Well spoken video, nice to see some reason among all this BS. What's most annoying to me is that BG3, a video game that was inspired by the DA games (as well as BG 1 and 2 obviously), was nearly universally praised for how in depth and fun it was, and still had these LGBTQ+/minority options and characters, and it still won game of the year in 2023. And from the gameplay and lore implications we've seen so far (can't say anything with certainty until it's out) DA4 has the potential to match that, but it's never going to be GOTY 2024. Partly that's because of stiff competition with Wukong, P3R, and Space Marines 2, but it's also because people are whining about the same things that BG3 also had; LGBTQ+ and minority characters and customization options that you DON'T HAVE TO ENGAGE WITH. As a long time DA fan it's maddening.

Dragon Age & Mass Effect are 2 of my favorite franchises. So far the game looks interesting , yeah I'm not happy with the butt slider (I like big butts) but who cares about optional content. Everybody hated on Star Wars Outlaws and that is a very fun game.

Nobody is being forced to play anything they don't want to. But to people who do want to, it can be quite significant. Imagine if you'd never seen a male character in a video game, or if you did they were almost always a joke in some way. Then there's a game where you can play as a man, and your character is respected - not for being a man, but just for what they do. At any rate, it's only a game. What, exactly is the harm being done? Im excited for the veilguard. Im a dragon age fan i have been for years. My fiance, who never played a dragon age game he is gonna play it. Also, he and both played baldur's gate 3 and hogwarts legacy. For us, he and i don't care. We will just play games to have fun.

As long as it's a choice and I'm not forced to use it, Im not going to abandon one of my favorite game franchises. It's not like they took established characters and totally changed them. These are original characters.

It is still a game claiming to be inclusive, when in fact, it is not. That's the main problem. It includes an option for top surgery scars, including the trans community. But it does not include an option to have big butt and breasts, excluding a significant portion of the female community. Publicly pretending to be something you're not always has consequences. I know that this is just a video game, but it's still a product that is hoping to be bought with hard-earned money.

The arguments about the character creator hold no weight. Veilguard is not the first RPG to have transgender included stuff in character creator, and it wont be the last. Take Cyberpunk and BG3 into consideration where you can literally put a peen on a woman's body and use non-binary pronouns. That didn't stop people from buying those games, so why should it be the death of Veilguard? Vitiligo also isn't new to character creators, and I hear people complaining about Veilguard for including this, too. These are just character creator options. Just don't use them if you don't want or like it. People who are over sensitive about this are sometimes just as annoying as the over obssessed wokie. Nobody is forcing anybody to be transgender in Veilguard just because the option is avaliable.

It’s amazing to me how many people assume that every game made has to cater to their very specific requirements and if any game is not made precisely for them, they feel justified in making it everyone else’s problem. It’s just a video game. It’s not worth getting that angry. It’s OK for games to be made that appeal to people that are not you. If a game or franchise is central to how you view yourself as a person and any change to the franchise feels like a personal attack, you have issues. Get help. If I am not interested in a game, I do not seek out videos done by people who do like the game so that I can tell them how stupid they are for liking something I’m not interested in. If I’m disappointed in an entry in a franchise that I love…well that’s it. I’m disappointed in an entry in a franchise that I love. Hey man. I appreciate you voicing your thoughts, and I urge you not to discredit the importance of your voice and opinions throughout all this ridiculousness. The reason that I think some people get so utterly incensed if they perceive that a game caters to an inclusive audience is because they interpret it as an out-and-out endorsement by a widely respected AAA company of a lifestyle they don't support and, frankly, would prefer to see squashed. Personally, I think this ultimately ends up being a "vocal minority" type of situation, but they want to convince people that that majority of gamers feel the way they do - which is honestly just not true in our current day and age. I actually think that most people fall into your mindset when it comes to this issue, and it's important to remember that the stance of social indifference is a really important one to voice when you're talking about combatting what amounts to hate speech for a group of people.

I'm excited for this game and glad the pre-orders are meeting expectations from bioware and EA. I've been a fan since its inception and I don't understand the arguments either but it is what it is. More fun for the rest of us

The fact that anyone would take criticisms of a game as a way to amplify their transphobia is exactly why this kind of representation is necessary, it’s only going to create more representation-not prevent it.

First of all, I have to say, "I DONT CARE ABOUT THIS OPTION BEING IN THE GAME." The more options, the better! But you have to ask yourself "why" is it in the game? Why this feature? How many people actually have (or want) top surgery? (No hate... you do you). I have to think the number is pretty small. There are many other groups of people with a MUCH higher percentage of the population not represented. How about amputees (for example)? Why are they not represented. But is this also the reason many of the characters are ugly, weird, and androgynous (in my opinion, of course)? I dont like the art style, or the character design, BUT I REALLY HATE THE COMBAT! 'Looks like an MMO game (League of Legends anyone?). I was excited about this game until I saw it... now its a "maybe". We'll see... maybe on sale... after the modders fix it?

I don't get the controversy. Bioware has always used DA to unapologetically push the boundaries of inclusion. It's how this universe was built that outside the different species and cultures, people being a bit different is unremarkable or a passing curiosity at most. This is nothing new.

The main problem of this game is not inclusion... The art design is bad; Darkspawn and monsters are now somehow cute; qnaris are just humans with horns... And the lack of beauty... well, beauty is part of the fantasy and this is a fantasy game... Morrigan, Leliana, Alistair, Hawk, Vivienne... Who wants to be around the ugly in a 100hrs scapism game? We already have the mirror. A game is too superficial to create real human connections. Because of that, beauty counts on the engagement. Do you wanna play with an ungly character? Nice, but remember that inclusion is the opposite of exclusion. And also, the infantilized dialogs shown so far... It's not a dark fantasy anymore... it's a kid's safe place... For all those that grew up playing dragon age, this game is not for you. If you enjoyed DAO back in 2009, you are probably too old for this modern audience style of game. Unfortunatelly, Bioware and EA don't care about old fans and they want to gether a new generation of fans. They should, at least, have finished the original Inquisition arc and made a reboot... Now they have a rebooted brand to close a chapter opened 11 years ago.

Good video! And you're absolutely right, it's all optional character creator shit. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to put those OPTIONAL features when creating your character. A big point I also wanna make though, baldurs gate 3 had an option that allowed players to set their character pronouns she/he/they, and I, at least, don't remember a single person or content creator big or small criticizing this OPTIONAL feature. Didn't affect gameplay or anything of that nature, it was just there if someone wanted to change it to their preferred pronoun, which is cool with me you do you however you want, cuz at the end of the day it's a video game! And oh look, bg3 went on to win game of the year for 2023, and almost everyone was cool with it. So to judge a game before it's even out and just focusing on this one tiny ass feature instead of more reasonable shit like the gameplay or the story or the set pieces/characters, etc. Is just mind-boggling to me. But that's just my opinion 🤣

You could have said this about Concord. There is a culture war going on and I want the game to succeed and sell well at the very least enough to keep the studio open so we get another Mass Effect. However Bioware gave ammunition to the anti-woke people. Because of the recent flops and projected flops that are predicted the anti-woke crowd is or has been against those and their predictions/ evaluations have been proven correct. So they feel their criticisms about this game are correct as well and they believe the game will flop. And they may be correct.I hope they are wrong but they may be correct. My view is Bioware put themselves in a bad light unnecessarily and now they may pay the price for it.

The 2nd thing u mentioned about concord character designs not being liked and they could have made better designs as updates. That's terrible, especially when your competition is doing it right out of the gate and for free. I do agree that gameplay did feel good aside from being a bit slow.

I've seen more backlash for an optional feature in Veilguard than choosing the actual bear in BG3.

You know what it is? It's the *exclusion* for the sake of "inclusion". Like how can you not have a character creator where you can't create regular people? Especially when the history of the series isn't like this at all.

I am a bit annoyed about the bum and boob sliders not working. They put the choice right there and as soon as you try to use it they go , no,no you can't do that, not allowed. It's as if they have done it on purpose to highlight or bring to your notice that woman are not to to look attractive. I don't know, these people are nuts, none of it makes sense. Why give the option if they are going to slap your hand when you try to use it?

It is one thing that the character creator is woke af and you're right about that, it doesn't matter. ...BUT... Will these pushy woke politics affect the game's story, the characters, and other things aswell? Will this stuff be heavily and forcefully pushed into your face often throughout the game while you'll play the story? Some people just don't want content they're interested in nor content they're not comfortable with. But the way I see it, the devs and the game's director (who is trans ofc) want to force their LGBTQAI2S+ politics into the game heavily. Will this result in pushing their politics and agenda into the player's face for the majority of the playthough? So that's a different question and we still don't have an answer for that. We get an answer after the game's release it seems. I'll stay sceptical about it until I'll see non-IGN reviews once the game will release. No offense, but what I've written above might be uncomfortable for a lot of people if the game will have that kind of content. What we have seen so far and what informations we red about the game so far, well... I can understand the hate towards the game and the devs. Don't get me wrong, I loved the previous DA games, but I recognise when the devs are prioritising their own needs over of the player base's needs and I see when devs are trying to make a game for themselves and not for the players to satisfy themselves over the players, and sadly, that is what I see. I truly have hope that it will not be the case, because I'm a Mass Effect and Dragon Age fan, and I loved Bioware's games before Mass Effect: Andromea and Anthem. I relly hope that in the end The Veilguard will be a decent game that everyone will be able to enjoy. Tho, my advise is: #DoNotPreOrder and wait until the OG Dragon Age fanbase's reviews, don't take the IGN and other company reviews for granted.

Usually, when you need an escape, you don't run straight towards whatever it is you're trying to escape from. I usually tend to play a character who is entirely different from who I am in real life. If I wanted to be me, with all of my problems, I could just step away from the computer. One of the issues I have with the scars option is not that it is there, but how it is presented. There are tons of reasons for people to have scars and I'm sure there are options for some of those. All grouped together in a scars option. They could have put the controversial scars in there but they had to make a statement. It's deliberately there to virtue signal, cause controversy and should the game fail, to have an excuse to point at the "bigots". With all the focus in the coverage that they have on the romance and inclusivity, I'm worried it will be to the detriment of the overall story. What with romance in games usually being cringeworthy at best, if that's the main focus, I'll pass. So I will just wait and see when the game releases, how the word of mouth is and base any purchasing decisions on what I see then.

The problem is major platforms are marketing the game with those terms instead sharing anything about how the actual game is like what kind class you can play , how does it feels to play blade mage etc etc never talked about, there is no way of knowing actually how good is the story is or the combat feels like because they never marketed it, and with this really backdated graphics/art style kinda makes people anxious. I feel like they should give everyone a free 4-5 hours demo (minus char creation time) to truly see if they should buy the game or not, whether it is scam or not.

The answer to your first question is that ppl care because they heavily limited the customisation options so that you can only create characters in a image they see as acceptable.

I’ve never played dragon age, so this would be my first. I enjoy games like Elden ring, Skyrym, god of war, BM wukong, Helldivers 2, remnant from the ashes……. This game looks like a Disney Pixar movie and I’m not just talking about the character creator, the actual monsters look like they’ve been made more kids, they’re terrible. I was hoping this would be darker and grittier The combat is like you are looking through a rainbow kaleidoscope with max bloom. It just doesn’t look like a good game, and that’s all I’m interested in. It’s not for me but I hope you enjoy it.

It absolutely matters. The money, effort and attention have completely been refocused because of these initiatives. The faces have been feminized and cartoonish. DEI teams alone cost a ton of money, when diversity has already been a natural part of gaming.

Finding out about the inclusion of top surgery scars made me really happy since I'm getting surgery a couple weeks before the release of the game. I was really disappointed when I saw the reception online, and it really surprised me, because the Dragon Age series has always been "woke". People find something new to complain about every release 🙄

Concord is $40 game in over saturated market compared to other competitor are free to play. Dude, its not just woke stuff which is annoying many long time fans of Dragon Age. A big problem for me is the complete change of art style, of game mechanics to the point where it might as well not be Dragon Age at all, the lack of any visual improvement over its 10 year old predecessor & what looks like an inferior game to what came before. I ask, would Harry Potter fans like it if the next Hogwarts game of their franchise comes out and instead of it being a light hearted, immersive wizard adventure game, its instead a blood soaked gore game with sex, demons and mutilation. The same thing has happened to Dragon Age in reverse. A dark, bloody fantasy game has turned in to a Saturday morning cartoon with enemies which look like they came out of Ghostbusters... Just imagine how modern warfare shooter gamers would feel if the next title of their favourite franchise game was revealed and it was nothing like the 3 previous titles... They wouldn't be happy ether. Dragon Age used to be a dark, desperate world with people fighting for survival. The grim dark art style, with blood combat and executions was cool & it was a tactical rpg with in depth character class trees and cool companions with interesting back stories alongside a great programable tactics system. Now its an inferior action combat game, with janky animations, a smaller party which you cannot swap to or command in any meaningful way the companions you are with who look and sound like they came out of a game like Overwatch... Yea, fans like me are not happy. We had to wait 10 years for a new Dragon Age and this is garbage we are being sold... Which might fail so badly EA just ends Bioware for causing yet another massive commercial failure. On top it if being inferior to previous titles, its graphic are no better than Inquisition, a decade old game (eventhough some physics have improved) & there are blatant modern day race and gender politics injected in this game. I did not know the game director was trans, but that really explains the injection of woke politics, which will no doubt impact the story, dialogue choices and other things in the game as well. Many people like that in the gaming industry seem incapable of keeping their personal politics out of their work & end up using it as a platform to preach. This woke nonsense immediately divides people. When you inject real world political ideals in to a product, those who oppose it will not support the product & as Concord proved, even woke people don't care enough to buy it. Hence why games should be immersive, faithful to their source material & do not include ANY real world politics. Space Marine 2 & Black Myth Wukong's massive success, along with the devs openly saying that immersion was their top priority shows why they had such massive successes. I couldn't care less if you or anyone else buys and like this game, if you do that's cool. But don't just dismiss the very valid criticism people like me have with the massive disappointment presented to us...
