Dragon Quest Builders's Steam version is certainly the definitive way to play the game, even if it's a tad late to its own party. Despite its limitations, it's easy to just lose hours of your time just building your base and fostering a community with the townspeople, not to mention just gathering and building whatever your heart desires in Free Mode. Still, the odd controller mapping out of the box or perhaps the many quality-of-life things that the sequel does make me wary of whether to recommend it as a purchase at full price.

I bought this game for my Switch years ago. Got addicted for hours then sold it when DQB2 was released. Months later, I missed the game and rebought it. I am not a fan of Minecraft, but the cutesy of the art style of this game wins my heart. I still have this game on my Switch, but my old Switch is having a kind of "black screen' problem, so I definitely will buy this game again for the 3rd time, for my SteamDeck.

Right there with you - there's just something super charming to this series and the first game in particular. I think the sequel is arguably better in most regards that matter, but these titles are different enough that it's really difficult to pick a favourite for me.

@@HansAlRachid true, I see this game will be always in whatever console I have. It just feel and hits different. No other game can be compared to. The artstyle, the freedom feel, the cuteness, the charming keep me coming back to it. I don't play it every single day, but I can see myself will keep this series all my whole life the same as Stardew Valley and Story of Season series

Got this game in 2017, was a blast and i fell in love with it. The lore is great, the tragic twists, the amount of creativity at your disposal. This game was my first platinum trophy for PS4, and i was so proud to complete the game and the ending still makes me shed a tear to this day ❤

You should compare the original version to this new. You cannot run, your equipment had durability, the 1st person view was upgrade like dqb2, so you can easier put blocks away from you, all the storage was increased in the Steam version. They add also the same feature from dqb2 to smash a larger square of block at once. No more different pocket between item and equipment. This version is more convenient

I was a little late playing it but still did so on the Vita. Glad others also enjoyed the Vita, feels rare finding others that played it when games were still coming out for it.

After playing this game for myself it's less Minecraft meets Dragon Quest, even though it definitely looks like that at first glance, but more Dark Cloud meets Dragon Quest with some Minecraft mechanics. This whole game's progression is inviting/rescuing villagers who gives you side quests to improve your town and become stronger; that's the exact gameplay loop of Dark Cloud. This allows you to be more creative though because you can place everything block by block, literally, to make your village more special and personalized.

Had a blast with this game years ago. But after already owning it on 3 different consoles i think I will skip this release. Its a great pick up for people new to the series.

I just can’t get over the slight issues this first game has, having to start over every chapter, taking damage if you get close to an enemy when they aren’t attacking, villagers not helping defend and just leaving the village in disarray after being destroyed in the boss fight The sequel fixes all these issues and I just don’t see the point in replaying this first game

Recently picked this one up on steam. I played the original years ago and was looking forward to trying it again, but the controls did not seem to work with my setup. I looked for solutions, but all I came up with was that this version I have seems to be a port of the mobile version, and there didn’t seem to be any way to get around it. It’s frustrating because it labels my default confirm button as cancel and vice versa.

Yo, my mouse cursor disappear for no reason, it was working when I was playing chapter 1, but when I load in chapter 2 it disappears. How can I bring back the cursor?

No multiplayer is a plus for me. Yes, everything is more fun with friends, but that doesn’t mean that all games have to have co-op.

I play dqb2 in the inside camera view,i tried the original game a few years back on switch and sadly i hated it because i hate the outside camera view Does anyone know if the steam game has an inside fps view ?

Did you really play the game? You show footage of only the first 2-3 hours of the game, get the villain's name wrong, don't compare it at all to any other version of the game. Your complaints feel like they were read off a forum post from a couple years ago, with nothing showing that you got to the second chapter or anything.
