What can you do with a PIPER SARATOGA IITC. How can one upgrade this aircraft model - painfully discontinued and no longer in production nevertheless a great travel aircraft for family and business or mixed - and up to what extent?
PROPELLERS - As far as we could get when we researched the aircraft related STC`s, the OEM HARTZELL CONSTANT SPEED propeller is the only one. Though a SCIMITAR HARTZELL or MT-PROPELLER 4 BLADE SCIMITAR would not only look great but improve performance as well.
The featured aircraft has CAV SYSTEMS`TKS PACKAGE installed.
That is a good item.
The featured aircraft boasts all standard exterior lights so here is where WHELEN AEROSPACE`s LED lights will shine.
In terms of aerodynamical upgrades, well two brands stand out with STC`s for the SARATOGA II TC: KNOTS2U and PRECISE FLIGHT. More about that in the video.
In terms of AVIONICS, the aircraft has a standard early panel with the G1000 NON Xi and S-TEC FIFTY FIVE X autopilot (GENESYS).
Here there are 2 large upgrade options. Again, watch the video and you will find out what we have in mind for this aircraft and any other SARATOGA II TC for that matter.
The aircraft has an overall 8/10 score for us. It is well maintained and has a good condition of paint and interior but again, we are in 2024 nearly 2025 and this aircraft deserves a makeover in that department as well. Though we have concentrated on the AERODYNAMICS, EXTERIOR LIGHTS and the AVIONICS. We are much more into TXi than G1000. We prefer personally the touchscreen intuitive user friendly interface to knobturning and button pushing.
Talking about buttons, we think the cockpit would have better functionality and aspect with KORRY PUSHBUTTON SWITCHES doing away with the ROCKER SWITCHES. The KORRY 389 pushbuttons have smaller size than the rocker switches so it saves space on the panel apart from the fact that you can INTEGRATE them into your new CUSTOM CNC CUT panel and have them FLUSH MOUNTED with your panel surface as if they were embedded.
