Components of the Dräger SCBA Ensemble
Proven components and worn by thousands of Firefighters worldwide, the Dräger SCBA receives updates to meet the 2018 Edition of NFPA 1981 and 1982. Announced on September 30, 2019, the 2018 Edition requires some changes to the Dräger SCBA.
Update to the connection between the lung-demand valve (LDV) and full-face mask
The lung-demand valve (also called the regulator) includes two buttons on either side where it fits into the full-face mask. The 2013 Edition contained a single button on the mask itself. The buttons operate independent of one another, but both must be pressed simultaneously in order to unlock the LDV from the mask. The new collar housing for the buttons serve as a guide to make it easier to fit the LDV into the mask’s connector.
Pneumatics operate at a greater temperature range
The remarkable engineering in the pneumatics received improvements that allows the SCBA to operate at a greater range of temperatures.
Universal connectors on the Buddy Breather
Although a Universal Emergency Breathing Supply System (UEBSS) - better known as the Buddy Breather - is not required, it’s an option that many Fire Departments choose to include. The Buddy Breather allows two Firefighters to share a single air source. Although not a significant change for Dräger, NFPA certification to the 2018 edition of the standard required all manufacturers to use the same male and female connectors that Dräger has been using for many years.
