Today Jim & the draft horses are disking the field where we just had our tiling job done!! It is a tricky job and he is doing things a little differently so that the horses are separated over the furrow. We also wanted to share some exciting news... Bree is weaned!! Jim shares a little more about the process in this video.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Jim is so knowledable and what a great idea to fix the field. Jim must be happy to be able to start mix and matching his horses again to get all horses working. Old Ken working with everybody. The cow who got the close up is so cute, and wanted to be a youtube star. :)

Ken as I have often said is, in my opinion magnificent looking, that shiny black coat and his size is impressive, but when you see lady and Ken working together, it is not only a thing of unison along with Jim guiding them, but one that just makes me think of a wonderful creator who gave us these wonderful animals to work for us. Thank you for the video. Lovely pictures of the pond at sunset.

Nice little cow interlude there in the middle of the video 😊. I imagine walking directly on the trench is probably not very fun so once the horses figured out they had enough space to each walk on their own side they were probably more than happy to do so. Horses are pretty good about picking the safe path

Jim, you have master problem solving skills! You figure things out and use what you have. You have the best trained horses I've ever seen. And Brenda, you are one spry, beautiful lady, wife, helper, videographer, companion, mom, cook, housekeeper, child of God! ❤ Do I get my free calendar? Lol 😂😂😂 Seriously, I love you both! Keep these wonderful videos coming! I anxiously await the next one!! God bless!!!

Jim, Ken, and Lady did a great job filling in the trenches. Compaction with rain and snow over the winter will really help. Loved the curious cow moment and the beautiful sunset shots of the cabin. And Bree is already a champ with the weening. Fall is definitely upon you in upstate NY.

I agree with M. I watched another guys video who ran a big outfit who put horsemen down for handling foals, fillies and colts. I watched him trick an un handled young horse into a crush between a wall and an iron gate to vaccinate and worm it. The baby was terrified. Screamed. Tried to climb out and over . It made me sick. I won't watch that person again. From my observance of horse training in my lifetime, I'm 76, advancement has been made . It can be accomplished without terror, cruelty, and intimidation. Probably takes a human with a sense of selfesteem sense and kindness.

Lady and Ken worked beautifully on leveling out the ditches from the tiling job! Loved the sweet cow that was so curious as the horses worked! What a great ending to the day by having a wienie roast at the cabin to enjoy a beautiful sunset!🥰 It's nice to see cousin Cindy driving the horses home!!!!! I'm glad Bree's weaning went so well. And it's good that Lady's milk is drying up good. I sure do love all your horses. Each one is very special to me. And I still miss sweet Buck. He and Ken were such a beautiful team. Sorry the drone crashed...Abby😘! Speaking of Abby, I was happy she was getting the electrical work done in her last video!!!!

Jim, why not take your little tractor and drive over the track to fill and pack? Then you can go out with the skid loader again with the blocks to wing the dirt to the area needed again. Then you don’t have to worry about injury if the horses stepped in the track.

It looks so much better than the way they left it! Brenda, I love how you included the cows! They were so curious about what was going on...and you cared to recognize that! If you could find a horse drawn or tractor drawn grader you could have someone drive the horses and you work off of the grader. A small 8' - 10' blade would work great. That would be an interesting video especially if Ken and Baron were pulling it!

That was a job made for my compact tractor and 5 foot wide rototiller. I had a section in my hayfield where the previous farmer had plowed in the same direction year after year. It left an uneven hump in the field. I went over it with the rototiller and evened it out. To my surprise, the next year I had a beautiful crop of clover where I rototilled.

I’ve disked plowed ground with a double gang harrow similar to yours, Jim. It was the first job I actually drove the tractor for when I was first big enough to depress the clutch pedal. I absolutely thought the stone boat drag was going to work. I didn't even consider other options. Man I was way wrong. You know, if you feel like buying yourself some new equipment for christmas, a welder could be pretty handy. like, could weld two ibeams together in an angle, then pull the ends to smooth the dirt over. But that's a pretty purpose built tool. More Bree footage!

Jim, I know you’re a seasoned professional, however, if you fell, the horses would pull the harrow right over you and slice your body to sheds. Please be careful!! Maybe something could be attached for you to lean against at the very least. Love watching your videos.

You will have the option in the spring when you work it down, if there is stll a depression where tile was pulled in of putting a full cut on the front disc that will throw soil in the depression while leaving no cut on the back set. Back in the 90s l was trenching around 5000 ft a year of clay tiles for a few years, so l know the importants of letting the soil settle before cultivating.

Another wonderful video, Brenda and Jim!!! Really enjoyed watching Ken and Lady working together, it's a thing of beauty to watch them. All your horses are gorgeous! Glad Bree is weaned now, that's one less thing for you to worry about. Sorry you had to do all that work after the tiles were placed in your field, I don't know anything about what's generally done, just assumed that they would fill everything back in again after opening the trenches. At least the horses can help fill them in again. Brenda, your cousin Cindy seems to really enjoy being with the horses and learning, what a nice lady! Have a great week ahead!!! 💕

I'm surprised at the damage the tilers did to your fields. I have watched RU-vidr dirt perfect install a lot of tile for RU-vidr Farmer Chris. They have never had that much damage even with 8" tile. They use a plow attached to the ripper on an 850J dozer. Worse case, they run down the ridge with the track of either the dozer or the excavator to flatten it down.
