I gotta admit, if everyone called my older brother by our last name, even when I was around, because everyone figured I knew I was unimportant enough to know they weren't referring to me, I'd be pretty bitter too.
Same here. Although he was quite a pain in Act 1, and I didn’t much like him, but then the DLCs went out and we could see what he’s become in Acts 2 & 3 and now he’s one of my favorites.
Awwww I always loved that Carver had a major crush on Merrill. It made him more relatable and likeable, even before he matured after joining either the wardens or the Templars. I kinda wanted a relationship to start between them like how Fenris and Isabela start one in act 3, but I understand why that would be hard to do since Carver is barely around kirkwall and Merrill stays isolated in her house working on the mirror.
@LostOddity Idk, maybe it’s just me but I don’t see such a big difference in her friendhip/rivalry, especially in MotA. There are more differences in Legacy but I’m not sure they’re worth a new playthrough.
@ladyofrillwater I figure they try justify it by saying he is no longer the same Anders. He's an infusion of Anders and Justice and therefore has changed. Still lame, though. I preferred his Awakening character too..
09:48 - Carver: "...'Baron Paucity de Rochfort's Grand Fete!' " Hawke: "I've been calling him 'Duke Prosperity', but 'Paucity de Rochfort is much better!" Carver: "Le Baron du Stinky Cheese!" Hilarious, one of the best out of the two of them's best moments, well, out Male Hawke and Carver, love to see the Female Hawke and Carver version(s).
Carver: "Seems like you could be doing something bigger with our name." Hawke: "Do you have an estate? I have an estate" XDD Brother banter is best banter.
I also prefer Carver. Bethany is a sweetheart, but to a great extent her personality serves as a plot device, so that non-mage Hawke has a personal stake in the mage vs. templar war. Carver's relationship with Hawke, however frustrating, is on more human terms. He's written to reflect a real family conflict rather than to meet the demands of the story.
"(Chuckles) Enjoy your new pet." "She'll find one too. Thanks for that." Carver and Hawke have pretty awesome banter. Also, I don't care what people say, Carver is one of my favorite characters.
@BeachChickThe Carver and Merrill would make a cute couple. I like how Isabela flirts with him, but I think she’s better off with Fenris. Bethany with Sebastian. Aveline with Donnic. Varric with Bianca. Seems like the only one left is Anders. I’ll be more than happy to remedy that! XD
I swear I feel like I'm the only person in the world who liked Carver more than Bethany. I understold where he was coming up constantly wanting to prove himself. He only became a Templar out of spite because if Hawke didn't take him it felt like his brother didn't trust him enough to watch his back. I will always like Carver and the back and forth between him and Hawke is always priceless
Carver had a crush on Leliana! I thought as much would be true. Also "I think YOU talk funny." Lol. I like aggressiveHawke, not as much as sarcastic but definitely more than diplomatic. And I liked Carver emphasising that he is also a Hawke. XD
Indeed. I quite like how once he joins the wardens he becomes a much more PLeasant person. And I always empathize with people who have a ting for merrill. But by far the best moment is when he teases isabela by quoting the chant at her in the most sexy way possible.
@ladyofrillwater It’s nice to see the good old Anders from time to time, but truth to be told I prefer his DA2 version. What can I say, I love tormented guys ^^
@pbbiscuit He’s grayed out at the beginning, but after meeting Tallis in Hightown, you need to choose your party again before going to the chateau, and you can add him there.
That's.... a very good description of why Carver is a better character than Bethany, no matter how much you love her. Too bad that's essentially what Bethany ends up being, a plot device...
@BeachChickThe Sometimes, but he’s much better than in Act 1. I even got to like him now and I never did before. Bethany on the other hand is the exact opposite. She’s great in Act1 and gets so bitter in Act2&3, especially as a GW.
@LostOddity The difference isn’t that big, especially if she’s a Warden. Plus she’s only there in DLCs and at the end so imho it’s not worth your while.
I played as a mage first, and got Carver, then as a rogue, and had Bethany. I gotta say... Bethany is so...boring compared to Carver. I missed him during the 2nd playthrough.
@BeachChickThe He really grew on me! In most of my playthroughs I play as a mage and I always regretted that Bethany gets killed and I had to put up with Carver. But now, thanks to the DLCs I like him much more than Bethany (Warden or Circle), I’ll definitely be exporting Warden Carver save to my first DA3 playthrough.
He's still kind of a jerk as a templar but it's good for him to become a Warden. He sort of matures as a person. It's sort of the opposite for Bethany though. The Wardens harden her personality, but the Circle nurtures her tenderness.
@ladyofrillwater Not at all :) I just think that his transformation added quite a lot of depth to this character and I love it. Awakening Anders was fun, but frankly I’d never leave Zevran for him (snark+passion+torment! ;)). And I might have considered it for DA2 Anders (passion+torment)... only for a moment though.
@BeachChickThe Me too because at least when he's a warden he won't be a big dick towards hawke and at least understand or trys to understand his decisions in life but at least when he was a templer least when i sided with the mages he cared enough and beg me not side with them not wanting to see me in prison or worse.
Oh danm now i feel really bad in my main DA2 game i romanced merril and in my main DA:O game i romance leilanna, i end-up fucking all the girls carver likes
@FluffyNinjaLlama I'm okay with tormented guys, but I love it when the characters dish out the snark. Anders was an almighty snark master in Awakening. He's less so in the beginning of DAII, with it disappearing almost completely by Act III. Even Varric notices. Is it so bad that I want Anders to reference his Spicy Shimmy when Fenris jokes about dancing in his house?! D:
@FluffyNinjaLlama Yeah, it's definitely something they should keep. I love the differences between rivalrying and friending Carver. I haven't tried rivalrying Bethany yet, but she's quite unfriendly on friendship after Act 1, so I'm not sure I'd notice the difference. :/
You get the Warden one on the Legacy DLC and the Chantry one is called "Robes of the Overseer". You find it in Act 3. So, yes you can those things if you are a mage and have Legacy DLC installed.
I enjoy the visualizing the thought of merrill actually finding an supposed to be extinct animal and having hawke take care of it, seriously just visualize it in your head and see if you don't find it funny, I guarantee you won't.
@LostOddity The DLCs made me completely change my mind about Carver. I used to dislike him greatly but he grew on me. He can still be cranky on rivalry, but on friendship path I like him a lot. Way more than Bethany in fact. I hope he and Merrill will get together, they’d make a cute couple in DA3.
@BeachChickThe I prefer him as a Warden, but as a Templar I think it’s very sweet when he tries to protect Hawke (with Cullen) from Meredith at the end.
"Way to sound like a Bumpkin, Carver." Lol. Aww, I love Carver. Bethany is nice, but it's just not the same. And I like Hawke having a sibling whose a Warden, it makes a good tie to DAO (especially with an Amell import), but Bethany is so cold as a Warden. :/ Though Carver can be a grouch, I still think he has a better sense of humour than Bethany, especially in the DLCs. Anyway, Carver's crush on Merrill, and Bethany and Sebastian's flirting is so cute! :3
