Just occasionally, science lucks out and something is preserved to this extent. And our understanding of the earliest life on earth takes a big jump forward. I love this stuff so much.
I was so excited to hear you talking about my home! I've never hiked to the top of the Sandia Mountains, though I've ridden the tram up there a few times. The story of the shark skeleton found up there has always fascinated me. Thank you for covering it!
In another lifetime I was a mermaid, and was eaten by a shark. I've always wondered if it was this particular shark, since in this lifetime I live at the base of the mountain it was found on.
I remember when Draco didn’t even have a name, he was just “Godzilla Shark”. Also, I did some research and found that the coastal areas near where Dracopristis swam were ABSOLUTELY FILLED WITH COCKROACHES! All sizes and shapes of roaches, among other bugs and maybe medium-sized synapsids.
Okay, note to self, next time sleep before watching a video here xD Doesn't help that I am just an interested random person without any paleontology background xD But thanks for the video regardless!
I have a fairly close network of people who I work with who occasionally help me with finding sources, and, although hard, can be done by you as well if you know some of the key words relating to the taxa you want to cover. Wikipedia and especially Google Scholar are incredibly useful in making videos. Almost all the time it takes me to make a video is through research.
Hi again. I have had a idea of part of why your info might be hard to digest. You are chaining your sentences together and putting lots of information together in one sentence that keeps the brain from cataloging the information because it gets to the end of the sentence and can not remember the whole sentence to process and store the information. (this sentence is an example of what I mean.) If there are not breaks and pauses in the ideas, based on their relevance to one another, then it makes it harder to process the information. You should use carefully words that connect things together: and, that, because, therefore, so, which means, however, or (I wonder what percentage of your script is made up of these) Your sentence: "The term shark HOWEVER, is not a means of taxonomic classification, AS chondrichthyes OR cartilaginous fish AND their ancestors themselves, have been around since the silurian AND possibly even the ordovician OR at least 420 million years AND have adapted to a range of ecological niches AND developed a wide set of body plans." My quick rewrite: “The term shark is not a means of taxonomic classification! Chondrichthys, or cartilaginous fish and their ancestors, have been around since the silurian and possibly even the ordovician. Which means they have been around for possibly 420 Million years! In that time they have adapted to a range of niches which resulted in a wide set of body plans.” My reasoning: (BTW chunking/chaptering might help too) Using however is confusing because you have not mentioned shark yet so how can you be modifying what you are saying about the term? It simply does not need to be there. “Contrary to public perception the term shark is not a means of taxonomic classification!” Might get across more what I think you were going for? An emphasis on the end of that sentence and a breath for the next would help it flow I think. Option two for the second sentence “Chondrichthyes or cartilaginous fish and their ancestors, to which sharks belong, have been around since the silurian and possibly even the ordovician.” I don’t think that it is necessary to mention sharks again as the visuals are about sharks and we just mentioned them so it should imply that is what we are still talking about sharks. Specifying that you are interpreting the information gives the listener time to try to remember/associate the periods in their head before you give more information and puts an emphasis on the point I think you were trying to emphasize, which is that they have been around a long time and so are super diverse. (which leads into the last part of this chunk.) Again assuming the climax of this chunk is that they have been around a long time and are very diverse because of it, I restate “in that time”. I threw out ecological niches as I feel it is redundant because it would be the assumed niche we are talking about because of the topic. (BTW the concept of this sentence could be a video in of itself) Just some thoughts to hopefully give you ides. I might be off base but I thought I could help with clarity.
I stopped watching your channel which i really like because I've seen your surveys and thought you only made bird content now. You may have inadvertently alienated a big portion of fan base not by making bird videos but by only posting bird polls in community tab - all of polls get shared and makes it seem like you changed to a bird only channel. I'm glad i decided to check for my self and realized i was wrong
I just looked at views and it takes approx 30 bird videos to equate views of one video of literally any other type of animal. I'm sure you've noticed that
Definitely not! I was quite busy during that period, and so I could only really afford to work on smaller videos at that point. I've got a lot more free time to work on longer videos now. I'll post updates about the channel from time to time, but NZBOTW does take up most of it due to the nature of its production. I'll be sure to add more paleontology/zoology updates on there though to spice it up.
@@SoulDelSol And yes, I've noticed. The thing is, it's a finite series, so I'll be done with it sometime by early 2023 if all goes well. I put them together because I have a great passion for the subject, and that, view wise, much of it comes from other videos, so I can usually afford to put the time into making them.
@@HenrythePaleoGuy i really like your other content and it's clearly something your passionate about. So I'll check out a few bird videos. I hope i wasn't offensive and if so i apologize
Still doing that old school red line in the thumbnail for clicks. I'm looking at a Joe Rogan thumbnail with no red in it and it has 10 million views...
