grass, wet with dew. The mountains, stretching like castles into the sky, stood tall and proud, white snow gracing their peaks. The trees bowed softly in the wind, the silver leaves dancing. And there it was. The mighty citadel of the Timelords. The twin suns of Gallifrey flashed on the dome, a seamless piece of cut glass. Tears sparkled in the Doctor's eyes as he looked around, breathing in the faintly scented air. He was home.
'Have you ever thought about what it's like to be wanderers in the fourth dimension? Have you? To be exiles? Susan and I are cut off from our own planet, without friends or protection. But one day, we shall get back.' Looks like they finally could. :3
somehow, with no lyrics, this song explains what a beautiful planet gallifrey was, how powerful the time lords were, why the doctor misses gallifrey and how much of a monster the doctor was when he destroyed the planet, and all with not a single word, wow
BBC one, Saturday night, 7:00, anticipating another heart stopping instalment of Doctor Who. Sat with my family to watch David Tennant work his magic. God i really really miss those days. There's nothing better in this world when you literally 'feel' a memory and you suddenly get a clear picture in your head of what you were doing that day, your surroundings, the people you were with. You can feel it in your heart. Definitely want this beautiful song played at my funeral.
Gallifrey both rose and fell, it fell at "the end of time" when the tenth doctor stopped its return and rose in "the day if the doctor " when all the doctors saved it
2:10 Blimey, this part makes me imagine The Doctor and The Master in their childhood. Enjoying life and innocence on the majestic planet that is Gallifrey. If only they had known what adventures lay ahead of them...
Lords and Ladies of every age wouldn't you like to see something strange? "Come with me" and you will see, this is the planet of Gallifrey. This is Gallifrey! this is Gallifrey! Daleks scream in the dead of night. This is Gallifrey! Holding Daleks right at bay! Manipulate time till the aliens scream of fright! It's our planet! Defeat the Daleks, hooray! On this planet of Gallifrey! I am the one who crashed into your shed. Apples taste rubbish, yogurt turns my head. I am the one who fell down on the street, I'm the fan favourite, quite a big feat. This is Gallifrey! This is Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! On this planet that we call home! Everyone hail to the Doctor's long song! On this planet, don't we love it now? Everybodies waiting for some more Dalek cries! Round that corner, Dalek like an old tin can! Something's waiting now to pounce how you'll... Slay! This is Gallifrey! Daleks are our only prey. Aren't you scared? Well that's just fine. Say it once. Say it Twice. Take a chance and roll dice. Ride through time in a blue TARDIS Daleks will all pay! Daleks will all pay! On our home of Gallifrey! I'm the Doctor I ride through time and space! Changing in a flash then I've gone and changed my face! I am the who when you call "Doctor Who?" I'm the TARDIS that is really quite blue. I'm the Master in the dead of night! I scare you just by mere sight! This is Gallifrey! This is Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Dalek shells scattered everywhere. Destroying them all, not showing fear! That's out job and that's our way! On our home of Gallifrey! Lord Rassilon might zap you in the back! He'll make you plea! Make you burdened with immortality! This is Gallifrey! We will all make you say! No More! Just watch the TARDIS fly! This is Gallifrey! This is Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! Gallifrey! On the planet that we call home. Everyone hail to the Doctor's long song.
If you listen carefully you can tell that the song is telling a story. The calm at the beginning shows the Time lord's peaceful rule of only observing but as the music becomes increase intense and aggressive it shows they have become darker, then the music goes back to normal to show that have paused to look upon the universe.
At last, we're going to see Gallifrey. Gallifrey at its worst, bleeding from the Time war, bloodthirsty Daleks, insane Timelords, the majesty of an ancient city falling into shreds and one Doctor paying the greatest price to save the day.
can't wait to see david and billie back on screen along with JOHN HURT but it makes me wonder if the master could escape the time war since he took himself and rassilon back to galifrey
Well, it might not be in that episode but I'm sure they'll find a way for the Master to come back. That guy can't seem to be able to stay dead or locked away for long.
For some reason, I love 1:18. It's a beautiful solo. And the rising crescendo at 1:47 is gorgeous. Not to mention 1:55, and the bit at 2:11 where it turns into a sweet little childlike melody, and then that dark moment at 2:27, and - oh heck, I love it all!
This is no longer a song of tragedy. This is a song of hope, hope that somewhere among the stars is home. The Doctor's home, his childhood. All those billions of children, they didn't die. On the other hand, neither did Rassilon and the evil Time Lords.
@@ZondaFRoadster Eh, they'll be back someday. The thing with Doctor Who is that it changes continuity so often that it just goes back to status quo, which in this case is a good thing.
I cannot think of any other TV show (including you, GoT) that would have as brilliant music as Doctor Who. Hell, most films don't have such intricate, complex, varied, emotinal and effective scores as Doctor Who. We are really blessed to have this.
+abie pratama Between the events of New Who (9th Doctor and afterwards) And Classic Who, The Last Great Time War occurred, causing the Doctor's home world to be lost. But because of the events of the 50th anniversary special, Gallifrey returned... kind of. It's hard to say where it is but fans want the current Doctor to find it. So to answer you question, the reason the older ones never needed to "find" it was because it wasn't gone and destroyed then.
+AnonBrony well we know where it is... in a pocket universe but the doctor cant seem to find it, me thinks missy knows where it really is and just hiding it, because the master got sent back with the times lords in the end of time part 2. so she must know where and how to get to it.
Let's face it, Gallifrey and the time lords were so much cooler when they were dead. Post time war Doctor had some real depth behind his character. He was the last survivor of the mightiest race in the universe, the one who ended the greatest war in all of time and space and still had to live with the consequences. There's nothing like that in current DW which is why the show is failing. I mean they couldn't drag out the time war stuff forever but they're going to have a hell of a job coming up with an arc that can match it.
Agreed, the older episodes dont have the same feel for me now at all and I think it really detracts from the stories of the 9th and 10th doctor in particular. Because none of what they felt was even real, it was all just in their heads basically.
Except Batman's parents can't be brought back, but Gallifrey can. Even if it hadn't happen in the 50th, it would happen eventually. So stop complaining about what was always meant to happen.
+Ionut Maris See this is where I completely disagree and think old who purists fall flat by assuming everything in old who was better by default The Time Lords themselves were really damn boring in classic who. Just a bunch of stuffy old men who showed up every now and then to be pretentious and bland. The myth of the Time Lords created after they died in new who painted a completely different picture than what we actually saw in the classic series.
***** They are been said that there is a new Doctor Generation like if Peter Capaldi is now The last of his Doctor Generation or he is the first of the newest generation in wich he would probably regenerating in the second doctor.. I guess the first is more common but..
It is amazing to me that two of the absolute best songs in the show (All The Strange Strange Creatures and this masterpiece) are within like ten minutes of each other in the same episode.
I was born in October 2004, when doctot who came back my mum put me as a baby in front of the tv when doctor who was on, I've loved it ever since, now I'm 15 and still share the same love for the show, 10th was my doctor, I want to bring up kids with the same passion I have with the show, and don't worry, doctor who will never die, I'll never let that happen.
@@melwugon3687 It was never stated, just referenced as an idea. It also doesn't fit the profecy as they didn't "stand on the ruins on Gallifrey" and "break a million hearts to heal its own". The Master in the timeless child fits into both of those requirements. Being a Time Lord with the Cyberium, therefore having a bit of Cyberman in him. Hell, it could also mean the Cybermasters as they actually are a full half Time Lord half Cyberman. It's kinda just left ambiguous for people to theorize about.
@@DoctorWestmarch Steven Moffat actually said it was his intention. Also, the hybrid being the Doctor and Clara would explain "break a million hearts to heal its own" part. The doctor died billions of times in the confession dial in order to heal the heart of the hybrid and bring back Clara
The Curator : Gallifrey falls no more Chris Chibnall : Gallifrey stands no more. Gallifrey is doctor's childhood no more. Gallifrey is doctor's home no more. Please, chibnall, *NO MORE!!*
Curator: What do you think of the title? 11: Which title? Gallifrey falls or No more Curator: You see that’s where everyone gets it wrong. It’s all one title. Gallifrey falls NO MORE. Now what do you think of that? Chibnall: You see thats where everyone gets it wrong. Its all one title. NO! Gallifrey Falls MORE! 11 and the Curator: Wait, what?!
The best pieces of music have words, even when you can't hear them. "Gallifrey....Gallifrey...Gallifrey." The word is repeated over and over through the middle portion of this, a call for something lost but not forgotten, a memory more pure than what the reality was, but no less valid for it.
Gallifrey, my dead home. Oh, it's still out there, among the stars, lost in time, I'm just taking the long way round. Aways have, always will. Because the Earth still needs saving.
If Doctor Who ever ends, which it should definitely not, in the last episode they best find Gallifrey, and The Doctor should become king, and he should take all of his old companions who are still with is there with him. I really hope it gets to 100 years, that'd make me so proud :')
***** they gave him just a new regeneration cycle that he can save gallifrey .I think they will banned him(or not not-banned him) cause he broke so much rules and remember what happened to the master in "the end of time " they need him to bring back gallifrey and after this they wanted to kill him ( sorry for the bad englisch)
I stepped out of the tardis, my hearts pounding loudly in his ears. Even after all these years, I still recognized it. The slight spring of the red grass, wet with dew. The mountains, stretching like castles into the sky, stood tall and proud, white snow grazing their peaks. The trees bowed softly in the wind, the silver leaves dancing. Tears sparkles in my eyes as I looked around, breathing in the faintly scented air. I was home.
Doctor who with RTD and the old team and actors was something else. The music made you feel something and the storylines were all so good. This music especially just is the doctor and gallifrey for me. Wish we could have kept DW the same :(
To be fair, the scripts themselves aren't actually that bad. It's just the storylines and structure that can sometimes be a bit off. You're right about the soundtracks, tho.
Kyra Lexmond We wear silly pink clothes all day, because we are from Gallifrey! (Seriously google "time lords" adn there's an image of a dude in pink that makes my life.)
Damian Fate Not really it IS gone just it is still there it sits still in time and space still there so all the doctor has to do is release gallifrey from the painting
I always listen to this song when I do my homework. I'm glad I discovered a twelve hour version, as sometimes I'm doing homework for six hours at a time. This piece of music fills me with courage and motivates me to finish my work. Such a beautiful song.
Yeah, also that it's a different composer. I don't get why people think this tune should always play for Gallifrey, just like in Spyfall and Heaven Sent/Hell Bent. If they don't put this music on, then there's a perfectly good reason for that.
Galaxy TARDIS yeah I'm not saying his writing is all bad, I mean he wrote some of the episodes I love like the empty child and the girl in the fireplace, but as he wernt the main writer he would have had help. But yeah. I just don't find that the newer series exite me as much
This is Gallifrey. The city that created a million dreams. The city that appears in your visions, a beautiful glass domed city. And this is how it ends.
After years of watching, This is Gallifrey returned on tonight's episode of Doctor Who called "Extremis" I've waited so long to hear it in an episode again!
