There’s something to be said about old equipment. Can you imagine trying to get a modern piece of equipment going if it had been sitting that long. The challenges of trying to get all the electronics to work. Gotta love the simplicity of the old equipment. Thanks Pete for another awesome video. And keeping the old equipment alive.
And he’s so knowledgeable about so many things, without talking over my head, even though so much I know nothing or very little about. I love this channel and thinking of Pete and Hilary as my next door neighbors. 😍
Hi Pete and Hillary. I reaiiy enjoy your channel. Being an 84 (next month) year old central Pa. boy your Little Genius plow video was a pleasant surprise and brought back memories of 70 years ago when l plowed for my uncle on his farm with an F20 and 2 - 14” bottom Little Genius. Still enjoy the smell of freshly turned soil especially in the spring. Seldom get to plow any more but still making some hay on some of my permanent hay fields so l enjoy your hay making as well as the every day things you two do as a great team. Looking forward to the Plow Day video . Hopefully extended or maybe more than one. I spent over 40 years in mostly commercial and industrial construction working with many people including Architects and Engineers. Had some really good teams. I understand what you mean about burn out. It wasn’t hard to retire. Keep up the good work. Many people enjoy your channel. Jim.B.
When I was a kid, I watched my neighbor working his fields with almost exactly that same rig.... That was state of the art in the 60's for small farms.
Pete - I really enjoy that you educate us younger generations on how the older equipment functions and operates. All of your content is truly valuable. Jake from Missouri!
Pete your enthusiasm after plowing and the excited anticipation for the plow day that's coming up actually brought a tear to my eye. Those days of plowing sure were fun for me too. Usually they were pretty chilly early spring or late fall. But fun none the less. 😊
Tractor loading up and sounding very sweet with the old plough. I always think back to the Victorian days when a couple of steam ploughing engines did the rounds for hire. Watching the plough head running on wires to and from the underslung drums, is a sight to behold even today. Seeing the Shire Horses working in tandem doing that job is awesome too. Thank you for posting best from the UK.
Thank you for that education! I never knew that method was used. I did a little research and it was pretty interesting how they did that with steel cables and the stationary steam windlass. Learn something old every day! 😊
This ranks as one of my favorite episodes, what a wonderful machine. Makes me think twice about all the implements I see parked in country yards as “yard art “ , there’s probably life left in them also.
I've watched your channel for years and I must say this is the first time I have seen one of your tractors really getting a workout! I really appreciate how you explain what we're looking at. This was another great video Pete. Well done.
Fun listening to the International pull. We farmed in the 60s with W9 (4 bottom) and she had the same sound. Pulled a 4 bottom with pony drill(4ft). Rode that tractor many, many hours. We would stop and try to catch baby jack rabbits when we were plowing and seeding at night. When we would start back up, we had to lift the plow. That would leave a ridge in the field where the combine would 'jump'. Biggest problem was trying to stay awake. The tractor would follow the furrow 'most' of the time. But as soon as you fell asleep, she would jump the furrow. Thanks for the memories.
Despite the sign at the end, a rag soaked in old motor oil wiped around would really make her shine! Great video, Pete! Thank you kindly for the wholesome grassroots 😉video content!
WOW!! What an awesome video of turning the soil. When my dad began farming in 1946, he started with a new Farmall H and a 2-14s IHC plow. I learned on a 1950 WD Allis with his J D 2-14s. He had a wide front end installed so I could handle the job much easier. He would follow me with his 1949 Farmall M and a 3-14s unit. We made a great plowing team turning over 5 furrows each round. Thanks for the memories, Pete.
What memories of my youth plowing for my father with our H and 2 bottom plow! My grandfather bought the H and "Little Genius" plow new in 1940. He didn't like the plow and traded it for an Oliver 2 bottom which I used many years. Later I had a 5 bottom with my IH 560 Diesel which made the job go quicker! Thanks for the memories.
Really enjoyed the video and your explanation on the plow and how to use it. You are the Fred Rogers of the youtube generation of farmers, homesteaders and do it yourselfers.
Pete: That brings back so many memories. I was 10 years old, dad had a Minneapolis Moline ZA 3 bottom, and I ran a Ford 8n 2 bottom, farming 200 acres. The joy of my life. One was so proud and never forget. I believe 1955 thru 1963 when I graduated high school.
Grabbed my morning coffee, and turned the conputer on booted up YT and here was a new Just a few Acres video! what more could I ask for! great way to start my day!. Just think what an old farmer would think watching that rig plow two rows! and so effortlessly vs his horse and single bottom! he's stand there and just shake his head in awe!. and mutter. "What will they think of next? yep ! what will Pete think of next! thanks for sharing and making my morning Pete. and lets not forget Hillary she started the video off with you! God speed for both of you. ECF
Pete, i usually stay out of the correction thing, but plow width is more easily measured as the distance from outside edge of one beam to inside edge of next beam. The chain was used to drag behind plow to pull down the tops of grass/weeds to make for a nicer finish. I think your videos are the best and thank you for all you and Hil do!!!
Brilliant Pete. I love to see these old pieces of kit being revitalised. So much is taken for granted these days with modern equipment, but that view you had looking back over the plough was exactly what countless hard working farmer would be looking back at for many years. 🇬🇧
Hi Pete! Your P&O plow hails back to Canton, Illinois, my wifes hometown, just 30 miles from our home. After several mergers, etc. P&O became an Internation Harvester plant which which operated through the 70s or 80s and no longer exists. Always a good day when your latest video appears!
Loved this video, Pete!! Really very special. Took me back to riding along with my grandfather on his Massey Harris 44 when he would plow. Fond, fond memories. Thank you for sharing this with us, Pete. It was a whole lot of fun!!
Thanks Pete. I watch your videos religiously ! I look forward to learning about you and your farm. Your wealth of knowledge is always valuable ! Keep it up !!
Loved the video. Love to see that old plow work, and the sound of the H doing its job. You can here Ordin in the background wanting out of that barn.I think he is board. Thanks Pete.
Hercules rides again! Love that old H. I look forward to seeing the video from your plow day Mr. Pete and really look forward to seeing the F-20 and Super C in action.
Pete, I envy you on your plow days at the show your neighbor is hosting. I would love to see that and even run a tractor like I did many years ago on the farm. Every time you take the super C out with the utility trailer, it brings back lots of memories when we would get seasoned wood from the plies we stacked and take loads to the circular belt driven saw, off the back of the tractor, then split it up, and get it piled and stacked. We had three families that lived near each other, so my father and two uncles shared the equipment, and worked together, so we had wood to heat the three homes.😊
I ❤this video! I couldn't stop smiling watching you plow your friends field. I told my husband I need one of those for my garden in texas. ❤❤❤ great job Pete and Hillary!!
I am always amazed at how durable old farm equipment was built. And thus a lot of it continues to be used and enjoyed by many generations of farmers to this day. I am looking forward to watching you plowing at the farm show. Thank you for sharing another great teaching video! And have a blessed day!
It’s always a blast to see what Pete is up to, great video, we had a ford 860 with two bottom and every spring my grandpap and my Dad would plow for hours. I wish they were around to see how things have changed. Thanks Pete for a walk down memory lane. Great job, really appreciate your efforts
This reminded me of my uncle who explained to me how they used to plough with horses and then with steam engines, you need 2 steam engines one at each end of the field the plough is attached with a steel cable which runs between the two engines one pulling the cable and the other winding the cable in on a large turntable, after the plough reaches the end of the field the engines move along by the width of the plough and the engines change the direction of the turntables. I was only about 10 years old at the time but I still remember him standing at the side of the field telling me about it. PS it was 68 years ago, So thank you Pete and Hilary.xx
I'm just so happy when I turn my computer on and watch your videos. I'm not a farmer but I do have an old Yanmar tractor with a single bottom plow that I've never tried. Having watched you I think I'll try it out. Thank you again for your wonderful and informative videos.
Hello Pete, Found your channel from watching another farmer ( Out of the woods in Tenn. I am not a farmer always lived in town but am very interested in farming equipment for some reason🤔. Me and the wife have been watching your videos for awhile now and love your work. You know how to explain the machines so we no farmers understand it. Thank You for sharing your farm with us.
"It's a beautiful day for a tractor ride." That sounds like a new catch phase. Second only to "com'mon cows ." Have a great day, see you on the next one.
Because of this channel I got my Great Grandpas Ford 2N out and rebuilt. It has always been my dream to get a 2 bottom and go attend a plow day with it. I'm so excited to watch this video and the video from the upcoming plow day!
The Farmall H was the first large tractor I used. I was 14 (1964) and we lived on a rented farm in a sandy area of Wisconsin. I pulled a two bottom plow but can’t remember what it even looked like. Thanks for bringing back those great memories.
Pete, there is something so fascinating about 'old iron', and to see old iron doing what it was used for so long ago, is just a real satisfying view!! Very cool to see!
