Possibly the quickest little background I have ever done, this video follows on from the demo trying out different materials on drafting film. This one shows how to create a soft but effective background using Faber Castell Albrecht Durer pens.
Materials used in this demo are:
Faber Castell Watercolour Markers - amzn.to/32jjZ2T
Grafix Double Matte 0.005 film - amzn.to/3ldxxFO

I think that it is quicker than using cp with dabbing Gamsol. I haven’t compared really close honestly on my own work but it shows another great option. I am able to achieve a sort of water drop method by using cp on both sides with Gamsol but it comes out a bit unique every time. Thank you.😊

I didn't know water pens, pencils etc could work on drafting film. I've never used but I'd love to! Very good technique and beautiful drawing!!

Thank you so much. But yes, so many different things to give a constant array of differing effects. Not enough time in the day to try them all though! :)

She's gorgeous! Although I do not have water pens I do have a very few watercolor pencils and I will definitely give that a try. Thank you very much for demonstrating another technique for us.

Amazing work! I am searching for a method of a smooth background for a long time. On paper it always looks grainy. On film I got this blurry effekt by blending my oil pastels with baby oil and rubbing it with a cotton pad. But it didn’t dry...

Have you used the markers much on normal watercolor paper? I haven’t found one they work on that well. Luckily I only bought two to test out instead of the whole set.

I have but to be honest I do not like watercolour paper fullstop. I find the cotton fibres pill & stick to the pens or any wet media I use which makes me a bit frustrated!

I was a bit dubious when you started adding the pens to the drafting film, thinking "oh know, you're going to wreck that lovely drawing", but she turned out lovely. Can I ask why you chose to apply the pens on the same sheet as the drawing and not on a separate sheet to sit behind. Thanks for sharing (-: Marion

If you watch the previous test video you will see that the colours soften & would become quite muted once dry. As the film is so thick it would have been too muted to do it on a sheet behind. I was originally going to use Panpastels but again, on the same sheet. It does look a bit odd when applying the pens doesn't it but a little goes a long way with them :)
