June 28, 1951 True Love 💕 sad reality. Excellent episode 👌 • Ben always gives a little comic relief: ...” 18 women telling you what to do, a real madhouse” 😂

Funny, in the previous video “The Big Run” the two “old women” killed in the hit & run were 55 and 58. This ancient guy (“old man”) is my age, 67. I think in 1951 I’d be about done as far as life expectancy.

Where can you find this information? I've been looking for somewhere that credits Arquette for being Mr. Turner, but all I can find is stuff that just says he was credited for several episodes in the Dragnet radio series. Also, am I correct in stating that this episode corresponds with the TV episode "The Big Moody?" The description on IMDB for "The Big Moody" matches that of this radio episode and it casts Ralph Moody as someone (it doesn't say). If "The Big Moody" is named after Ralph Moody who is the only other cast member credited on IMDB for that episode, and it is true that Cliff Arquette played Mr. Turner in this episode which is titled "The Big Cliff" and the stories match, I think it's safe to assume they are in fact based on the same story, correct?
@fromthesidelines
@fromthesidelines Год назад
Yes! Jack frequently adapted radio scripts for television furing the original "DRAGNET" series- and he titled the episode to reflect who played "Turner" on radio *and* TV.

@@heyoldman2003 It was easier/allowed back then to hold people in jail even without any real evidence. And with the little evidence they had I don’t think this case would have held up in court anyway. That’s why they needed a confession. And Joe was going to try his hardest to coerce it out of him. Ben was uncertain about the man’s guilt. NEVER TALK TO POLICE WITHOUT A LAWYER. No Miranda Rights back then apparently.
@teresas8173
@teresas8173 2 года назад
The average life span back then was somewhere in the 60s I believe. It probably would have been higher if people didn’t smoke so much back then 🚬😶‍🌫️🫁🫀🧠
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 Год назад
@@teresas8173 This was made in 1951. Miranda rights wouldn't be a thing for fifteen years yet. You could still face a third degree (ie torture) interrogation in many lower profile municipalities at this stage, although not in LA. Also, average life expectancy in 1951 was just over 68 years in the US, a bit less for men despite a significantly higher rate of death during childbirth back then. Not that any of that make Joe any less of an utter ass in this. He's a thoroughly unlikeable character almost all of the time, and has essentially zero character growth over the years.
@E.L.RipleyAtNostromo
@E.L.RipleyAtNostromo 11 месяцев назад
@@richmcgee434He’s strident here, but calling him a “thoroughly unlikable character” is a gross exaggeration. If that’s the case then you need to be watching some modern TV show instead of listening to one of the most popular radio shows of all time and judging it.

Joe has a tendency to exaggerate. First the old man said he slapped his wife once. With in minutes Joe said the old man "hit" her twice. Then later in the show under interrogation he told the old man you "beat her" up twice.
