SPOILER BELOW: I actually ended up going 2-2 with this deck, cause my round 3 opponent insta-conceded (they must not have cared about the gems) and I scrapped out a victory in the final round, so I guess the deck was capable of getting wins after all!

I think you vastly underestimate chance-met elves in the UG scry deck it becomes a must answer threat and if you have multiples of them they get out of hand very quickly

Those dudes are one of the few decent payoffs in the otherwise terrible UG. U Gandalf is also great since he can usually kill an attacker and produce value from the following turn.

I'm not a big fan of Chance-Met Elves. The only time where it feels good to me is when it is played on Turn 3 after a turn 2 Lothlorien Lookout, and even then lots of decks can beat it. Without that specific curve it always feels like an underpowered 3 drop to me. Also, you probably noticed, but I didn't really have that many ways to Scry consistently nor cards that cared about scrying, and I already had plenty of 3 drops, so it just didn't feel like a card I wanted. Just because a lot of Blue Green decks care about Scrying heavily doesn't mean they all do. I don't think I would even describe my deck as a, "Scry deck."

@@NicolaiBolas of course it can be beaten but it still a great card for that type of deck, you had at least a couple of instant speed scrying that could scry on their turn and double as a combat trick. All I'm saying is if you play the UG deck again give them a shot you might be surprised how good they can be.

I had a Scry deck before where I tried it and wasn't impressed, so that's what I've been basing my evaluation on (I've played the card, not just judging it conceptually is the point I'm making). I just often feel like I'd rather have other 3 drops that don't require extra work to be good. Maybe I'll experiment with it again, and I do think it is worth noting that I didn't even have that much Scry in this deck, at least consistent Scry, so I feel like this wasn't a great home for it anyway.

Thank you for uploading this Nicolai. You have always been my favorite MTG streamer by far because you're charismatic, sincere and just funny as hell. Your intro alone is the best intro by far! The clip is awesome; you're wondering why anyone would enjoy this? It's because everyone has been in the same situation and everyone tilts. So it's not only recognizable; the closer I get to mythic the more nonsensical decks I face (I dealt with two nazguls only to see someone drop the third in a friggin Premier Draft). It's also hilarious that even when tilting you stay your mellow self. While I'm shouting F-bombs loud enough to scare the neighbours you just go jeez louise and carry on. It sucks that you had to encounter this on the event though; I feel your pain. Always stay yourself buddy, and thanks for making me laugh out loud with this video! #brutality

I would like to see more of the competitive play. Sorry you had a rough draw, but I think it is good for us to see strong players struggle sometimes. The content creators who only show their bomb drafts can be fun to watch, but then frustrating when I have rough drafts.

#Brutality I got super into mtg draft playing online and wanted to watch to hopefully improve a bit, and honestly found this super entertaining. Something about watching a "good" player get absolutely demolished by an unfair set of circumstances is weirdly cathartic lol

Rough draft, but I think you technically played it “correctly.” I forced black/blue in my day 2 draft. No bombs unfortunately, but it was still a decent deck with 2 Mouth of Saurons, tons of amass, and other annoying controlling cantrips. Just barely didn’t qualify for draft 2. Came down to final game, but I have no regrets. Green and white have been so unkind to me in this format. I refuse to play them at this point regardless of the signals.

To be fair, I wasn't playing Green when I passed Celeborn. Also, I just don't like Chance-Met Elves that much, and my deck didn't even have that much Scrying in it.

I think the recording might glitch out at times, because to me the stuff does not feel all that choppy most of the time. Maybe I'm just used to it thought.

I feel like the mana dorks and food stuff were a massive trap. You didn't get good packs at all but deck would've been better if u went all-in on scrying.

I didn't really have any payoffs for Scrying. Chance-Met Elves is not a card I really care about, and I didn't see anything else (like Arwen) that would really help that strategy.

I kind of like just going red red red red for the opening picks. Pack 2 Lancer and Vanguard are on par and at this level you're gonna have people jamming black to send a clear signal. Pack 3 Quarreling End is definitely worse than Glorious Gales but I like sending the strong red signal. Pack 4 Goblin The red definitely gets cut off after this with nothing red pack 5 and a combat trick in pack 6 (which i'd also take). But clearly when dealing with this caliber of drafter it's 100% clear they are avoiding green like it's the plague, with that strong signal you have a decent pack 2 in red, and outs to both going white/red or blue/red control. Dunno feels like you got successfully duped into going green.

Yeah, I agree. From what I've seen, going green or blue in this environment is a death sentence. Scying as a theme just does NOT work against the super fast black/red meta.

Did you not see the Blue Green deck my last round opponent had? It might be the best deck I've faced in the format, and when a color is wide open things like that can happen.

I don't think it is a matter of, "getting duped." The path you suggest through the draft is one that I don't think I would remotely consider, as I don't think Lancer is even close to Vanguard and I would never pick a Quarreling End third. What you're describing is just forcing Red, which is something that others might like but is something I never do unless I open an unbeatable bomb in a color. You can certainly win with Green decks (if you've watched my other drafts of the format I do it all the time) and the Blue Green deck I faced in the second round was arguably the best deck I've seen in this entire format, so I don't think it is fair to say that any particular archetype can't get there.

@@NicolaiBolas The issue is that greens commons are so bad you're relying on green uncommons/rares being opened which may just not happen, in which case finding the open lane means you found the open trash green commons lane. I think even less open red is better than green so it's just a much lower bar to clear. As far as it being "forcing" well it depends on the card evaluations, at its core we just value Lancer/Vanguard differently, Lancer ranks above Vanguard in many stats, certainly Vanguard is much more flexible and better in more decks. But you already have a great red card, so when it's a marginal difference I'm inclined to just stick with the same color especially when it's a top 2 color in the format. Quarreling end is rated below Glorious Gale but not significantly. So I agree you shouldn't force, I just don't evaluate the cards the same way, I don't think there is more than 1/3 of a letter grade between the cards and to me that makes me want to stick with the same colour. if it was B- v B+ then certainly i'd go with the B+. Calling it dupped maybe harsh, but maybe it's just cos I feel dupped every time I get sucked into green and then still don't get anything good even though it's wide open.

@@deathByStupid I just don't think Green's commons are as bad as you think they are I guess. I also think stats are misleading in many cases with 17Lands (it is a bit too complex of a topic to address here), but basically using the, "data," to compare cards across colors is not super helpful in my opinion. If we imagine that the person passing to me is playing Red (based on the lack of Red cards I was seeing), the idea that getting the second best Red card out of every pack is better than getting the best Green card out of basically every pack just doesn't sound effective to me. I've played plenty of Green decks (just check out some of my other videos) and have had some very successful drafts with the color.

It was painful to see your draft treat you so rough. I usually see it work out like that for me when I try those events. Even with a few other picks not really sure how much better you could've done since those 2 opponents had such good builds. I watched your other games on twitch and liked some of the other ideas you had in mind. Hope for better luck in the future bud.

#Brutality missing Celeborn probably was the worst mistake that it can be made imho. 6 dead cards in the deck like many partings and the dork where too much. Better luck next time (:

I wasn't Green when I passed Celeborn (it would have been my first Green card) so while it would have been nice to have, it also isn't a pick I'm unhappy with. Many Partings is an interesting case because it doesn't add as much mana as you'd think. Think of a scenario where you play 2 lands and a Many Partings instead of 3 lands. In the case with 3 lands (assuming 17 in your deck) you end up with 14 lands remaining. In the Many Partings scenario you have 15 lands left as potential draws. After casting a few Many Partings you aren't particularly more likely to flood out. Also, I prioritize Wose Pathfinder because it is often involved in the best starts, and that's something that can be really good. I just didn't see the good stuff to cast early (even a Bag-End Porter can be solid to ramp into).

You're right, but you also had red it correctly saying that "maybe scry deck is open", and Celeborn is like a mythic rare for that archetype. Many partings in general is really good, but I think that you missed lots of chance-met eleves that could help you a lot. Also nimrodel is much better than the 2/2 dog. Anyway dont get me wrong, obviosly it's much easier to judge when others make mistakes. I really appreciate your work, I find it really helpfull (:

@@Cristian-uw9ri I actually think the Dog combined with Many Partings is a pretty reasonable combo and can lead to some great starts. A 3/3 on turn 2 is no joke. Also, I just don't think Chance-Met Elves is that good unless you already have strong stuff going on. It just hasn't played out that great in my experience.
