A look at some of the spells the sorcerer vocation has access to. Many big bada booms! PC version is getting released to Steam in January, and you can get some more info about the release here: store.steampowe...
@@xxfalcoonxx dragons dogma was made in 2013, and elden ring exceeds it in many ways, but this game clearly did magic better than most games other than souls, elden ring even has a meteorite spell just like the one in this game, honed bolt is Levin, ice spells are different than elden rings, except frazil which is like freezing mist and Zamor ice storm. Maelstrom is it's own thing, seism is like a beast incantation except it's a whole earthquake, although the former has a few more options. Spells in dragons dogma are less about utility and more about desimating anything in your path if your given the proper opening. Elden ring is an improvement, but dragons dogma is it's own unique experience when it comes to magic. I love both, I'd not put one over the other really. *SPOILER WARNING FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT PLAYED DRAGONS DOGMA!!!!!* Dragons dogma has flaws but the game has so much going for it, that i don't really care you have to run in the open world with a stamina bar, and that quest system is kind of a missed opportunity in the first parts of the game, but exploring all the games content, hidden areas, the actually good quests that aren't just escort missions, and after you beat the dragon, the entire open world is completely changed and becomes an actual nightmare filled with new enemies, and every area is changed or has new mini bosses placed where they weren't before, including the hidden areas. It becomes a new experience, then there's the everfall which is a roguelike dungeon, although not perfect it has a lot of stuff to explore, and then bitter black isle which is basically like a second half of the game which you can beat, go back to the start and explore it again and have new content and the final dlc boss having a secret, which i won't spoil. Sorry for the rant. I hope i wasn't rude. I just want to say they both have their own strengths which i love, and dragons dogma shouldn't be slept on and seen as an inferior game. I'm not implying you think that, some people might come to that conclusion because elden ring is more popular.
@@smolchild1057 Fr, The magic in this game is different, u generally feel Godly being a mage. The world design, the exploration, missions, customisation everything was so good. Although Elden ring is the better game they are quite similar but different in its own way & if capcom was to make a DD2 & they were to stick with this formula whilst improving on it, i could defo see people talking about it like with Elden ring.
+Adrenaline PvP It reminds me so much of old JRPG stuff where the mage has to sit in the back, charging their spells while the rest cover them. Recent games have made magic so boring, no different than archers.
+AuthorityCat Yeah I know. I'm looking at you Dragon Age Inq. The insta casting feels so game-y and retarded, like they're not even casting spells anymore.
+Quinn Pulohanan Yeah, these days a lot of RPG's make magic no different than something like a shooter class.....Just fire different collored lasers and projectiles, it's kinda boring. I love how DD has variety in terms of what spells do, plus i love the sense of scale and power the animations have as well, wich games like dragon age or skyrim lack.
One of the great things about being a sorcerer and having another sorcerer pawn in your party, is that you can cast the same spell at the same time. If you're casting one of the heavy-hitters, like Maelstrom (The big tornado), your sorcerer pawn can actually join in the casting and you'll both unleash the spell at the same time. It works the other way as well, if you see a pawn casting a spell, start casting the same one and you'll begin the casting process in sync with the pawn. It's very effective at taking out bosses, or some of the tougher enemies in Bitterblack Isle. The party as a whole is more fragile, particularly in close quarters fights, but in some situations it's definitely worth it.
It makes even the most fragile and low level Sorcerer pawns absolutely helpful because they can help negate draw times with normal named spells rather than high ones, making you repeat them one by one like some artillery strikes.
Just started playing this game for the first time in 2020. Fuck, I can’t think of a game that even still does magic anywhere near as cool as this. Playing a Sorc makes you feel like a god. And you earn your stripes starting off with nothing but little fireballs until you start to get XP. Then... well then you just start breaking the game, and it’s glorious.
Baldurs Gate, but it's a cRPG and all. You can do some pretty crazy stuff though like transforming a powerful world eating dragon into a squirrel and then crushing him like the little rodent he is.
I am still pissed about the fact that Skyrim stole the spotlight to this amazing game. Not gonna happen a second time though. Dragon's Dogma 2 is going to rock the world like a sync cast High Maelstrom would.
+Filsoh There's a ton of replayability. On the PS3 I've played through newgame+ about 3 times now. The expansion, Dark Arisen, adds a huge dungeon that can also be played through multiple times. The combat's extremely satisfying, which keeps the game from getting dull. The endgame content unfortunately basically consists of trying to get the best gear, but thankfully it's not easy and can take a while. I end up going back to the game fairly often just because it's fun to play, more than any goal. Swapping classes is a lot of fun as well, and each one has abilites you can unlock called augments which, once unlocked, can be used while playing any of the classes, so it's worth it to go through and at least try all of the classes. The same can be said of your main pawn that you create. The game isn't flawless, but the mechanics and what the game does right far, far outweighs the flaws of the game, IMO.
+Gorreci Couldn't have said better, the game has obvious flaws, but the combat and class variety is absolutely incredible. I'd add that a single playthrough might take you around 20 to 30 hour if you're the type who'd rather just play the game once and be done with it, but I'd argue that the meat of game is to play through it multiple times with different class variations.
That's what I like about it. It's dark fantasy, it's supposed to be dark-ish. The story isn't amazing like some other games, but IMO it's good enough. Everybody likes different things, of course, but there's my opinion.
Based on the games I've played, I don't think any other game has been able to replicate how stupidly powerful and satisfying the spells are in Dragon's Dogma.
Now that is how magic is supposed to look like, that one with the electric whip thats so fucking cool its insane, the visual effects, the sounds, its perfect! wish more games would have that type of magic
I really wanted spells like "animate dead". Would have made it so much better for me. But thanks to those spells alone this game became one of the most memorable to me.
so im playing DDDA right now with a sorcerer class... i was comparing the spells here with others games like skyrim, kingdoms of amalur, diablo 3, and grim dawn. ok grim dawn and d3 are arpg and the spells do look tiny. but compared to skyrim and KoA, the spells here are super kickass awesomeeeee. especially the twister and incantation. i really hope they make a ddda with more in depth skills and a change with the whole vocation rank and leveling. its not fun when you want to min max and have to play some1 you dnt wana play with. all in all, ddda is a gem of a game. props to capcom
Sir u know that skyrim has more spells if u just u know look beyond the normal spells? Like the master spells and the.dragonshouts there's even a tornado dragon shout and if ur worried about spells not staying up long enough lvl up ur magic or use skills and enhancements that lower ur magic cost to zero then infinite spells
Well, the difference is that a Mage is a healing-magicka class while Sorcerer is the “everyone’s bloody well fucked” if they so much as breathe from a distance. A mage is terrible at even destroying a boss, let alone a city, whereas you pray to god you don’t fight a Sorcerer else they summon a hurricane on your ass and you’ll be sucked in and be done for before you could react.
Just watched the netflix series and came directly here! They seriously missed a trick not showing how powerful sorcery can be especially when they could of shown that tornado spell.
The netflix series missed everything. I don't know what's the problem with these guys but they always think they can make the work of someone else "better" and in the end it become far worse. The changes they did to the lore are terrible.
Is there a secret to casting magic or something? I'm trying to and it'll start casting it and i'll have it ready but it won't actually attack anything.
I played both Elden Ring and Dark Arisen quite deeply, but would Dragon's Dogma, which is faithful to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, match the flashy magic that strays from the path of classic RPGs?
Dude, I have to ask. What are you render settings for this video? I can record at 1080p60. Just having a hard time finding the correct settings in Sony Vegas.
Only game I have bought twice (PC and PlayStation) will probably buy it on the switch just because. This the standard I judge magic in all other games by.
I come from watcing the new Howards Legacy trailer/gameplay and it looks so lame compared to this, like they just made a hack & slash lite gameplay. I need to play Dragon's Dogma.
Yeah, I need more than just Levin in Hogwarts Legacy. It’s just wizard splash in Hogwarts compared to wizard boom in Dragon’s Dogma. Other than that, even just ONE of these Grand Spells (Bolide, Maelstrom, Gicel, Fulmination and Seism) in Hogwarts would’ve been a wizard sendoff. But man…strange how nobody displays just how powerful a magician can be except for Japanese developers apparently.
so are there any new spells in Dark Arisen? i never got into that remake so i have no idea and i already tried looking for a video but i cant find one. this makes me confused as a quick look at a wiki says the version update added a but ton of new skills and then there is your combat montage video where a combined spell occurred. something i dont recall in the original.
+ArcRay20 As far as I know, Dark Arisen added no new spells but added an upgraded version of almost all spells (you can find rings unlocking access to the better spell version).
Is it possible to use all the spells, but without a staff? I would like to wild a sword and being able to use these cool spells at the same time. Like that electro whip in one hand, and a sword in the other, that would be sick.
+TruelyAwesome I am, i like spellcasting classes, but i don't like ising staves and similar. I wanna use swords and shit....Like if i play Dragon Age, i always get the Arcane Warrior spec, or in Skyrim a mix of magic and swordfighting. Is there a hybrid class in DD, similar to that? I don't wanna be a full on mage with robes and staffs....But i still want to use magic.
@@markostamenkovic8350 Mysic knight uses a shield and mace, but their spells are not as amazing. Magic Archer on other hand has very powerful spells and they use a magic bow. One problem though is that you get different stats by leveling as differenct classes, so if you want the best magic archer you need to level up as a sorcerer since they get the most magic. You can fix this on pc with a mod that gives the same level up stats to all classes.
Is the online/pawn-shop up yet? I was kind of wondering how they're going to deal with the Steam-version and the pawn-system and none of the early-copies show pawn-sharing. I hope I can still share my pawn with a friend on Steam for free.
+Thybell Mothbreeder Cost as in in-game credits when using a pawn higher than your level. I want to know whether or-not Dragon's Dogma has Steam integration so that it can automatically detect what friends have the game. Originally if you were say level 10 and wanted to use a pawn that was higher leveled you would have to spend credits known as Rift Crystals to use them; if they were in your friends' list you could obtain their higher leveled pawn for free.
+silenceyouidiot ah I see what you mean. Yeah hopefully it detects your friends and let em use it for free... I'm just hoping people can do great mods on here
+GBurny Assuming the game still uses MT Framework, I would think you could look at the other games using that engine to get an idea of what types of mods we'll see.
Do the spells only have that set hit zone right in front of you as showed in this video? That one fire spell and the tornado had a reticle for aiming which seems great but if most spells only hit that close to you with such windup time might deter me from trying sorcerer.
Sorcerers are very weak and fragile in close combat, but they do crazy damage. In the game you play as a party, meaning you can have 4 ppl including yourself. So if you are playing a sorcerer you want atleast 1 guy that can tank and take aggro while you destroy the enemies with your long cast time spells. If you have other sorcerers in your party you can also sync your spells with theirs, meaning that if they start casting a spell, you can start casting the same spell and you will both finish at the same time even if you started casting at the end of the spell. This will deal massive damage when you have x2 or x3 times the meteors or tornadoes. If you like solo play, i think the assassin(archer/ninja) is the best class for that since they get massive bonuses to damage while alone. You could still do it with any class but the game would be way harder and annoying. All the classes are fun, and they all have their perks. But you should read up online a bit about them if you want to optimize them since you get different stats by leveling as different classes.
I think OP meant the spiraling ice spell that pierces things, no, you cannot interact as it will eventually break in a short time and fades through, the name of that spell is Gicel. The one where you can jump on is Frigor.
