Dragon Quest 8 3DS - Jessica Ending (Alternate Marriage Ending) 

Wait... wait... so.. King Mustache had already decided to cancel the wedding before the ceremony ? So he pretended the wedding was still planned just to publicly humiliate his pig of a son ? This dude is awesome.

And now, the voice actors of the original (Japanese ver.) are married as well! The hero didn't have a voice until "Smash Brothers SP" in which he became playable from 7/31 in Japan and voiced just like the hero of DQ11. Last month, his voice actor Yuuki Kaji married Ayana Taketatsu, the voice actress of Jessica!

The fact that the Chancellor was caught in the act of sitting on Trodain's throne yet still kept his job is more shocking to me than the fact that there is an alternate ending where you marry Jessica.

I love this ending. I thought this scene was very touching. Jessica is far from being a damsel in distress. Her strong personality and amazing front (pun intended) made it easy to forget she is still can be feminine and have insecurities about romance. It took a back seat for revenge and proving she was just as tough as the next guy, but it was never explored in the ps2 version.

Huh. This is an interesting twist. I gotta say, I actually like this ending. The Hero's quite the stud, getting both Medea and Jessica. And while I do like Medea, Jessica is awesome and sexy as hell. The Hero's one lucky dude.

Best ending. I wish this had been in the original PS2 version. If only they would make an HD rerelease of this game like Kingdom Hearts.

I thought the Jessica marriage option would feel forced, but this is soooooo much better than the Medea route. Her scenes barely have any dialogue and it ends so abruptly!

I legit had the biggest smile in my face when I saw Jessica enter with her dress and wen she confessed her love I started tearing up I played the original on ps2 and the iPad game and the ending with princess Medea never really got to me like this one I was just never into them ending up together but Jessica and the Hero? Hell yes best ending of this amazing game! I beat the game literally 6 times just to keep seeing this ending I love it so much!!! And then they're holding hands wen walking to Alexandria loved that small detail! and when she calls him hubby so cute!!!

This was a sweet ending. So many fans of this game alone in the series wanted this to happen.

So this marriage is a 3DS exclusive only? Honestly, I wanted Jessica as my girls back then in the PS2 game.

I'm happy to be able to watch the English version and to see how many people celebrate it. I was waiting for this more than ten years, and it made me feel like I got married in the REAL world, when I played the Japanese version about a year and a half ago. When I played the PS2 version at the end of 2004, it inflicted me a big shock that the hero, who is the player himself, can marry only the princess (who's almost unknown for the player) by ignoring Jessica. Yes, as others say, it's definitely justice had finally been done. Thanks to God, thanks to Square Enix! Jessica's smile at the last scene means the whole world!

I've played the PS2 version of this game several times now and I have to admit I wondered what it would be like if Jessica had a wedding ending too. Now I know! I NEED TO GET A 3DS NOW!!!!!!

Seeing the arguments about this ending (both in Japan and in the English speaking countries) it reminds me that men and women feel a little differently about love itself. For a man, when he sees a woman in trouble he wants to help her without any feelings of love, but in many cases women misunderstand it feeling it as a love sign. In DQ8 when the hero/player tries to help and save Medea from the curse (and even from Charmles) it wouldn't necessarily mean that he falls in love with the Princess. Wanting to protect someone is different from falling in love. So what Charmles does to Medea is simply making the player want to protect her from that arrogant brat. By contrast what Angelo's doing to Jessica is the thing that arouses the player's feeling of love for her.

I'd say this was a good idea (and an interesting alternate twist), though I personally think it could have been executed better so it doesn't just seem like a sudden thing. We obviously see how hurt the Hero is when he leaves the kings. Wouldn't it have been a more powerful scene for Jessica to confront the Hero during one of his most vulnerable moments when he came back to the Inn, making the pairing much more believable when we see that she'd truly take his feelings into full account and try to lift his spirit? I mean, those words struck the dude real deep just from his expressions, and it took until after all the drama went down for him to be happy again. They had plenty of time for another scene, and even Angelo implied the Hero was down in the dumps when he got back. I mean, even if someone is playing the game for the first time and didn't start from the original PS2 version, I think "this other woman" couldn't be anyone else but Jessica, so kind of making it a mystery didn't seem too necessary. The new scene we got at Alexandria didn't exactly give any stronger clues Jess had feelings for Hero, but considering Hero's the only one she takes a sweet tone with when they're alone in the story, who else could it be? XD Surprising both the Hero and Jessica with the sudden wedding still could have happened, though. I was just expecting a strong heart-to-heart scene between the two before the actual marriage happened. I'm not denying the pairing or anything (they actually look great together).

And Bangerz and Mash are the best men. That is so adorable.

I love this so much. I played on PS2, beat this game so many times..and to see this years later..it's heartwarming.

Y'know, I think that Dragon Quest 8 is my favorite RPG in terms of gameplay experience. Multiple endings, character costumes, an extended endgame that literally could be it's own game, amazing plot twists... I miss it. :(

More so than who the Hero marries, King Clavius going in on the Hero was harsh. Clavius knows his Charmles cheated his way through the initiation. He was supposed to go alone but he needed guards. Then he needed guards to fight a fight that by royal tradition should be his. And then he purchased an Argon Heart, and lied straight to his father's face. If anything his claim to the throne should be null and void.

I never knew about this! Now i gotta play the 3DS version.

While Princess Medea was meant to be with Eight, the whole "childhood friends always win" thing doesn't really come into play all that well. For those justifying that Jessica doesn't belong with Eight, Medea was in horse form for THE ENTIRE GAME, making it so we didn't really learn much about her or her personality until after Rhapthorne's defeat. On the other hand, we learn a LOT about Jessica: why she's traveling with you, why she acts the way she does and even what her insecurities are. I can almost guarantee that most of the males that played VIII as children had a wee crush on Jessica at some point in time (my brother included) so this caters to the Jessica fans as well. This ending fits just as well as the original PS2 version, if not better.

One thing that annoyed me is that neither medea nor trode even try to stick up for the hero and have him attend the wedding. Who was a royal guard and personal protector

the dumb censorship issues aside, the biggest misstep the 3ds version made was not keeping the orchestrated soundtrack.

Marrying Jessica has to be the best ending for this game. Medea is fine, but we never exactly get to see much of her personality, considering she plays the role of a horse. Jessica accompanies you all the way through and you grow to like her more and more. And as a bonus, seeing Charmless get what he deserves always puts a smile on your face.

Someone needs to write a fan fiction about this pairing and post on FanFiction.Net soon. In fact there ought to be several stories about the hero and Jessica.

As much as I like this alternate ending, it got to me how Clavius went off the rails at the Hero for his answers in this ending. I get that there are parents to marry a good person, but even then I think that he should be well aware of not only how childish Charmles really is, especially during the events of the initiation. But knowing how close the Hero is with Medea, on top of knowing the truth behind initiation where Charmles isn't going to learn without tough love. Something where Medea would have paid the price if the marriage wasn't stopped.

I can't say I like the dialogue choice but I approve of the ship itself. Hubby doesn't feel like something she'd say, it really doesn't, she seems too posh for that but maybe that's just me.

I like Jessica. She really grows on you seeing as you’re interacting with her the whole game much more than horse Medea. The added option to marry her is cool and a nice throwback to older DQ titles by having multiple love interests. But even so, the way this is written over the true PS2 ending seems kinda forced. There’s no point in presenting the Argon ring to the king and proving the hero’s lineage if the hero loves Jessica. Though I can’t say I can figure out a way to have Hero/Jessica together and also stop the Medea/Charmless wedding in one fell swoop. I still 100% ship Hero/Medea over Hero/Jessica.

Mixed ending, bar Clavus's conversation in the Lord High Priest's estate and I respect the Hero's choice in picking her, she's got an incredible ches...personality.

Wow...I had no idea that there was such a divide between the HeroxJessica and the HeroxMedea ships.....but I gotta comment on this. Yes. We probably only got this ending as fanservice because if I recall correctly Jessica was more of an American favorite than Medea. It was definitely a treat to get this and see it happen. As a HeroxJessica fan, this was a nice bit of dessert to get with the meal of Dragon Quest 8. That being said, as a fan of this ship, this is FAR from perfect. Through everything that the group went through, just to stop Charmless' claim and get everything done, they should have been there. I don't care what's "canon" and what's just fluff, you cannot tell me that Yangus would not be Hero's best mate in this wedding. Bangers and Mash are a nice touch, but they are not Hero's friends. They are Jessica's. The suddeness of all of this is surprising to say the least. And now, to go to the HeroxMedea shippers there.....as someone who played this on the original PS2, Medea and Hero never really "clicked" for me. I get that Hero might have had some feelings, Medea being the one who found him and saved him in all, but there are a few lines in the original that give me the mind that she never really saw him as someone other than a sibling. Hell in one of the scenes at the spring she literally says "I think of you as a brother." So it's hard to see it romantically. Not all hero's will go the extra mile that the son of Eltrio does, but that could very well be because of his own Nature from his father. Medea's story was about learning to stand on her own, been going through walkthroughs, playing the game again for a conversion to D&D 5e with this, and there's a very subtle arc with her learning that "hey, this guy who I saved is doing all of this for us. What am I going to do once we're back and I'm away from him in Argonia? I have to stand up for myself." And I get the feeling Jessica might have had something to do with that. She had the personality of someone who won't just sit back and watch but will get on the front lines and fight. She did run away from home on her terms. It probably motivated her to actually try and do something once she returned to normal. So, her letting The Hero go makes sense. It's the last thing she wants to do, but the hardest thing she NEEDS to do to start anew. To become stronger herself. She feels he's been paying her a debt with his strength, kindness and overall just "Goodness" and she feels he needs a push to be himself and move on. She's the sister that gives her brother that last push of encouragement to move out. And here I go into theory space. I'll end it there. Either way, This isn't perfect, but it's not something to bash. Let it be.

I would love to be in that position: finally meeting the woman of my dreams. I guess it is too much to hope for.

Oh man. I was shipping Angelo and Jessica together what-with their dynamic! I loved Eltrio Jr. and Medea's dynamic. But this... I wasn't expecting THIS! What a great alternate ending to one of the greatest RPGs ever. BUNDLE THESE TOGETHER AND PUT THEM ON A PS4 OR SOMETHING. NOT JUST THE DS!

Now if only there was a Yangus ending...

The only thing that could have made that scene better is if the Hero was wearing the dracovian armor from fighting the Lord of the Dracovians. But given how hard those boss battles are I can understand just wanting to get on with it.

@ 42:12 is that also another 3DS exclusive? i don't remember any flashbacks of any of the cast as kids in the OG version good times though, i remember putting in 250+ hrs. never finished seed skill farming as that became too much of a hassle. and doing the dragovian boss was annoying every time he desperate attacked jessica and i had to kaze her every turn. that boss was truly one where "this isn't even my final form" applied edit: also noticed that they kept Red's original form in the flashback @ 40:04 (panties), but she's still got that modified look elsewhere @ 36:59 (shorts)

I still believe the princess Medea ending to be better for the chemistry between the two characters. Even though it's optional, in the PS2 version I'd regularly go back to the spring just to see what she had to say. Even those moments of just standing there looking at each other, the art style was expressive enough to convey how much they truly meant to one another. I love this ending for a different reason however. I always knew of the soft spoken way Jessica had always been with the Hero and it struck me as odd when you couldn't marry her in the original. I just don't think they put enough new content in the new one to flesh it out more. I love this ending however because of the interaction between Clavius & the Hero. Princess Medea's words to you after negating her marriage, fucking heartbreaking. The way the VA made sure her voice quivered when suggesting that their lives must be separate from now only truly spoke volumes of the sadness Medea likely would have felt to know they one she truly loves, loves another. Holding back tears just to save face publicly. Harsh shit man. So I'm hoping that when the definitive version of XI drops they learn from this mistake. Marrying Gemma in the XI is a joke, you don't even get a ceremony. Ironic that the relationship is fully fleshed out between the Hero and Gemma, yet they don't give a ceremony similar to this one. I hope they don't pull similar nonsense with marriage to the other characters either.

Politically stand point of view, if Medea rules Trodain and your nephew ruling Argonia, that is best case scenario? Yangus and Red as personal body guard. After all Charmles didn't pass initiation on his own, while nephew did.

If I could find a little fault of this video it would be that Morrie isn't in the party. I know it's difficult to win at rank S, but it's possible even before beating Rapthorne at the first time. In my fisrt play, Morrie joined my party after the ending, but at the second time, I succeeded to join him before Red.

Why on earth didn't you get everything out of the castle when you first got the ultimate key?
