craig loades I used to think like that until I drove a sports car with an auto duel clutch paddle shift. Manual is a thing of the past now. Look F1 racing, v8 Supercars in Australia, Supercars in general all have auto with paddle shift.

It's a Honda, of course its Asian! Most Asians can't seem to drive manuals however hence my comment above.

Good for you, however tried DSG, flappy paddle gear boxes etc and they all suck next to manual. Manuals are where it's at for driver involvement. Slower to change for sure but it's a whole lot more numb driving an auto and I find it dull. A lot less skill needed in an auto, just point and shoot. Not to mention the cost of dual clutch auto transmissions. Some of these are $20k and up for replacement. A friends just picked a 2019 Porsche GT3 manual for many of the reasons above. I guess you are either in one camp or the other. for sports vehicles its manual for me or nothing. Each to there own!

I purchased the 2018 type R and I have 6300 miles on it and I absolutely love it. The cornering capabilities of that car are absolutely insane.

Yet it is still at the head of its class in a drag race also. So its faster in a straight line yet it was built for corners. Thats why it is able to hit 7:43 at the ring.

Neither was the i30N. Even less build for straight line than a Type R. It's even set up to loose straight line performance in favor of cornering speed.

@@Iron883Man Yet the Type-R is better at the track and completely overshadows the i30N in a straight line. Imho, the Type-R is the car to beat as of now. It's a comfy car, yet also a very sporty car in one. The i30N is just an agile brick on wheels. It's torture for whoever sits in it.

@@Henry_Jr_Watsson a) that last statement is complete bollox. I live in Belgium. We have worse roads than the UK and I drive my N with suspension in sport mode all the time (rarely even use comfort setting). Only in N mode is it extremely hard and almost unusable on public roads. But like I said, you can have everything in N mode and leave suspension on a softer mode in the Hyundai. You can't do that in the CTR. The suspension in the N is certainly comfortable enough to use it as a daily and in comfort it's even to soft for my taste. b) The only reason the N is slower in the real world is the power deficit. Put both cars on a level playing field, like say the WTCC championship, and the N becomes the faster car. i30 N TCR won both driver and constructors championship in 2018 and clocked consistently better lap times than the Type R. WTCC cars have the same chassis and engine as their road legal versions, only they all put down 350ps there. The extra 7k EUR you have to spend on a new CTR compared to a new i30N simply isn't justified. A proper chiptune + a better intercooler would buy you 50 hp extra on the N and you would be driving a car that's just as fast as a CTR and more fun too for around 1.5k EUR extra spent on top of that i30N.

This is kind of retarded. The i30 isn't in the same league as the Type R and Golf R... pitting it against those is like purposely trying to trash it. 1. it's not a drag car. 2. It's more suited for Fiesta ST, Focus ST, GTI, GTI Rabbit, Mazdaspeed 3, WRX. Not against the Type R and Golf R. The contestant against those two is the Focus RS and STI. So this comparison is dumb as hell.

I own a fk8, and the vtec is surely there in my car, especially the moment it reaches over 6000rpm. The sound of fk8's Vtec is exactly the same as the s2k's.

Bonamin, IMO the styling of the Type R is to much and the Golf isn't enough. If the i30 was offered here in the US I would get one today. Agree with you that the Hyundai is more bang for the buck. Not a fan of the Veloster.

MKVII.5 does NOT have more power. But it does have an extra DSG gear over the MKVII. If they had a DSG Golf R out there, it would have murdered the Type-R.

It's not permanent 4wd so drivetrain loss won't be a factor. More power, less weight, better aero and shorter gearing are the reason.

Most of golf R are tuned with just a stage 1 (tuned ecu and an air filter) u can get around 360hp. About the same with the civic but 4wd is heavy that why the civic is faster

Golf has 310 PS and the 140i has 340 PS

Some yeaes ago when Porsche mentioned they’d release a car with manual gears people went crazy (in a good way that is). People not chasing lap times on nordschleife every time they drive a car simply prefers manual transmissions.

The Golf R got Something like a Launch Control! Put it in Sport Mode, turn off the Start-Stop and The ESP and then just floor Brake and Gas. If you release the Brake it goes on and on

The golf r comes standard with an electronic lsd. At least here in the USA so I would assume it's not an option but I know the euro golf r can be had with less on it as ours just comes as is with no real options other than the dsg.

The DSG version is the quickest version of the Golf R, that's what I want to see! Every time the Golf R features in a drag race against the Type R or Focus RS it's a manual version. I'd just like to see the quickest available Golf against the quickest available Type R. Why is that too much to ask for??

Yes, for sure. Half a second faster to 60mph than the stick.

It would lose against the Type R from a rolling start, also if the race goes on for long enough (1/2 mile +) the Type R tends to catch up and pass at higher speeds. The DSG Golf R is in another league where the standing 1/4 mile is concerned though.

@@muckspreader1able All 3 are excellent. Also with the same mods the golf r is quicker than the type r (hondata tuned type R vs APR tuned golf R), though the Civic is the better handler. The golf R still remains the best blend of performance, comfort, refinement and practicality. Not everyone likes the type R's outlandish styling either.
