I use to have VHS tapes back then of DBZ episodes. Time record lost all of them when DVD came out. I don't remember who threw them out my mom or dad. But I had a lot. I even bought over 60 tapes. Recorded all on VHS when I knew I wouldn't be able to be in front of the TV. Because it was always late at night. So I had to sleep early to go to church on time early. It was always Saturday night too toonami and adult swim came out. On cartoonnetwork. That when church use to be nicer. I don't go to church no more. It like a gang now no matter where I go, work, school, church, streets, restaurants, stores etc. Back then VHS gold standard were the best cheapest of the best quality. All the other cheaper VHS suck only Record 1 hour the gold one were about 6 hours or Record time so I was able to record at least 12 episodes per tape. They were affordable about a dollar for one and they even went up to 3 dollars each until DVDs came out. And then MP3 player and flash drives and blue rays.
@@GothTV insane how things change. My grandmother had boxes of movies on TV with ads that I was meant to get and it never happened. Thanks for posting, its very much appreciated.
I wish there were more recordings like this with commercials and all, a doobie, some pizza and a cold one watching this as an adult is a different kind of level of ✨vibing✨
This was prime dbz, when all the Z fighters were at least somewhat close in power level and the show didn’t rely on a new transformation every episode to progress the story
@Zylo Wolf 2.0 Not everything. Funimation deliberately excluded the uncut Ocean dubs of the first three movies because they were pushing the narrative that everything dubbed with Ocean was censored. Tree of Might had two seperate dubs, this TV/Saban version and an uncut Pioneer version with Japanese soundtrack and more accurate script, it's also the version with Peter Kelamis as Goku instead of Ian Corlett. Also, the Ocean dub of the Z series continued in the UK and Canada for the Android saga onwards, US Toonami didn't broadcast it and it's never been released on home video anywhere.
@patrickstar That’s great! RU-vid is pretty hit and miss on what it will allow you to post when it comes to DBZ. I had to upload my other Toonami tapes on archive dot org. I am sure the community with love to see what you recorded!
Wow, being 15 years old in 2001 and looking back now being a 36 year old man definitely made me realize just how different the world was back then. I really enjoyed and appreciated the video 100%. I honestly didn't even pay attention between the ocean dubs and the Funimation dubs as a teen but now I can tell the difference yet it still doesn't matter Lol .seeing the movie in the ocean dub and the old-school commercials definitely made me feel nostalgia.
@@voraxe3032 thank you I appreciate it, things were bad like witnessing 9/11 and seeing it unfold on TV but there were good things on the other hand like the country coming together during that time and before 9/11 enjoying things like toonami in it's prime for an example.
Say what you want about the Ocean Dub, but when they got it right, they hit it out of the park. Just felt like every voice actor was giving it their all. Old school Toonami baby. You had a HUGE roll in making my childhood magical.
Mine turned the tv off while goku was turning super saiyan 3. i was like 12 years old. child abuse. they had to take anything that gave me joy, excitement and wonder to the dull dreary existence at my step mothers parents house. it was actually her father who turned the morning tv off as goku was powering up and obviously i was fixed to it. i think a kid at school was throwing rocks at me and my sister walking home around that time. i grabbed him and kneed him so hard he wemt flying through the air and slide down the road on his backpack.
Holy crap, it feels so weird hearing these commercials for the first time in 20 years. I knew I was gonna be sent down memory lane, but... damn! Speaking of 20 years, after that much time, I had completely forgotten how different this version was from the version I got on VHS when I was 14, 3 years after catching this on TV for the first time. The dialog for this version is almost completely different from the version I had on tape back then.
There were two versions of Tree of Might with the Ocean crew. The first is the Saban TV-edit that cut scenes out, altered dialogue, censored violence and used Ron Wasserman's score from the series. The second was the uncut home video version released through Pioneer. This version contained a more accurate dub and preserved the Japanese music.
@@chrisheimva4857 to be fair, the toonami dub is far greater. Oolong has a different voice actor and the guy who voiced Goku had been canned by the time the dvd came out, so the best Goku voice is missing. Plus some memorable dialogue is different. I was pretty disappointed when I saw it for the first time tbh.
@@Rillorolla Minor correction, Ian Corlett (Goku's VA from the TV edit) was not canned. He straight-up quite because voicing the character was very tiring on his vocal chords and thought the pay he was getting was not enough to justify the trouble. His biggest point of contention was that screams were not being counted as lines, which is ridiculous given there is A LOT of screaming in DBZ and screaming is the most taxing part of voice-acting. Also I'm more partial to Peter Kelamis but I do also wish the TV edit was more widely available so fans can have the option.
The commercials are the real gem here. Back in the day, when I would record things off of TV, I would actively try to start and stop the recording to "cut out" the commercials. Now, the commercials in old broadcasts like these are the most cherished parts. They are an absolute time capsule of the era and SO nostalgic. These are commercials we all likely saw dozens if not hundreds of times back in the day...and seeing them here and now unlocks these weirdly familiar memories.
Was born in 86 so this is bringing back memories of coming home from middle school and half assing my home work while watching DBZ and Gundam.. and AOL 6.0.. geez..
Same here! I really do miss watching Dragon Ball Z back as a Kid when it used to air on Toonami from on Cartoon Network back in the 90s. I can never forget my Childhood Memories I had back then.
@@JRneko Shuki Levy never had anything to do with Dragon Ball. He was only credited as such, but he never did the soundtrack. He was never the composer for Dragon Ball Z at any point in the Ocean dub. Haim Saban was just a greedy POS that he refused to give Wasserman any credit for DBZ.
Hell yeah, I remember I started watching Dragon Ball Z when it was aired on Cartoon Network's Toonami midnight run the first episode I ever watched was frieza's Counterattack when freeza was on his way to Earth to exact Revenge on Goku for defeating him on Planet Namek and suddenly trunks appeared at the end of the episode. I'm still a huge fan of the entire Dragon Ball franchise to this day and can never get enough. :-)
I loved the midnight runs as they was the uncut versions. I remember staying up with my friend and watching Yu-Yu-Hakusho uncut and there was a really graphic scene too twisted for me to look at and freaked me out
Yes! I watched the very first episode of DBZ on the Midnight Run and was hooked stayed up every night to watch…might have been exhausted at school the next day but so worth it for all of the shows that were on.
This version of The Tree of Might was actually my first introduction to the Dragon Ball franchise. Way back in the late 1990's. It used to come on WB channel 19 Saturday morning.
Those were the days It all started here for me haha I saw dbz once and got hooked I don't remember what was she first episode or movie I saw but I actually have the original version of this movie also like a whole collection of the original Funimation DVDs still a fan to this day also a big inspiration to my workouts and stuff I like gravity or body weight stuff
Man I feel old when watching the commercials from 22 years ago. Such a nostalgic feeling. Coming home from elementary school then in a few hours toonami came on or I'd be outside with my mom yelling " Billy, dragonball Z is on" then I ran inside with excitement, cup of iced coca cola, hot pockets, and let's not forget 3d doritos. God, those were the good ol days.
I was born in 7/90, around this time I was 11. Toonami consisted of Ronin warriors, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, DBZ , Hakusho etc. Elite adolescent programming that only a 90s adolescent would be able to identify with!
I remember this and all the commercials shown over 20 years ago. Ocean dub and original Funimation. The late 90’s and Early 00’s was the golden era for Cartoon Network.
I remember when this aired in '98. It was unflippin' real. Got made fun of as a kid and had to keep Toonami a secret for all of 5 years until it exploded across the culture.
Same here😂. Your not alone in this World who feels old as hell as years went by😭🌎. I miss being a Kid though & miss watching Dragon Ball Z Ocean Dub on Toonami when it air on Cartoon Network back in the 90’s/9️⃣0️⃣’s & even back in the 2000s/2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣’s. Back when Life was everything but now it will never be the same ever again anymore since it doesn’t be on Toonami anymore which is really sad nowadays. Never forget your Childhood Memories.
This recording makes me want to cry, such simple and peaceful times, what happened ): Thank you for uploading, I wish there were a lot more like this. Brings me back even if just temporarily.
This is a personal growth-type question. If this video made you cry, how would you rate your life in terms of overall satisfaction on a scale of 1-10; 1 being completely dissatisfied, 10 being completely satisfied. Try and answer as honestly as possible and use a scale of 1-5 if it makes a decision easier to make.
It was most likely peaceful times because of our ages at them times...i was early teen so i didnt have much shyt to worry bout especially world problems
This was my jam bro every episode of dragonball z on toonami on cartoon network. I lived for this man. I remember yelling at the villians and doing kamehameha with goku everytime. Ooo wait that was last night too. Man being 33 is the same as being a kid and watching 😂😂😂😂 I still live for this.
Man thank you for putting this video out this was the legendary blue ocean dub. It even was on the rock the dragon edition of DBZ which was a limited edition DVD box set. God I'm old this version was out when I was 17 god the memories thank you so much.
For those that don't know, that was a Spirit Bomb Goku threw to kill Turles. He already had all the pure energy he needed from nature to form it so quickly. To kill Freiza he needed energy from the whole galaxy which took more time, and was much larger.
This version of the Z-fighters is awesome, i miss how strong they were with the exception of Goku, Piccolo sbd Gohan being a little stronger, they were a polished team, and a family.
This movie blew me away when I saw it as a kid. I really do feel that this and the uncut 1998 VHS release are the best versions. That said... 46:32 😂 Holy hell, what an insane edit.
Okay did they edit Gohan's face to make it look like Turles WASNT forcing his eyes open? You can see like shadows around Gohans face in the exact shape of where fingers would be
As much as I like progress, I have real deep respect for the stories of those times. Goku was limited to Kamehameha, Kaioken, Dragon Fist and Spirit Bomb. Everyone had instant transmission it seemed. The writers had Goku use more smarts in the old days. They also made the moves reliable and somewhat believable . Didn’t need an entire new form, just a smart way to use the stuff you already have.
Growing up with this as a kid was a blessing. Now, after a hard days work i can head back my own home, put on DBZ, spark one up, with a ice cold cider and enjoy.
Oh god yes the nostalgia! This is the version of Tree of Might that will always be my favorite. We had such an adventure with DBZ going from the blue ocean dub into the funimation dubbing. Raise a glass 90s baby's and let's enjoy the PERFECT dubbing of Tree of Might
I really love Dragon Ball Z because I'm really a big huge Dragon Ball Z fan I've seen the movies and the series I totally Love Vegeta and Goku I saw everything about Goku and Vegeta those two Saiyans the relationship history and rivalry between Vegeta and Goku
Does anyone remember when Tom had his shipped wrecked and it was up to the viewers to vote for what the new ship would look like? I do man the memories 😄💯❤️
Haha, reminds me of when I as a kid watching Cartoon Network late night while everyone else where asleep. Wish I can go back, but I know I can't do that, so this is the closest that I will get to that. Thank for the recording and upload! This brought back so many memories.
I’m so glad I found your channel, this took me back to my childhood and made me shed a few tears of joy remembering coming home from school and watching this broadcast, the commercials are what really just flooded me with memories,I laughed at the scooby doo one because that movie came out in like the 60s but kid me thought it was new at that time, please never delete this, this is the best time capsule I’ve stumbled upon in my recent interest in revisiting my favorite aspects of my childhood because of how shitty life and the world has become in recent years and television not being as great as it was around this time. I’m so glad I got to grow up in the 2000s, the worlds sadly so different now
Same Here. Life Will Never Be The Same Ever Again Anymore Like It Used To Be Sadly Unfortunately. I Will Never Forget All About My Childhood Days Tho Not Even Till This Very Day
🥺 man everything back then felt like a special event what a time to be alive All the shows from Disney Nickelodeon Cartoon Network all made the Holidays feel like magical moments i wanna cry someone hold me 😢
I think Turles may have had one of the most painful deaths in DBZ history. The way he gets pushed through the whole tree while the spirit bomb rips him apart.
This is the original one for the ocean dub the Funimation one was different. This one was the voice of claw(from inspector gadget)and G1 Megatron I believe.
I have all the dbz movies from when they aired on VHS. Tree if might, world's strongest, garlic Jr I think was deadzone. I even have a bunch of the shows like ronin warriors, Gundam wing, tenchi muyo. Shit was trill back in the day.
You have one great channel this took me way back when times of life was more simple for everyone the commercials and classic DRAGON BALL Z with TOONAMI was awesome back then I use to record the same fun shows with my brothers and sisters VHS was DOPE if you have more bring them.😀📼💯👊🏼ITS A CRAZY GOOD FEELING THANK YOU
Good thing you were old enough to experience it, I barely remember it as a elementary student. But still always feels that special nostalgic feeling regardless :)
we're probably the last generation that's going to be able to remember a simpler time. Also why the hell was Bulma and everyone so shocked that the dragon balls actually worked after they themselves used them multiple times at that point.
Dude, I’ve got this same recording in my VHS collection. I recorded a lot of these movie slots Toonami did. I have around 15 tapes filled with commercials and all and I love putting them on before bed.
Just watching the intro alone was so fucking amazing. I’m going to save this for when I’m sitting in a nice comfy chair with a cigar and beer. The adult in me wants to experience this like i did as a child, but with my adult vices. Thank you for recording this.
