Nooonono. Please! The good games are so few in numbers nowadays. Politic sh*ts are destroying so many good things in game, movie and music indistries. Can we just appretiate every good piece of art that is comming to life in these troubled times? "The Witcher", "ME trilogy", "Dishonored", "DA"... The world is richer with those and more masterpieces. Both games are beautiful and don't deserve to be insulted.

@@youtubestuff683 Origins and Inq are great. Awakening was awesome, a proper expansion for the game as I remember. I need to play 2 again and see what I think about it now, because I was disappointed when it got out. I enjoyed the combat more in 2, but that was it really, well except for all the waves ofc. Being based in the city too much bothered me, and I always hate time jumps xD I did play 2 more times than 1 I think, but come on, how long isn't Origins, it takes a while. I need to get the game modded and play it once again after 10 years. I actually have the Nexus page up and all, just need to install them all

@@MantraHerbInchSin The 3rd one inquisition was actually my least favorite I just could not get into it to play it. I think its graphics, plus its play style just really through me off (it looks great graphics wise, just doesn't look like a dragon age game to me personally) like I said I haven't played much of it, and I keep trying to get into it, but it just doesn't feel like a dragon age game, it feels like its trying to be a different franchise

When my friend first introduced me to the dragon age series, he first showed dragon age 2, saying that it is the only game in the series worth playing (Inquisition wasn't out yet). Loved two and eventually got around playing origins. If I knew I would have told him to shut his mouth. I mean this is amazing. Great music, characters and story which is what I love in a game. And the fact that there are different origin stories makes it spoilt for choice. Certainly hope they do this for the next mass effect game

The original Neverwinter Nights was the game that got me into rpg. It was so mind blowing the first time I played it. Then I eagerly played NWN 2 as soon as I got it. I didn't know those could be topped, but that's exactly what Dragon Age Origins did. It was kind of an improved version of the NWN series, with the same well-written story and script. DA 2 was fine for me, although origins was still better. Can't wait to play Inquisition, despite the mixed reviews. Hats off to Bioware!

When I played Dragon Age II all I could notice about the soundtrack was how similar it was to Origins and I thought that the game was so rushed that they had to reuse a lot of Origins soundtrack. Now listening to them back to back, I realize that they are two separate soundtracks, and while some of Dragon Age II's soundtracks may be similar to Origins, it has its own unique undertones and added instruments that give its own vibe.

Um.. is it possible DA2 uses the battle theme from Leliana's DLC as well? I could swear I've heard the one that plays at 1:28:08 a few times in DA2. On a sidenote: I'm replaying the games right now (Origins & DLCs done, now DA2) and I must say, the sequel is by far not as bad as I remembered it to be and I really hated it years ago. I played very many MMOs in the last years, so I'm kind of okay with clone dungeons today, they don't bother me as much as in the past. The second game is not as bad as many "newer" RPG games, for me it's even more entertaining than Fallout 4 because the companions are so much better written. And those two story DLCs... wow, so much better than Far Harbour or Nuka world, especially the end of "The Darker Side" was so good, the last scene almost made me cry (play that DLC during act 3, it has the biggest emotional effect around that time). Great soundtrack, thanks for sharing it with us.

Dragon age II is a great game. It is at worst a flawed masterpiece. If Bioware had like a few months or a year more to polish the game, it could very well be remembered (by most people) as being a game as great as Origins. I would assume a lot of the bad opinions on this game came from playing the version of the game when it was first released - the DLCs of this game were fantastic and added a lot of content to the game. Also the nightmare difficulty was unreasonably difficult during the (roughly) first half of the game without the DLC items. The main plot of the game was so impressively well-written and well-presented (in video game form), meaningful and thought-provoking (and interestingly very relevant to the real-world social and political affairs of recent years). The companions were also very well-written and well-presented, despite their being a bit more generic (in the context of western RPG) than the companions in Origins. The combat was also interesting, fun and (appropriately) challenging (at least that's the case with the DLC items) - it is not any worse than the combat of Origins, if not better. It is extremely and absolutely unfair to say Dragon Age II is a bad game. I most certainly consider this game a masterpiece despite its flaws.

I remember when it came out me and my brother were hyped for it! We pre-ordered it and had high-expectations since we loved Origins (it's the most played one - maybe 20 times at least). I wasn't as impressed with it as I had wanted to be, but in no way did I hate it. It was different and suited its period of time - unlike Origins and Inquisition, it wasn't about saving the world. It was just trying to make Kirkwall home. I personally disliked the combat (being a warrior is my go-to, but in DA2 it's so difficult to do any real damage and being a sword and shield is like trying to cut down a tree with a blunt knife) - it was a little too fast for me, but Origins was a little slow. My favoured combat is probably a mix of Inquisition and Origins, but it wasn't awful in DA2. Just annoying for warriors I found. It's certainly not my favourite and I personally didn't find it as memorable, but I didn't mind it at all. For me, it wasn't awful, but it missed the mark just a little for me. It had plenty of potential to be better - more maps rather than the same ones, a better soundtrack etc: but EA rushed Bioware a lot, so it came out when it wasn't quite polished. Inon Zur said himself that DA2 OST wasn't his favourite - EA rushed him with it. I vaguely remember enjoying it, but for me, it's not Origins or Inquisition (but that's also because I'm more of a 'save the world'' person, so in a way, I feel unable to judge 2 since it isn't 'save the world'). Looking back though, I didn't enjoy most of the companions - I remember hardly any banters, conversations etc. But that's also who the characters are in a 'help Kirkwall' way rather than 'save the world'. Probably in an Origins or Inquisition setting I'd enjoy the characters more, but it doesn't make them bad by any means. Just... so-so for me. DA2 was great and has its place. I don't hate it, also don't love it. But I'd still enjoy playing it again and I still enjoy the OST. When I was younger, I was certainly more ignorant of the flaws since I played it for enjoyability. I don't know how I'd view it now since it's been five years, but I'd probably still enjoy it for what it is and is meant to be in conjunction with the DA saga. It just wasn't quite there memorability wise for me personally, which is the main reason why it's my least favourite. But it's not like it's the worst thing in the world: everything's there, just all kinda... merges together. My gripes are very tiny, however, and mainly come down to 'not quite what I was expecting'.

@@kimberleygray7390 Hey! Thanks for the reply. My experience of the combat of the game is different from yours since I played only mage and rogue for Hawke. If you haven't tried the Nightmare difficulty, I would recommend you to try it (since you are a veteran player of the DA series) as I found it to be a really good experience. I played a female dual-wield rogue for two playthroughs 8 years ago when the game first came out and female force mage in my newest playthrough very recently. Did you try the game with all the DLCs? I think the game is much better with DLCs as I elaborated before. The newest version of the game also has a high-resolution texture option. I actually didn't find the game so memorable until I started the newest playthrough! For some reasons, I was not able to fully appreciate the brilliance of the plots (especially the main plot) and the characters 8 years ago. I guess my life experience in the past 8 years did make me see many things more clearly than before. Now I'm very impressed with the general theme(s) of the game. It shows in such a heart-felt way the complexity of the problems of the society, difference between different societies and their philosophies of life (with the Qunari), how difficult it is to do what is right, the often unavoidable "tragedy" (depends on how you see it) of life and how tragedies can occur due to actions of non-malicious if not good intentions, often by chance. As a benevolent player character, even if you did everything you could to prevent the situation from going very bad to a "point of no return", you will still inevitably fail. As a good person always trying to do "the right thing", you will inevitably become an enemy of people from all sides, including the very kinds of people you were risking your life to save. All of these present in my view a quite realistic representation of the situation in the real world. In Act 2, neither the Arishok nor the Viscount were very much responsible for the crisis at all - in fact they were both honorable and (mostly) good leaders. Neither of them wanted to be in the bad situation and did what they could to prevent the situation from going worse, yet the situation nevertheless went out of hand because of the vicious scheming of some minor forces in Kirkwall (mostly lead by Petrice and Varnell). One might blame the situation on Isabela because she stole the relic, however despite what she appeared to be, she was fundamentally a good-hearted person and only stole the relic to prevent herself from getting killed for freeing slaves - she caused all the trouble not out of malice, but her compassion for the slaves which in fact got herself into deep trouble, and she had to steal the Qunari relic rather than some other expensive stuff simply [by chance] (since if she had to steal some other expensive stuff maybe no tragedies would occur)! So in this plot, despite that the Viscount, the Arishok, and Isabela all acted with good, or at least non-malicious intents, tragedy nevertheless occurred, due to only the scheming of some mere minor figures (and the mobs they lead) and simply by chance. In addition, the Qunari philosophy of life was contrasted with that of the Free Marches, exposing problems of the "free society", such as that the "free society" actually forces certain group of people to become poor and marginalized so that they may resort to criminal activities, whereas the Qunari society does not have this problem. (The Qunari mage Ketojan asked Anders "What comfort has freedom brought you mage? You would have more if you submitted to the Qun".) This makes one ponder what "freedom" really means and what the "free society" calls "freedom" might not in fact be what "freedom" is really about, while at the same time the game also defends the value of the "freedom" of "free society" with the actions of Hawke, his/her companions and the Viscount's forces. In regard to the mage-templar conflict and in particular Act 3, the situation is very similar. Both the mages and templars had their plights and causes, and there were evil extremists on both sides and good people on both sides. Neither First Enchanter Orsino nor Knight-Commander Meredith were fundamentally evil people. They both had understandable reasons to do what they did due to the extremism on both sides. If you try to do the right thing and help both the mages and templars as much as possible, you'd be attacked by the people from both sides (including people with good intentions!), despite all your attempts to avoid the conflicts. For example, you could be doing all you could to help the mages who were severely and unjustly oppressed by the templars to acquire freedom, but no matter what you do, your own mother would be killed by an apostate blood mage (and I felt very emotional about it during my newest playthrough) in Act 2. In Act 3, Thrask, a good templar who was trying to make mages and templars help and understand each other rather than hate each other, decided to kidnap your sibling or companion (depending on your choices in the game) for a good cause and out of what he perceived to be necessity. If you showed him your support, he would agree to release the hostage, but he would then be killed by the extremist mage named Grace whom you risked your life to save from the templars in Act 1. You would also be attacked by Grace and forced to kill her. Throughout the game, the crimes from both the templars and mages are well-represented and make you understand the plights and causes of both sides. In the end, despite all the conflicts between the mages and templars in Kirkwall, if Anders wasn't influenced by the spirit Justice or if Meredith wasn't influenced by the Red Lyrium Idol, maybe nothing nearly as bad would have occurred. However, Anders allowed Justice to possess him not out of malice but (I would assume) good will, whereas Meredith acquired the Red Lyrium Idol [by chance] - and you discovered it in the Deep Roads [by chance], as surely it was not your goal to bring a powerful and dangerous object that would turn a person evil onto the surface. All of these show the complexity of some social problems and that no matter how good and competent people try to do the right things with all the good intentions they have, tragedies still happen, as if they are bound to happen by fate. We can only hope to mitigate the damage and learn from them - the "tragedy of life" one might call it (in the sense that such tragedies are inherent to life). Also some of the banters between Sebastian and Fenris make one ponder the issue of whether all the sufferings in the world exist for the greater good. This game also shows the "family side of things" and can get a player (such as myself) very emotional, and (besides what was mentioned earlier) other social problems such as discrimination and marginalization of refugees (e.g. captain Jevan lead mobs against Fereldan refugees and tried to kill you, a former Fereldan refugee, in Act 3), other foreigners (e.g. the Qunari were vilified and unjustly blamed for the problem of Kirkwall) and people of certain races (e.g. elves), religious fanaticism, mob violence (often from mobs who are fanatical or self-righteous), violent extremism from not only the oppressors but also the oppressed (e.g. from the mages, the elves and Fereldan refugees) and slavery (related to Tevinter Imperium, Kirkwall's history, Fenris and Isabela). All of these are very relevant to our real world and I found them to be very thought-provoking (in a very good way). I have more to say about this game but this reply is getting a bit too long for a RU-vid comment, so I'll stop it here. I hope what I wrote here is useful. PS: Besides Anders' and Isabela's companion plots, the companion plot for Merrill is also about how her actions of good intentions (and perhaps folly) caused great tragedy. She was exiled, marginalized and ended up getting keeper Marethari, a mother figure for her (whom she deeply loved and respected and who deeply loved her), possessed by a powerful (pride) demon and killed by her and her companions. Depending on your choices, it's also possible that her entire clan would be killed by her and her companions, despite that she had not the slightest intent to let this happen (and if you are playing a good Hawke, you would not want it to happen either; yet by picking the seemingly innocuous "Marethari was possessed" dialogue option, you would be forced to kill Merrill's entire clan). In my newest playthrough I was forced to kill Merrill's entire clan and I was really impressed by this whole tragedy and how unavoidable it was. Merrill is also a fine example of people who are solitary, individualistic, innocent and a bit awkward in many ways - people who are often misunderstood, marginalized and persecuted by the society and who must defy the society in order to simply "be themselves". Their "individualist" goals of noble intents might cause serious trouble or even tragedies for them and their societies, as in the case of Merrill, but also as the game shows for Merrill (especially if you romanced her) that despite these troubles or tragedies, such goals and such an "individualist" life are nevertheless worth pursuing. Your killing Merrill's clan to save her makes the statement that the life of one person is not simply less important than the lives of many, a statement asserting the value of an individual (and the value of one's caring or loving the individual).

I played DAO straight from one end to the other, still replay it occasionally. One of the most compelling sets in gaming history. Great characters, great music, great story. DAII is only good if you focus on the story and only if you play a set few types of Hawke. DAI...yeah, by then EAs finger was so deep up BioWare's ass it couldn't be anything but a tremendous failure. Much like MEA now is. Pity the old BioWare team doesn't team up once more to write more great stories. They don't have to be DA, or ME, i'd play anything written by the old guys as a group sand the bad eggs. I'll never forget EA for what they did.

The Baldur's Gate series was Biowere's Best work EVER! The first Dragon Age was also very good.
