Dracula is the only piece of classic literature I have ever read from beginning to end and I must say it gave me the creeps! I can only imagine what it must have done to its Victorian contemporaries who had not been desensitized by movies.
Well said! I also often try to imagine truly experiencing works of art (and other phenomena) for the first time as those contemporaries experienced them. Almost impossible to do, but very interesting! Do try some other classics! Have you tried Orwell? A modern classic I guess but certainly worth your time!
I am dyslexic, and I have a terrible time with words, but I love books, literature, and reading. I appreciate very much your reading of this. Thank you.
Giving a great book a great voice. Bram Stoker would be proud and grateful! Thank you for bringing Dracula to the people in a most sincere manner, Steven! Also, impressed to tears by all the accents and voice shiftings to impersonate the characters. True art.
Poor Arthur has his dad’s funeral, Lucy’s mom’s and Lucy’s all on same day? How awful. Plus it’s great to hear this while ‘seeing’ the Coppola movie in one’s head!
Thank you so so so much for putting in the immense amount of effort that it must have taken to record all of this. Absolutely worth waiting in between uploads. I love all the different voices you do and you're keeping me company during this lonely time of quarantine. Would you consider doing a reading of White Fang or Call Of The Wild? They're my favourite Jack London books from childhood, and I feel you'd really do them justice with your wonderful emotive style. Thanks again xxx
as i was listening to the portion where they went into lucy's tomb, my phone rang. the ring tone is a loon crying out, resembling howling of wolves. made me jump so high! good thing i was reclined in a bed so the landing was soft. i absolutely love your work.
So glad part 2 and 3 are already uploaded, as I couldn't imagine the suspense waiting lol, enjoying this so much, another peaceful night listening to your awesome rendition
I feel I have to complain… since starting the first part I have not been able to concentrate on anything else and been constantly thinking on how I can continue listening ! This is terrible ! Terrible because you read so well and act so well the voices that one feels right in there with the rest of the characters so I’m useles in my work now - I can’t concentrate … I need to listen to the rest !!! Thank you 🙏 ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks. What a marvellous, compelling job you have done reading/ enacting this book. A great comfort to me. I so enjoyed your "The Secret Garden". What a talent you have. Best of health and much happiness to you.
Fabulous narration. I just can’t believe people were this…talkative back then. Now a days people only use like a third of the dialogue in their sentences
Also the story conceit that these people are writing this verbosely in and amongst the events themselves is laughable. Lucy: i have barely the strength to write... Also lucy: writes a 15 pages detailed memorandum of what happened the night her mother died.
Thank you. Parts 1 and 2 made an otherwise dull day of decorating highly enjoyable. I can't wait to pick up my paint roller tomorrow morning just so I can listen to part 3.
I have that feelings mix when you like some novel or film and want to watch it till the end, but at the same time don't want it to end ! The novel's excitment grows more and more with each chapter .. it is amazing ! About your reading .. you are very talented voice actor ! Really WOW ! Thank you so much
I’m reading Dracula for a literature class, and with how busy this semester has been it’s been impossible to have time to sit down and read. I am SO glad I found your audiobook, you do such an amazing job of bringing the story to life and I am so wrapped up in it!!!
I really dig the extra touches such as echo or muffled voices from talking between doors and suchlike. The whole reading is top-notch. Thanks for the immense effort that this recording must have required.
Great Narration! I listened to part 1 while working on refinishing a furniture piece. Before I knew it, I was done with my task and part 1! Time flies when you're enjoying every second! Thanks for sharing your talents with the world!
I have difficulty reading a book nowadays. Even when the book is in large print it's not easy. My special treat that I save until I go to bed at night is to listen to your reading of Dracula. You make the characters come alive. I hardly notice the fact that you're actually reading. You put such true emotion into every character's words. I first listen to you read The secret garden. I believe I'll try you are reading of Sherlock Holmes next. Thank you for the hard work you put in to read these great classics beautifully!
I heard an abridged version a few years back but your unabridged version is quite simply sensational! The voices you conjure up took me totally into the story and I could see the characters. I also liked the use of music and hearing the pages being turned which gave me - the listener a feeling that I was being read to personally. Bravo!
I laughed so hard when he asked to cut off Lucy’s head. If I was in that room I would surely give him my fist. Van needs to start explaining himself better 😂
This helped me read parts of this novel for my film and lit class a few semesters ago. I absolutely loved it, but I didn't have the time while I was in college to continue reading. Now that I've graduated, my job allows me to listen to things a lot of the time. It's been wonderful listening this way, and I'm very excited to finish this book for the first time!
How apt is this first chapter (?); woke up out of accord, of my own accord, unwanted, and Steven comes through. Man, you are known for your timing, in more ways than one. Thanks, as always. A truly perfect reading of a perfect book.
This is truly a great narration and the voices are very captivating. Thank you for making this product. I also appreciate the sound of the page turning, somehow it makes it seem like a personal one on one reading.
I'm pretty sure I've seen just about every vampire movie that's ever been made, yet never read Mr. Stoker's book. I was looking for something to listen to while working on various Christmas gifts and projects. The richness of "the rest of the story" has been a pleasure and I've really enjoyed listening to this. Not sure I'd have the patience for reading it, so thank you for uploading this audio version!
Ugh. Mena (Mina?) is even worse, if possible. “Last night I had a scary dream just like the one Lucy described. I would tell the men, but I don’t want them to be worried.”
i can’t thank you enough for these videos!!!! i’ve had so much FUN?? reading my summer reading book and you’re an amazing audio reader :-)) thank you so much
Beautifully read. I really enjoyed the different voices and accents. Didn't want it to end. Thank you for voicing this and bringing the story to life. X
This is *the* most amazing audiobook reading I've ever listened too. You give the story such life. You make one feel as though they are actually witnessing all of this- like a fly on the wall. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
@@redfoxvoice cool i'm definitely looking forward to it.. i enjoyed the dracula series on netflix last week, and now i'm on a dracula kick having never read the original, and i got lucky to find your series right off the "bat" lol.. cheers
I am enjoying your narration immensely. Thanks for sharing your work. While I read Dracula many years ago, and meant to read it again soon, it was much more pleasurable to hear it read in your varied voices. Great, thanks. Keep up the good work.
Bravo, my friend! This is great. I've been listening to this every night for the last 3 or 4 nights. Your voice is dare I say on the same level as every one's favorite narrator, the always fashionable Morgan Freeman. The only down side is I keep saying things to me wife like; "Oh Jennifer, I'm dreadfully tired." It gets worse. Around my buddies I keep saying "Fancy!" (in a British accent of course) instead of "awesome". Like the other day when we were watching the Red Sox. I was like, "holy sh*t! did you see that fu**ing "Fancy" (in a British accent don't forget) catch!?! Just doesn't have the same ring to it. And my buddies stopped hanging out with me. 😢
When he does the voice for Van Helsing it sounds like Edward from the League of Gentleman and it's made all the more entertaining for me because of this

I am again hugely impressed by Stoker's exhilarating and surprisingly modern writing. As I've said before, I genuinely feel silly for never having read this book until now! It is easy to form a preconception of what you think a book will be like, particularly a story and character so famous, a character too that is so often parodied. However, becoming immersed in the original writing has brought new life to this most iconic of vampires. - Please do take a moment to share your thoughts, feelings and favourite moments! Have you perhaps developed a favourite character over the course of this haunting, yet wonderful story? Look out for new chapters coming soon... there are only 8 to go! READ TO YOU SOON!
Hi. You are a very talented. Entertainer. You do all the characters voices perfectly, rread flawlessly, sound quality great, and the 🎶 o between parts is a nice touch. 🙂💞💨
Oooh, god you're wonderful. I have insomnia and I barely heard a FUCKING word of it last night. Fabulous! I'll be giving it the respect you deserve and listen fully conscious today though 😜 Thank you, Steven 🖤
Awesome! I used to read this book every five years from 12 yrs old. That being said, the dread you evoke in this reading gives me even greater appreciation!!! One question, I can't remember how Van Helsing knows what Dracula is???
Van Helsing heard of the vampire through historical documents and folk legends. He said he was very skeptical but consulted with a colleague for sources when Lucy's case alarmed him.
Amazing work. The tone of voice, the inflections, truly wonderful. The only issue I found was the speed of the reading. at 1.25% speed it's almost perfect. But all in all it's a wonderful reading and I truly enjoyed it.
