@Donovan Harris it's an attempt by the developers to make it easier to project yourself on the main charecter. Just like Link and every main charecter from Pokemon. They want you to feel like it's you catching pokemon, saving Zelda, or being the guv. It's arguably a less desirable concept in games with voice acting, but I appreciate the idea. Rather imagine what the Guv's like rather than him be a charecter I might hate, ya know?
@@grizzykuma5246 in the case of Dragon quest games, it really works having a silent protagonist. They're really immersive RPG's and with the ability to talk to your teammates whenever you want, you feel like a part of the party
