It made the continent of Thedas far more hospitable for human lives but not elven lives. Solas is intent on freeing Prometheus from his chains. And permit nature to reassert itself. For all the humans living in Thedas, and their kingdoms. It will be like the destruction of Pompeii on a continent wide scale! You can't blame a volcano for being a volcano. 🌋 Or a God for being the God that he is. Or an elf or man for making an effort to correct his mistake...

+Arthur Now that's just eating up a lot of details for the sake of comparison. Corypheus' one and only drive was always lust for power. He Was a priest of the Old Gods in a moment in which Tevinter wasmoving away from relgious fanatism and instead focusing their power on the Archon and the Magisterium itself. In other words,the Old God priests were losing their power against the Archon,and in a bid for power he followed the intructions of his gods and entered the Fade, hoping to show the world the power of the Gods. Solas however was a rebel leader in the midst of a war between tyrants. After many ages of fighting and many sacrifices he lost the one person he did not want to lose (Mythal) and partly in rage he vanished his enemies, but at a high prize he did not foresee. Yes, both destroyed the world with their actions,both acted without looking at the consequences,but their intentions were not the same, neither in the past nor after waking up in the present. Corypheus in the present wanted to be a god. Solas was ready to sacrifice everything, himself included, to restore his People.

Because darkspawn and Magisterial = what we have been conditioned to dislike since Origin. Elves being treated poorly has also been shown plenty, so that probably has a lot to do with it. I love Solas simply because he is a complicated character, but I'd gladly choose Nathaniel Howe for a complicated guy any day.

The fact of the matter is that zealotry is shown multiple times throughout the DA series, and it's never good. The Architect was a darkspawn and one of the mages that made it to the black city, but he was articulate and had what some people considered a noble purpose, so much so that they let him live. Corypheus on the other hand is a zealot trying to destroy the world by basically doing the same thing that Solas is doing. Not good. So when you say that Corypheus is 'worse' than Solas, that's blatantly inaccurate. Just because the old Tevinter Imperium has been shown to be a more tyranical society doesn't change the fact that Solas thought the original elves were destructive or flawed enough that they needed to be eliminated. Furthermore, which society is 'better' is irrelevant in the face of mass genocide. Solas is easily just as bad, if not worth than Coryphytits.

His goal is not to kill all living things in the world. His goal is to give the elves a home of their own to ensure their survival as a race. Sadly the only way of doing this is to greatly weaken the other races. Humans will never allow the elves to have a home of their own. If you led the human race to near extinction wont you do anything in your power to save your own race? I would. Any inteligent being should care for their own people. Solas doesn't want to do this. He is sadened and you could even say disgusted of himself for trying to do this. From the time being with him in Skyhold you should have learned that he doesn't like murder, violence and injustice. At the end you basicly tell him that you will try to stop him. Solas is no fool. He knows what the Inquisitor is capable of. I know this comment was made a literal year ago, but I'm gonna respond anyways: Y'know, Solas means "Pride" in Elvhen. So it adds up as to why he's so proud and selfish.

Sarah Riviere I support Solas I think he makes alot of sense The veil is the source of most of Thedas's problems including the blight (indirectly) The elves have been enslaved long enough to humans and lost everything their land, their homes, their art their civilization. Consider this, if it was humans and elves in reverse the humans would be doing the same thing in Solas's shoes. Its only evil when you are on the losing side is what I've noticed about the Hypocrisy of Humans conflicts. Solas isnt wrong nor is his plan inheritantly evil, he's trying to save his people and we would do the same thing in his shoes. Humans are just so blatantly biased and short sighted we dont consider 5 feet ahead let alone the fate of an entire race. If there IS a way to save the Elves and keep humans safe Solas would love that, but at the moment there isnt really any other alternatives. The veil HE created is literally killing his people, and killing Nature itself because the veil is like a slow suffocation of the planet itself. The Evanuris had to be dealt with but what else could he do against immortal mage kings with godlike power? He did the best he could at the time and made a mistake by creating the Veil What would you suggest? Leave his people in slavery, dirt and downtrodden to humans? HAH if it were reversed you would be preaching the humans kill all elves and rebellion and dont pretend you wouldnt. Solas has the Power to change things, and people who like the status quo hate powerful people doing the right things for the right reasons because deep down those same people are comfortable with oppression. Thats why I support Solas's goals. If the Humans had left the Elves alone he wouldnt have needed to tear the veil. So blame humans again for that one.

The problem with Mages and Fade Spirits. Even before Dragon Age 2 was released I had my own theory that the veil was some crappy barrier that is not natural, given how easily it is influenced by every single mage and how easily spirits can interact with it. I was very giddy when that proved right, but i am digressing. P.S. Yes, I agree it needs to go. Is there a way for Solas to save the elves, without tearing down the veil? Uh... yes. He can do a 'Moses'. Pick up the elves, find an uninhabited land, or make one (Crossroads, Eluvians), and there the elves can build a nation of their own. He is, already doing a Moses now that I think about it. Did he make a mistake by creating the Veil? Who knows... we don't know the full situation nor the circumstances leading to it. It may not have been intended for the Veil to last as long as it has. It is up in the air and open for interpretation. But he did cast it and now he needs to dispel it. We, however, do not know HOW he plans to do this. We only know that he will. This raises a lot of questions. How will he remove the Veil? Will it be a violent tearing, like with the Breach, only on a grander scale? Would it be a gentle merging? Seamless... no one would notice. How it will effect the environtment? Will it be like a flood? An earthquake? Or... nothing? The sad part is... Solas ALSO does not know... so he won't be able to plan accordingly. He clearly states that 'your world must die', so there will be some destruction to be had. How will this effect the modern people of Thedas? Would it be like a sudden climate change (One day: warm and sunny. the next: snow and storms). In a conversation between Solas and Cassandra, after the latter's personal quest was done, they speak about the tranquil and how the rite was reversed. The mage who was freed of his tranquility, lost all control of his powers and emotions. In DA2, Karl Thekla, Anders' friend, had his tranquility briefly reversed. He had behaved fine, himself, but he's been tranquil for a very short time. I believe that will be the effect on people... the veil was there all their lives... and suddenly removing it with kill all of them, save the strongest who will survive the sudden influx of power... likely the mages would have the highest chance of survival... For example: living in a cave for a year without stepping foot on the surface, in the dark... going out after you'd need special care to adjust to direct sunlight (sunglasses, not to burn your eyes, skincare etc. I believe there were news about a man who did live in a cave for a very long time but i forgot who it was). Another serious question is: What of the Evanuris? They will return for sure. Solas admits it himself. But will the Evanuris be as weak as Solas had been when he first woke up from Uthenera. Will they be at full power? How INSANE will they be after years and years of imprisonment? will they be rabid dogs or insane geniuses. Again we don't know. Solas doesn't as well. This raises another problem. He does not know where in Thedas the Evanuris will show up in... perhaps they would scatter and wreak havoc everywhere before they are stopped. this will make the other races despise the elven even more. 'If the Humans had left the Elves alone he wouldnt have needed to tear the veil'. This statement is just plain wrong. Solas never had ANY respect for the Dalish or the city elves. Never bothered to understand their plight. Never bothered to teach them properly. (There's only so much 'I saw it in the Fade'-line can get you). He doesn't know how to communicate with them. What is worse... he does not WANT to! The elves have endured centuries of enslavement to different masters and yet they still survive to this day and instead of finding comfort in the fact that they had survived so much, he scorns them for forgetting the old ways and who they were... without taking into account that they have no way of gleaning the truth. And even then he belittles and pities them. Even if elven were on top they would still be but a fraction of their true selves. Solas might even hate them even more for it, but that is pure speculation. The veil is not killing them. It just made them mortal, that's all it did. But in Solas' eyes that is flaw, because as an immortal, it is not something he would ever comprehend. He is incapable of it. People will fight him back... not because he is wrong or right, but because he threatens so many people's livelyhoods, families and cities. The status quo is part of it, sure... but solas' actions with affect everyone: the good. the evil. the passive. the innocent... no one will be spared. The whole situation reminds me heavily of Noah's Ark... when God sent a great flood to purify the land because people had become so sinful even he was disgusted. Whether is for better or worse, remains to be seen.

mirrandas 101 No, His agent's told the Venatori how to locate His orb for Corypheus. So when he activated it he would die from the explosion = kill him, and then he would reclaim the orb and use it to torn down the veil. But he didn't know that Corypheus had figured out how to become immortal.

MinecraftPro15 Not true. Elves natural state is immortality Solas himself, abelas and the sentinels, titans, old gods, etc.. All of those are immortal. All elves would be immortal too were it not for the Veil Solas created that reshapes all reality.

In the proper version of this scene he says 'it wasn't the arrival of humans that caused *us* to begin aging'. Solas was in uthenera since the veil until 9:40 (well that's what he says at least), and the sentinels were in uthenera too, only waking up when they needed to fight. So it's possible they age when 'awake'.

@@Valyrianalien As positive as anyone can be. Solas, abelas and the others arent your normal elves. They know magic thousands of years beyond whats currently in dragon age. Solas only went to sleep so long because of the spell he cast to create the veil. Abelas and the others? Its a fair point but waking up doesnt cause them to die. I imagine they can be awake for x amount of time, go back to sleep and regain any lost vitality. Elves arent human, so whatever their connection to the fade is in biological. Or spiritual.
