The only prep at this track is the removal of rubber/oil from the surface. Its pretty much no prep racing. 7.40 is respectable though, sounds like it was healthy!

I believe you are calculating this off the 1.6 ratio from NHRA. Its widely agreed that their 1.6 ratio is outdated and most cars are exceeding that ratio. Track officials and most conversion tables run off this 1.56 rather the 1.6 that NHRA recommends. Take a look at most time slips, you will see that most cars are closer to or even exceeding the 1.56 ratio than the 1.6. Additionally, I believe the car is a high to mid 11 second car, I just dont have any proof other than these conversion ratios. 91 MPH is pretty good for a 7.68 which usually means the car will perform better on the quarter. Either way, this debate is just one more reason to drag this car up to the 1/4 mile tracks when they reopen to settle this the right way!

I’m curious, how much does your Vette weigh, & what rear gear ratio your running? I know they weigh about 3,500lbs. stock, but I can see you have shed some of that weight off yours. The reason I’m asking is I have a very similar set up engine wise with a Blueprint Engines 383 stroker, hydraulic roller cam, & aluminum heads but... it’s in a 95’ K1500 OBS chevy truck that weighs in around 4,000lbs or a little over with my plump a$$ in it, not to mention I have the aerodynamics of a brick lol. I was just wondering about yours so I can kinda sorta guesstimate what kinda ballpark I’d be in through a quarter mile run. I’m running a 3.43 rear gear now for better highway cruising rpm, but I’m seriously thinking bout sticking the 3.73 gear in it instead...🤔 I just can’t make my dang mind up on it. I don’t even wanna get started on figuring out how to drop some weight off of it without sacrificing my interior comforts cause it’s still my daily driver...😩😪 I’ve gotten lost trying to find the middle ground.
@BZRGarage
@BZRGarage 3 года назад
Lol, I feel you, its hard to find the "best of both worlds" place. Im actually planning on weighing the car as Im curious myself. I also plan on dropping a bit more weight after weighing it. Car is running 3.55 gears so thats not ideal for drag racing as well. Weight and aero are going to hold you back the most. Getting a good 60' is also going to be harder due to the weight distribution difference. If I had to guess, my vette is probably 3200-3300 as it sits with an easy 100 pounds more to shed.
@kenthompson1539
@kenthompson1539 3 года назад
@@BZRGarage You hit that nail dead on the head 100%! That’s my 3 biggest crutches for sure. Weight, weight distribution, & aero. My truck isn’t a straight bed either, it’s step side but honestly I have no clue if that’s better or worse, I just assumed it’s worse cause there’s more angles to disturb air flow, now I wanna see this truck in a wind tunnel just to see how big of a hurricane it would make in there lol. If I changed nothing but horsepower I would have to pretty much double it just to try & keep up with your Vette but that alone would bring a whole other list of problems with it like traction & that’s already a problem. But then if I did have good traction we both know my stock tranny would shatter like glass as soon as I dumped the clutch, it would’ve broke already if I had more traction right now. Those trannys can’t even handle stock 305 t.b.i. power for very long at all. I have a spare one that’s had stronger gears installed into it just waiting for when mine craps out & that’s just a matter of time, it WILL brake lol, no doubt at all. The driveshaft is a mystery to me, not sure where it’s breaking point is, but I’ve already found & went through it’s weak points twice... yep, U joints!! On the bright side it’s got a decent rear end, it should be good to 1,000 horsepower, but if & when it does break there’s a Ford 9” waiting on the sidelines. Jeez... I should’ve just went with the 2nd gen Camaro, or even the hated 3rd gen, heck I think I had a chance at an S-10 even.... but nope I went with the 2 ton brick!! 😭
@Jay-we8xy
@Jay-we8xy 3 года назад
Ken unfortunately you're in the same boat as me my 1970 mustang has the same problem you have a C3 Corvette engine is almost completely behind the front control arms giving it mid engine traction 55 percent rear 45 front we face mechanical disadvantages
@kenthompson1539
@kenthompson1539 3 года назад
@@Jay-we8xy Yeah it’s rough trying to get decent acceleration out of a 4,000+ lbs. brick lol. My weight distribution is just... sickening with 40% in the rear & 60% in the front🤮, but it does have aluminum heads now instead of cast iron & one of those thick heavy fiberglass bed covers that my 260 lb. a$$ can stand rite in the middle of & it doesn’t even try to give one bit, so maybe just maybe my weight distribution might possibly be 41-42% in the rear & 58-59% in the front lol. I got no clue how I can get closer to that 8 to 10% difference without completely stripping down my front half. It doesn’t sound like a big deal to most but we both know 8 to 10% on weight distribution especially on a truck is freakin MASSIVE!! I can’t really move my engine back without slaughtering my firewall so I guess I’ll just have to start with swapping everything I can out on the front half with lighter weight stuff & deleting everything single thing that isn’t absolutely necessary & maybe a battery relocation for the battery & put it in the bed amongst about a thousand other tis bits that I haven’t thought of yet.🤯 My head hurts I’m gonna lie down now.🥴

I do wish I could do that, as Jay said, no ring gap for power adders. I knew if I gapped it for power adders, I would do it... Since its a stock cast 4 bolt main block, it would probably mean the end of the block as we know it haha. Once I feel Ive gotten the car to go as fast as it can, Ill swap motors to something that can handle some boost.

Last thing I forgot to mention. Are u using the stock driveshaft and half shafts? I was planning on fabricating 3.5 in steel all around with solid u joint. What are you running on urs? I mean are you doing 7 seconds with stock tranny and rear end? I really would like to know? Are you in any of the forums?
@BZRGarage
@BZRGarage 3 года назад
Awesome! Glad to hear it. Im using a late model super T10 with aluminum case. It depends on driver more than anything if your trans survives. Ive seen Muncies destroyed by the stock 190 hp 350 these cars came with.. Ive also seen guys running 700 pound of torque from a big block through those stock trannys without issue. Sounds like a solid engine build, what kind of expectations do you have on horse power? Currently running stock drivetrain, not worried so much about the driveshaft but I do worry about the halfshafts. Im honestly waiting for one to break to upgrade them. I have the dragvette 6 link so if it does break, it should be minor. Im also curious how far I can push them. So far 1.59 in the 60' is pretty fast for stock. Dragvette makes some 3.5's I believe as well, I dont know your background but they do have to balanced so consider that when fabricating them. I also not running solid u joints, so the fact that I havent broke anything is surprising to me. I believe being smooth off the line and 3.55 gears are saving my halfshafts but I feel their life will be ending soon haha. Im in the Budget C3 Corvette Projects on Facebook. Pretty solid group of guys there, no BS like other groups. Mainly a bunch of guys working and building cars, good place to ask questions!

Hey thanks for your reply, is good to see not everyone is a jerk. And well where to start. Im from Costa Rica I bought the car back in 06, the car was driving but was in poor condition but I got it cheap, drove it for a couple weeks and decided to park it for a restoration. Then I ordered a Corvette America catalog and when I saw the prices for everything I couldn't really afford what I wanted with the car. Time went by I started dismantling the interior and making a list of everything I wanted for the car. Is been a long time and also at that time I was working on a 300zx I have so it wasn't until 2011 that I finally started getting parts. Between shipping and taxes is been a lot of money but is all worth it. Forgot to mention that the car was a factory 454 unfortunately somewhere alone the line someone swapped a 307 in it but since I knew nothing about Corvette back then I had no idea of what I had until I started doing research. That's why I got the new block. Back in October I started getting engine parts originally my intention was to build a 450hp to 500hp sbc350 however my younger brother has a Toyota cressida with the 1uzfe vvti and his been doing all sorts of things to the car for drag racing. This past January he bought a Eaton m122 super charger and sends me a pic telling me I'll be looking at the back of his car. So obviously I wasn't gonna let it go so easy. When I was building the 300zx I bought a twin turbo kit thinking I could just put it on the car obviously that wasn't the case. So I ended up buying a engine from z1 and all the extra stuff has been sitting on the closet for years. I did a bit of research and realized I could use the tt kit on the car. From what I've seen here on RU-vid and on the forums if I manage to run 10lb of boost I think somewhere above 600hp is where I hope to be when done. On top of that since the sniper can control nitrous and the kits are cheap I said what the hell right definitely the nitrous will be last part I will get for the car. If I ever end up using nitrous I don't want to go over 125hp shot just want that little extra punch. I want the car to last an be able to drive it. My brother his a mechanic he has a garage I do body work and painting. There's a guy down here he fabricate shafts and gives balancing service as well so not worrying about that. I ask so many questions around because I really want to get it right I dont want to be like when I was in my 20s doing budget builds that cost way more cause u using the car you changing things and is a matter of time for the next weak link to fail like my brothers cressida every time we go to the track something happens. I'm almost 40 and I just want a nice mean looking old car with all the blows and whistles. But is really good to see everything you are doing with your car it shows me that it will hold more than what hatters say. Is like every time I asked a question on the forum people just say if I was you I would change so and so. Which has nothing to do with the question so it has made me nervous. I really don't want anything to break so I'll try to make all precautions.
