This game deserved so much better, it sucks this game was shoved out as an unfinished product, This game is genuinely one of the best looking Dragonball Games ever!
The Devs spread themselves too thin developing both this, Infinite World (Which is also unpolished/incomplete) and Street Fighter 4. They should’ve scrapped Infinite World and make Burst Limit more complete imo.
@@drag0nchampi0n no Buu saga Menu was dry and felt rushed Transformations have all the same vibe/animation The gameplay needed a bit more polishing and ended up being too much of a copy of the previous games, which is fine but still This is a great game, just suffered a lot
I absolutely loved this game as whole but I think the development team was rushed to put the game out thus giving us less content compared to the previous Budokai titles (including Infinite World since it's Budokai 3 definitive/refined edition). But I feel that they can rerelease this onto new gen consoles (like PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X, PC, Switch, and Steam). Surprisingly the graphics still holds up pretty good to this day but there's hardly game modes like World Tournament & etc.
As a Budokai 2 and 3 mega fan the Tenkaichi series didnt hit the spot for the "gameplay" i wanted from the series and when this came out i got so fucking hype, imagine my disappointment when it was so undercooked 😭😭😭
I remember not liking this game when it first came out. It's because I was spoiled by Tenkaichi 3. But as the years went on I realize how good this game actually was and I'm upset that it never got a sequel.
I prefer Budokai 1. Him saying "NOW I'M MAD" hits harder for me. Him saying "NOW I'M TRULY ANGRY" reminds me of something an angry british bloke would say
I remember first getting a Xbox 360 and playing the demo of Burst Limit and being blown away by the demo. I thought the main release was going to be the greatest DBZ ever. I was ready to leave the Budokai series in the past. Then when it officially released it was a fine game.
At this point, the lack of context in the story mode just feels like the devs were just sick of recreating the same story for the 9001th time. I just wished anime licensed games took the superhero comics route and did whatever they wanted with the story instead of being faithful.
When you really think about it this alongside the shin budokai games are one of the last Budokai games we ever got. But with the trailer of the new Budokai Tenkaichi game we might get another Budokai game in the future
If I’m going to play this game ever again it’ll be for the Xbox 360 that gives achievements this dragon ball z wasn’t so fun to play it was xbox 360 PS3 first dragon ball z game ever when it got released PlayStation still didn’t have trophies 🏆
I LOVES THIS GAME SO MUCH GROWING UP! Till this day it's my 2nd favorite dragon ball game, I will always wish it gets remastered!! That intro song is too damn gooddd
I clicked on this video because I am formerly the best player in the world on this game when it was actually relevant. I'm not sure what people mean by "unfinished". If you're referring to the game only going to the Cell saga; that's because that saga is the original storylines conclusion. This game also serves as a reboot to Budokai as it is also made by Dimps. My favorite Dragon Ball game by far. Balanced unlike the other Budokai games. Great graphics. I'd also say this is the most competitively sound Budokai game too. I miss it.
I cant lie that burst limit theme stood with me when i think of this game too. Whenever i check out dbz games i eventually stumble back to burst limit and get reminded of the main theme. I remember having conversations with a friend of mines about how i thought this game was pretty good vs how he thought it was underwhelming. Fun times
The game was an incomplete sequel to Budokai with DBZ Budokai 1 amount of content. The gameplay mechanics was epic asf but there weren't enough characters.
I came across this game accidentally and it was truly one of the best even tho it’s was incomplete the music is truly GOATED with everything else on top of that
Anyone remember the DBZ Burst Limit commercial where everyone shout Kamehameha in every situation and alot of Yotube video try their own Kamehameha commercial? I'm kinda miss that kind of commercial...
This was actually the first dbz game I ever played and then I got BT2 on Christmas that year and let's just say that was the biggest whiplash I've ever gotten. From having barely any story cohesion to having the story completely explained was insane
one of my favorite things about this game is actually the voice acting, particularly sean schemmel’s goku. he just went so hard in this game for some reason
This game has my favorite version of the I am speech it feels like the best mix of the original lines and dub lines staying true to goku's original character
Always enjoyed the gameplay of Burst Limit taking influence from Shin Budokai, only thing it didnt take that it should have was Aura dashing, which Infinite World brought to the console Budokais. It really should have gotten a sequel.
Alright, after watching the budokai 3, budokai HD edition and now the burst limit Retrospektive i give up and sub your channel, the content is just too good :D
This is absolutely the best of the "Budokai" styled games for me. To date is *still* has the best version of Goku's first time going Super Saiyan ever.
I think the company wanted to make a next gen dbz games that split for the 3d version of dbz tenkaichi and 2d budokai .2 games next gen first with burst limit and then raging blast issue was burst limit sequal was cancelled and they just made the raging blast sequal instead. So the whole thing was scrapped as dtagonball games at the time were on the downturn
I actually really loved this game, I guess I was just taken in with it looking so good and being the first DBZ game of its console generation. I loved that opening theme too
I translated the Memorable intro song into English, at the beginning of the hook the singer says “Checking out my nutt sack, socking on a ki blast, looking out for dodge attaaaaacks, he just blew out his lode!”
Ah yes, burst limit, one of the last times they cared about matching the lip flaps to the English dub. I really liked it when it came out and then grew bored of it when raging blast came out and then really liked it again. Another great video, wonderful comedy "My fucking knee" and timing and a great explanation of every mechanic some of which I forgot about. Also, I loved the "I would really prefer if you'd be quiet" reference. I remember seeing that phrase in so many tomba videos, and I was so confused about why everyone was being so mean. Then I saw that speed run, and it clicked, lol. Also, speaking of tombi/tomba, if you haven't already, there's a great remix of the first soundtrack called the pig nose project. It sounds awesome, and he has a few songs from the second game as well.
I always just thought the game was unfinished because of the full cutscenes shown in the credits I assumed that they didn't have the time to get the voice lines and only had time to get to the cell saga
Thanks for this video! Except for me playing Tenkaichi in my youth we have the same history in DB games. This was also my final game until Xenoverse 2 and I remember thinking that this is where the quality started to plummet, yet simultaneously found it to be the last of the “good” DB games until Fighterz came along. Definitely where the seams started to show. Great video!
@@adrenaliner91It’s definitely a good game. It’s success speaks for itself. One of my favourite games but I understand why some people wouldn’t like it.
I remember when I won this game through a drawing contest. I absolutely loved it and damn it still looks so good! But yeah, unfortunately it's pretty lackluster...
26:56 Wow I just realized, this is supposed to be full power SSJ Goku versus Cell......but Goku’s gi is the one from the Raditz fight. Lazy! The PS2 games weren’t that lazy about the details. Great review as always!
Man, I remember playing the OG Budokai when I was 10 and they had lore accurate skins in the story mode in friggin 2002. Like, if goku was shirtless and beat up in the Frieza fight, we had it. If Recoome was in his ripped up skivvies? We had that. I swear the smaller details get lost in the spectacle of rushing games out for what was at the time supposed to be cutting edge hardware. PS2 and other consoles of that generations may have a nostalgia buff in my mind but, I feel like the fine tuning was WAY better when the game was actually good. Nowadays it's like "So objectively, it plays, and you can win. but you won't have fun finding out all the little loving details the devs were able to put in because, Deadlines." Sad.
The fact you started with the opening. Is why i liked it. You just HAVE to start with the opening. Its my favorite and I loved this game when i got it but it was so short and needed just a bit more in terms of gameplay
When you factor in that Infinite World was made for players who haven't upgraded to 360/ps3 era, it makes the context issue surrounding Burst Limit even more confusing. There are DBZ fans who grew up with DBZ through games, like me. Players who got to experience the DB stories already done so through Budokai and Tenkaichi games on ps2. They've experienced the story in variety of flavors. But those who never played or watched DBZ must have found themselves at loss as they played Burst Limit. It should have been that Infinite World was relegated to 2 sagas without the mini games and Burst Limit was given the full development it deserves. Better yet, Infinite World could have just been scrapped or delayed to put more effort into BL
Burst Limit was supposed to take Budokai into the next generation, but it ended up feeling more like a rushed remake of it while trying to up the spectacle. Even down to where they stop retelling the story.
